Robin, on the other end of the line, was standing on the balcony of his villa in Eleanor Manor. The bright moonlight fell on his face curving a sharp outline.
The night breeze disheveled the hemline of his suit jacket.
“Honey, give me seven days. I’ll clear all the obstacles for you.”
Robin put on the mask again. ‘With the mask, I’m Mr. X, and I am Primus. After taking it off, I’m your husband who loves you the most.’
…
The following day, most people in Stillwater heard the Meyer Group had gone bankrupt.
Elise went to work in Landview Inc. in the early morning. She wore a suit dress that well showed her curved shape. Although she was eye-catching, no one dared to approach such an aloof woman.
She was known as the most aloof businesswoman in town.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Elise saw Miranda’s caller ID and swiped to answer, “Hello, Miranda. What’s the matter?”
“Elise, do you know Mr. X has done something last night? He destroyed the Meyer family, the evil one that has committed a lot of crimes. The Meyer family has harmed a lot of people and made much trouble just because it has a strong backer.”
“Mr. X is awesome. He destroyed the family without hesitation. From now on, Mr. X is my idol. I’m his fangirl now,” Miranda said excitedly.
“The Meyer family is destroyed?”
Elise was taken aback. In the morning, she was busy with the merger ceremony of Lands Corporation and Landview Inc. Therefore, she didn’t hear the news earlier.
As the PR department director, Miranda had news sources, so she always keep Elise updated.
“Right. Mr. X is my idol now. Don’t you think his nickname also shows he’s someone competent?” Miranda praised Mr. X wholeheartedly.
Elise was tongue-tied for a moment and asked helplessly, “How many idols do you have now?”
“Let me see. A piano man, the chairman of the board of my company, the mysterious wealthy man who bought the villa and won against Elliott Nicholson, and Mr. X. I’m sure he’s a handsome man.”
“What if he was ugly?”
“Impossible! My sixth sense works well. Somehow, I felt like I’d met him before.”
Miranda couldn’t tell why but added, “It might be a wrong hunch. Or I’m so eager to meet him, probably. By the way, when did you meet Mr. X? He invested 200 million dollars in your company. You are indeed lucky, Ms. Houry.”
“I have no idea,” Elise answered.
She didn’t lie. Before the previous night, she had never heard of Mr. X. She also had never met him before. Besides, she’d rather give up on the 200 million dollars. In her opinion, Robin left after the accident due to the money.
An unknown man gave her 200 million dollars without any reason. As her husband, Robin must have been stimulated.
That was why he would stay out for seven days.
Elise was afraid that Robin would do something illegal to gather the 400, 000 dollars.
“TSK. TSK. TSK.”
Miranda clicked her tongue in jest. She wanted to mock Robin but suddenly recalled the bank card at her door the other night, so she bit back the words that sprung to her lips. “If you don’t want the money, give it to me. I’m your bestie, not bad-looking, with a good body figure. I’m also the PR department director of the Robin-Sophia Group. Unfortunately, I don’t have a boyfriend.”
“You are too picky.” Elise rolled her eyes.
“I’ve never been picky. I’ll accept Mr. X, the piano man, or our chairman of the board. I’ve never met them in person, though,” Miranda said in a hidden complaint.
In her opinion, those were all excellent men, but she had no chance to meet them.
Miranda was strict with herself, unwilling to accept a man like Robin as Elise had done. She wanted to encounter her dream lover, Mr. X.
After exchanging a few words with Elise, she ended the call.
“She didn’t remark on Robin this time. Weird…” Elise mumbled. Usually, Miranda always brainwashed her and told her Robin was just a security guard and didn’t deserve her.
Elise had been used to it but always ignored her.
Much to her surprise, Miranda didn’t do the cliche today.
“Priya?” Elise called to the door.
“Yes, Ms. Houry?”
Priya entered the office. She was short in a uniform, looking spirited and obediently. However, all employees knew she was competent at work.
She had been working for Elise for years and never grumbled.
After buying out Lands Corporation and Nicholson Group, Elise united them together with Landview Inc. and established a new organization. Elise was the president, and Priya became her first secretary.
“Help me contact Mr. X. I need to discuss the positions of the new company with him. He had 70% of our company shares, so he’s the owner,” Elise said.
Without the 200 million dollars from Mr. X, she would have gone bankrupt already.
However, she gained back Lands Corporation and defeated the Nicholson Group, becoming the president of a new company. However, she remembered Mr. X was the company owner.
“OK, Ms. Houry.”
Priya left.
Shortly after, she returned and said, “Excuse me, Ms. Houry. Ms. Melody house, the representative of Mr. X, told me our new company’s name can remain to be Landview Inc. He wants you to arrange for everything without interfering with your decisions.”
“He’s way too generous.”
Scratching her head, Elise was puzzled. She believed she had taken advantage of Mr. X. Besides, he let her make all the decisions. Elise had to admit that Mr. X was indeed bold.
‘Isn’t he afraid I might make his company go bankrupt?’
“Priya, who the earth is Mr. X? He’s determined and generous indeed.”Elise looked at Priya in confusion.
“Well…”
Priya suddenly recalled Robin standing at the company entrance that day. He shocked and frightened all the troublemakers. Priya wondered if Robin was Mr. X.
After a thought, she denied her guess. Mr. X sounded to be extremely powerful, but Robin wasn’t that competent. Shaking her head, she answered, “I also don’t know.”
Meanwhile, Lacy became interested in Mr. X. Once he appeared in Stillwater, he raised several uproars. Her hunch told her he must be someone extraordinary.
However, when she wanted to investigate Mr. X, she received a command. “Lacey Willis is not allowed to get involved in Mr. X’s matters.”
“Why? Why am I not allowed to do it?”
Lacey broke into her supervisor’s office while boiling up with anger.
Her supervisor darted at her and drawled, “It’s your father’s command. Mr. X is more horrible than you’ve imagined. Your father even cannot afford to offend him.”
