Aaron checked the caller ID, only to find an unsaved number. However, he swiped to answer, “Hello. Who is that, please?”
“Hello, is that Mr. Aaron Turner? This is Jim Jordan, the president of the Robin-Sophia Group. I heard your department has arrested a young man named Robin Bailey,” Jim spoke.
Once he received the news about Robin, he immediately made the call. Robin was his boss, so he spoke in a threatening tone.
“Robin Bailey?”
Aaron frowned as he didn’t expect Jim to call him for Robin.
Robin was only a security guard, but the president of the Robin-Sophia Group called because of him. Aaron was confused, wondering if the Robin-Sophia Group was THAT united and caring.
‘What the heck?’
However, as the department chief, he had experienced ups and downs. Aaron thought himself someone influential, and the Robin-Sophia Group was new in town, so he wasn’t afraid.
After a silence, he answered, “Mr. Jordan, we did it according to our procedure.”
Then he ended the call.
Although Jim was from the capital, Aaron wasn’t afraid, thinking Stillwater was his territory.
“Shit!”
Jim was sullen when Aaron hung up on him. He cursed, “Aaron Turner, you have a death wish. I’m trying to help you.”
Unfortunately, Aaron didn’t realize who he had provoked.
The person could make Stillwater vanish with a single word.
However, Jim couldn’t do anything. He was just a business tycoon, so he couldn’t influence government officials. Therefore he called Jeff.
Meanwhile, Aaron put away his phone and continued to study the vase.
Curling his lips, he remarked, “Just a businessman. How dare he threaten me.”
Aaron didn’t get involved in business, so he didn’t think Jim was important.
However, his phone rang again. Frowning, Aaron swiped to answer, “Hello. Who is that?”
He was annoyed, so his voice was loud.
A voice sounded on the other end of the line, “Mr. Turner, it’s me. I haven’t seen you for a few days. You seem to become short-tempered. You do have the guts to shout at me, huh?”
Aaron recognized it was Timothy, his face pale.
Timothy was the oldest son of the Buosont family and its heir.
Unlike the Buosont Group, the Robin-Sophia Group was a business organization. However, the Buosont family had developed businesses and connections from all walks of life. It was influential in Stillwater, in both politics and the underworld.
It was like a royal family in Stillwater.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Buosont. I was in a bad mood. What can I do for you?” Aaron softened his tone and asked respectfully.
He knew Timothy must have called him for something. After helping Timothy, their relationship would improve.
“Well, I heard your department had arrested a man named Robin Bailey. Hurry and set him free. How dare you capture Mr. Bailey!” Timothy requested aggressively.
He had taken Robin as his backer after knowing his background.
Robin was a national hero who protected Kisia. As a soldier, he looked upon the disciplines remarkably. Besides, he was a general. Timothy didn’t think he had made any mistakes.
“Uh…”
Aaron didn’t expect Timothy to call him for Robin as well.
Earlier, the president of the Robin-Sophia Group called. He wondered why Timothy also did so. After all, Timothy was from the Buosont family.
How could he make a call for a security guard?
Aaron was puzzled.
“Heard my request, Aaron Turner?” Timothy asked.
“OK, Mr. Buosont,” Aaron had to agree.
After hanging up, he lay back on the chair without doing anything. He had agreed to release Robin but didn’t tell Timothy when.
He could lock Robin up for five or six days before setting him free, which wasn’t against Timothy’s request.
Moreover, Timothy was just the heir of the Buosont family instead of the master. Aaron didn’t think he needed to fear Timothy, a young man.
“Robin Bailey has such two backers. Humph!” Aaron snorted in disdain.
He guessed those two men must have owed Robin favors. However, Aaron was unwilling to release him immediately. He still wanted to keep the dignity of a department chief.
Suddenly, he received another call.
“Why are so many people calling me today?”
Aaron swiped to answer, “Hello? Who’s that?”
“Jaiden Wilson, Stillwater,” a solemn voice sounded on the phone.
Aaron was so shocked that he almost dropped his phone. The person on the phone was the city major of Stillwater, superior to many people, including Aaron.
He didn’t expect Jaiden to call him, wondering if the call was also for Robin.
A bad hunch rose in Aron’s mind.
“Aaron Turner, I heard the department of public works arrested a man. How dare you! When did your department have the right to arrest civilians like the police? You are indeed powerful, aren’t you?” Jaiden snapped.
Aaron was freaked out and collapsed to the ground. Cold sweat oozed from his face. He hurriedly explained, “It’s a misunderstanding. My subordinate has made a mistake. I’ll release him immediately, Mr. Wilson.”
“The sooner, the better,” Jaiden prompted.
He had met Robin personally in the orphanage last time, so he knew Robin’s background. No one in Stillwater could afford to offend him.
“Sure. Sure,” Aaron agreed, nodding vigorously.
After the call ended, he wiped the sweat off his forehead. “What the heck? He’s just a security guard. How come the Robin-Sophia Group’s president, the Buosont family’s oldest son, and Stillwater’s city mayor called?”
Aaron was baffled.
As far as he knew, Robin was once a beggar and worked as a security guard.
When he was about to release Robin, he received another call. Aaron swallowed hard, hesitant to answer it.
However, a moment later, he still swiped to answer.
“Attention. This is Jeff Reczek, a senior colonel of Kisia Fort. According to the news I received, you’ve arrested a man named Robin Bailey for no reason. Please release him immediately. Or I’ll lead my troops to attack the department of public words.” Jeff’s words were full of the gunpowder smell.
He was still training the new recruits in the fort. If Aaron was unwilling to release Robin, he wouldn’t mind leading his soldiers to attack the department.
Aaron was dumbfounded.
He gaped while trembling. “What’s going on? The military… A senior colonel… They’re attacking my department soon. Shit! Who is Robin Bailey?”
