“Aaron Turner, this is my last warning in the name of Kisia Fort. Release Robin Bailey. Now!” Jeff repeated.
Aaron shivered, faintly feeling a murderous aura from the other end of the line. Almost suffocated, he nodded vigorously. “Yes, sir. I will, sir.”
After ending the call, Aaron was soaking in a cold sweat, feeling as if he had returned from Hell.
He was taken aback for a moment and enlightened suddenly.
He recalled Ewan mentioning teaching Robin a lesson.
“No! Don’t do anything to that man!”
Fear filled Aaron’s eyes. Robin could let the president of the Robin-Sophia Group, the oldest son of the Buosont family, the city mayor, and a senior colonel call him.
Aaron could tell Robin’s background wasn’t THAT simple.
He realized none in his department could afford to offend Robin.
The thought made him use all his strength to stand up, heading for the basement. He inwardly prayed, “Don’t do anything. Don’t do anything. Once you hurt him, our department will be crushed by tanks.”
He believed the senior colonel meant what he said as he almost smelt the gunpowder while answering his call.
Besides, Ewan had taken the initiative to make a mistake, and they had no reason to lock up Robin.
Aaron couldn’t help praying Ewan didn’t do anything. He knew Ewan well, who was petty and violent. Aaron was afraid Robin was almost dying.
He paled. When he arrived at the door of the basement, he looked ashen. Gazing at the door, he had no guts to push it open.
He still prayed, hoping for a slight possibility.
Then Aaron pushed the door open, his gaze swept around the floor to see if Robin was lying in the blood.
After seeing no one, he breathed a sigh of relief.
When Aaron looked up, he was startled. Ewan and his two men were lying on the floor, piling up. All fainted.
A man sat on them, smoking. Seeing Aaron, he asked, “Why are you so late? They are almost dying.”
Bang!
Robin hopped off. The three men rolled to the ground. Aaron could see their faces were black and blue.
“Mister, this is a misunderstanding. Really.”
Aaron felt relieved after seeing Robin safe and sound. He wore a smile, striding towards Robin.
However, Robin gazed at him solemnly and curled his lips. “If I were an ordinary man, I would have died in this basement already.”
“Mister, this is indeed a misunderstanding. Here you go. It was our fault. We’ll never make such a mistake again. I promise.”
Aaron wrote a check, bowing at Robin.
“You won’t have another chance.”
“What do you mean?”
“The person I informed should be arriving.”
Robin checked his watch.
Suddenly, a voice sounded outside, “Stillwater Police Department! All squat down. Be cooperative. If you disobey, we’ll use compulsory means.”
“The police?”
Aaron paled again as he didn’t expect Robin to call the police, realizing Robin would press charge on them. However, Aaron was confident as he had some connections who could protect him.
However, his heart sank when he saw Lacey arrive. “Lacey Willis from Team One, Stillwater Police Department. Please be cooperative.”
Aaron almost fainted and couldn’t believe Lacey would be in charge of this case.
He knew she was a righteous policewoman and cared about nothing except resolving the case. She did everything according to the rules and regulations strictly. Therefore, Aaron could foresee his ending as soon as she appeared.
Besides, Lacey had a strong background that he couldn’t afford to offend.
However, Aaron’s ending wouldn’t be pleasant, even if it were another policeman or policewoman.
After all, he had locked up Primus of Kisia, so no one had the guts to defend or protect him unless that person was willing to be dragged into the mere.
“You again, Robin Bailey?”
Lacey was irritated while seeing Robin, who called the police again.
According to her investigation, she knew some criminal evidence would be in the basement. She also found the supervisors in the department of public works had issues. Therefore, she was supposed to feel excited after arresting the bad guys.
However, when she saw Robin, she pulled a long face.
The memory that she failed her disguises twice appeared in her mind.
Robin had defeated her twice in a row.
“Right. It’s me. I’ll leave everything to you. My wife must be worried about me.”
Robin worked the stiffness from his body before going upstairs. After leaving the department of public works, he saw Elise with a single glimpse, who was waiting for him anxiously at the entrance.
“Finally, you are out. Did those jerks do something to harm you?”
Elise trotted to him immediately. She looked him up and down, afraid he was beaten.
After Aaron sent her away, she contacted her networks all the time to rescue Robin, but nothing worked. She couldn’t find anyone. Once she received the news that a police team was sent to the department of public works, she rushed over, waiting for Robin.
“I’m fine. They dared not to do anything to me.”
Robin could tell how worried she was, warmth traveling in his chest. He rubbed Elise’s hair.
Elise rubbed against his palm first. Then she was taken aback. “Stop it! I’m not a kid anymore. You can rub Leslie’s head instead.”
“You are a baby to me, Elise,” Robin suddenly said in a doting and overbearing tone.
He meant it. For him, Elise was his baby, and he would protect her all his life.
“Gee! Stop talking nonsense!”
Elise turned around, her ears reddening.
“Let’s go home.”
Robin held her hand, heading for their house. However, Elise tugged him. “It’s time to pick up Leslie now. Don’t forget the real baby.”
“I won’t, Honey.”
“You cheeky bastard.”
Robin and Elise went to pick up Leslie together. On the way, he called Miranda. “Remember you still owe me a favor? Tell me what my wife has done today. Then we’ll be even.”
Earlier, Miranda wronged him, and Robin didn’t get even with her. However, he still remembered the favor.
He called Miranda as he knew Elise must have contacted Miranda after the incident.
“In the morning, she went to the chief of the department of public works but was kicked out. Then she begged the president of my company, and Mr. Jordan agreed to help her. However, it didn’t work. Then she went to David and her grandfather, almost kneeling to them. She knew they had set you up.”
“She was even willing to return the 10% of the company shares. Fortunately, you were set up fast.”
“Honestly speaking, I wouldn’t tell you those things if it weren’t for the favor. I’m jealous. My bestie seems to have fallen in love with you gradually. I still don’t think you deserve her,” Miranda added after a short silence.
