“I deserve to be arrogant.”
Constant was taken aback for a second and then smiled.
“Ms. Brighton, did you invite me to come over for the Meyer family? Do you want to avenge them?” asked Robin.
“Not at all.”
Constance shook her head. “The Meyer family has been destroyed, but it has nothing to do with me. Mr. X, even 100 Meyer families couldn’t be comparable to you. I invited you here to discuss Lands Corporation. Well, to the exact, Landview Inc.”
“What do you want?”
“Please withdraw your financial sponsorship.”
Icy light flashed through Robin’s eyes. He said, “Go on.”
“Mr. X, I heard you’d invested 200 million dollars into Landview Inc. Honestly speaking, for some personal reasons, I disliked this company. I can compensate you 600 million dollars if you withdraw your investment. What do you think?”
“If I hadn’t understood your implication of the pond, would I have been killed already? You wouldn’t have offered me 600 million dollars, would you?”
“Mr. X, please don’t be kidding.”
Constance lowered her head and refilled his teacup.
“Unfortunately, I’m protective of people I care about. I like Landview Inc., so I’ll never withdraw my money. Nor will I allow others to make trouble.”
“Are you sure?”
“100% sure.”
“Mr. X, do you know what you’ll face next? Stillwater is far more complicated than you’ve imagined. This is your last chance.”
Their conversation had been in a tit-for-tat phase.
Constance had put her hands under the hemline of her robe, staring at Mr. X. She didn’t think he was a fool and believed he would make a wise decision.
Unfortunately, she was wrong about Mr. X. Robin stood up and darted at the white crane, “The white crane is still alive because it has no threat now. Probably, you can put a crocodile into the pond.”
After bidding Constance farewell, Robin stood up and left, followed by Melody. Melody was solemn and calm, although shocked by the scene. Inwardly, she reminded herself to keep being professional.
No matter how shocked she was, she must remain serious.
After Robin left, a man walked into the pavilion. He was mid-aged with bears. He had big eyes as fierce as a tiger’s. “How did it go?” he asked.
“I cannot see through him.”
Constance shook her head.
The man was the Conwyn family’s master, Bradley Conwyn, nicknamed Tiger of Stillwater. He was the only businessman who started from scratch among the three families.
However, he was brutal and could use various means to achieve his goals. Countless families were destroyed, and many people were killed by him.
“I didn’t expect you to fail, you viper.”
Bradley became jaw-slacked.
Earlier, he had thought they overestimated Mr. X. Much to his surprise, they had underestimated him. Only a man in his social status could know what a tough nut to crack Constance was.
He called Constance viper, but the latter ignored him.
She took over the Brighton family upon her first husband’s death. Her family had been well developed because she had gathered sources and wealth from other ex-husbands.
She might not be morally competent, but she had the capability to be vicious and ruthless.
“Mr. X isn’t a mere fly on the wheel. He protected Lands Corporation and Elise Houry. Now we must add Elise Houry to our assassination list. However, if we killed her, Mr. X would be angered.”
Constance broke off, frowning slightly.
“I can hire someone to kill him. What do you think?” Bradley suggested.
As Tiger of Stillwater, he wasn’t weak. Instead, he fought hard for his current achievements. Rumors had it that if Bradley hadn’t become a businessman, he would have become the gang leader of the underworld.
However, even though he was a businessman, he had committed countless crimes.
“Not for the time being.”
Constance shook her head. “Mr. X has killed the oldest son of the Holland family, one of the five most influential families in Stillwater. They are powerful. If not mistaken, I believe the Holland family can kill him.”
“By the way, where is Walter?” Constance asked.
“That shrewd bastard didn’t show up today. No one knows what’s in his mind.” Bradley shook his head.
The three families planned to text Mr. X today, but Walter Wraith, the master of the Wraith family, didn’t appear.
However, Bradley didn’t look unhappy about it. Instead, a trace of fear filled his eyes.
…
After leaving the Brighton’s, Robin changed into an ordinary outfit and sneaked out, wandering the street. So far, he was still the live-in son-in-law of the Houry family, so he should show up from time to time.
If he was seen in public, no one would pay attention to him as he was known as a good-for-nothing.
In a park, he saw an old man sitting on a stool under a tree. The tree shade blocked the sunshine. In front of him was a Go board.
Beside him was a sign– “Two bucks for a round. Twenty bucks for a loss.”
“May I?” Robin drifted to him and asked.
“Of course.”
The old man was napping. He opened his eyes and darted at Robin. In his opinion, Robin was too young, so he didn’t pay attention, thinking he could make some pocket money again on this boring day.
Suddenly, a mid-aged woman passed them by. “Young man, be careful. This old man has been playing Go here for years. He has never lost.”
“Right. Orson is a professional Go player. You must be careful.”
“He likes making money from his opponent the most. Every time, he acted like he had won the game in the end, so his opponents were unconvinced and insisted on playing another round. In the end, he could make a lot of money.”
Several old men echoed the mid-aged woman. Evidently, they had been framed by the old man before.
“Guys, you’d better watch your language. I only want to make some pocket money. Besides, the game is fair. I don’t have the final say if he’ll win or lose,” the old man called Orson retorted unhappily.
Since the young man was interested, he wouldn’t let him run away. Even if he could only make two bucks, he would be satisfied.
“Young man, don’t worry. I’m not good at playing Go. I’m here to polish my skills. You’ll definitely win against me. Don’t worry. Only two bucks for a round. If you won, you’d earn 20 bucks. Isn’t it a good deal?” Orson tried to convince Robin.
“OK.”
Robin pulled out two dollars and passed the bill to him. “I’m also interested in Go.”
“Young man, you are too stubborn. You’ll never win. Anyway, we’ve stayed here for years and never seen Orson lose.”
“I agree. You said you were interested in Go. I guess you’ll go nuts later.”
The onlookers sighed, thinking the young man would step into Orson’s trap like others did. However, they were not surprised.
