Eleanor Manor.
Melody entered the living room and said to Robin on the balcony, “Everything’s settled, Mr. Bailey.”
As a professional representative, she knew what she could ask and couldn’t. It was her job, so she must be cautious and work hard.
Right then, Jeff entered the house while holding a file to Robin. “Mr. Bailey, I found the details. The closest families to the Meyer family are the Brighton, the Conwyn, and the Wraith families. They invaded and occupied Lands Corporation, which had a market value of over a billion dollars back then and rapidly developed. Now, they are the top three influential families in Stillwater.”
“I also found the three families were secretly supported by an organization. Unlike other families, they hired many extraordinary people,” Jeff added.
Melody was shocked again. She majored in business and used to see Jeff’s photos, so she naturally recognized he was the Robin-Sophia Group’s president.
However, in Robin’s presence, Jeff talked to him politely. Melody couldn’t help wondering how shocking Robin’s real identity was. Moreover, they were talking about the most influential families in town.
Melody had never imagined such a topic before.
“The top three influential families in Stillwater?”
Robin looked interested.
Suddenly, Melody’s phone rang. After answering the call, she said, “Excuse me, Mr. Bailey. The call was from the Brighton family. Their hostess wants to invite you to their house for a talk.”
“That’s good. I’d love to see one of the top three influential families,” Robin agreed.
He picked up the mask and left with Melody. Melody drove the car, and Robin sat in the backseat while reading the Brighton family’s information.
“Their hostess is a vicious woman indeed.”
Robin smiled while going through the file.
The Brighten family wasn’t wealthy before but small and ordinary. When Constance Brighton, their oldest daughter, was in college, she got along with an influential family–the Montgomery family. Later, she married their son.
However, three years later, the Montgomery family went bankrupt. The Brighton family took the chance and developed fast upon the Montgomery family’s resources. Then they invaded and occupied Lands Corporation and gained more profits.
Until now, the Brighton family had become a top one in Stillwater.
Constance was the family’s hostess.
Nine years after she graduated from college, she became the most legendary businesswoman in town. Robin didn’t think she was simple.
“No matter how vicious, talented, or scheming you are in business, you shouldn’t have tried to hurt my wife and daughter. Besides, I’m indeed curious about the so-called secret Marcus Meyer mentioned,” Robin muttered, staring at the file.
Shortly after, the car was pulled over.
“We’ve arrived, Mr. Bailey.”
Melody got down from the car and opened the rear door for him. She wore a man’s suit and white gloves. Unlike a fresh graduate, she looked like an experienced manager.
Robin exited the car and scanned the surroundings. They were in front of a villa area, and the word “Brighton” was evident on the logo.
“Let’s go.”
Robin entered the yard, followed by Melody.
A woman wearing a cheongsam walked to them. Lowering her head, she asked, “Good day, mister. Are you Mr. X?”
However, she had roughly figured out the answer. From afar, she noticed the man’s appearance. Like the rumors said, he wore a half-monster mask, tall and sturdy. Each step he took was full of a unique aura, making him look mysterious.
Instantly, the woman fell for Mr. X’s charm.
“Ehn,” Robin answered indifferently.
“Please follow me. Ms. Brighton is waiting for you.”
The woman showed Robin the way, leading him to a pond, which was delicately decorated with lotuses and water lilies. Many animals were kept, including a white crane. The scene was peaceful.
“How do you like my pond, Mr. X?” a soft, pleasant voice sounded from the steps beside the pond.
Robin tilted his head to look in that direction. It was a wooden pavilion with beautifully sculpted reliefs. In the center was sitting a woman with coiled-up hair. She wore a loose traditional robe.
Her features were delicate–eyes with slightly raised ends, gentle eyebrows, and juicy lips. It was an enchanting woman with an innocent look.
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Brighton. I didn’t expect the hostess of the Brighton family to be like a gentle, attractive college student. Many men must have fallen for you,” Robin said bluntly.
Constance was a charming woman, for real.
“Mr. X, have you?”
Constance beamed at him. She picked up a teapot, made tea slowly, and poured it into a teacup. “Mr. X, I have practiced teaism for many years. Please have a try.”
Robin sat down and took a sip. “It’s good tea. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about it.”
Then he put down the teacup and added, “Ms. Brighton, as for your question, my answer is–I’m married with a daughter.”
He implied that he had a family and wouldn’t spare a glance at another woman.
“Mr. X, you are indeed a decent man. You are influential and outstanding, but you are loyal to your wife. Only a few men could be like this.”
Pointing at her pond, Constance added gently, “Mr. X, you haven’t told me how you like my pond. Does it match your preference?”
“Ms. Brighton, I’m afraid you don’t want me to appreciate your pond. There are many animals, but only one white crane is raised. The implication is too evident. Ms. Brighton, you mean you are like the white crane. You are an elegant and peaceful woman, but the whole Stillwater is under your control.”
Robin gazed at Constance, well understanding her aims.
Constance also realized Robin wasn’t as simple as she had imagined.
She asked Robin about the pond. If Robin only complimented it, it only meant he was stupid and incompetent. Then Constance wouldn’t be worried about him.
However, Robin understood her implications, which interested Constance.
“Mr. X, you are indeed extraordinary.”
Constance picked up her teacup, covered it with her big sleeve, and took a sip. Narrowing her gaze, she drawled, “Mr. X, you are wise and sensible. Why can’t you tell the complexity in Stillwater? I’m afraid you cannot meddle in so willfully.”
Her tone was soft, but her words were full of aggressiveness and threat.
“That doesn’t bother me. Instead, you guys should consider if I’ll want you to survive. I have the final say to decide your endings.”
Robin didn’t change his tone, but his words startled Constance. She didn’t expect him to be so arrogant. However, the next second, she returned to calm and narrowed her gaze at him. “Mr. X, don’t you think you are too arrogant?”
