Robin smiled.
Ewan’s words amused him. He wondered if Ewan knew what he was confronting–Primus of Kisia, the most powerful man leading over 100, 000 soldiers, who used to kill 300, 000 enemies in a battle.
“Mind your attitude. Think you are looking at a nonentity?”
Ewan noticed Robin’s gaze. Seemingly, Robin looked down on him, which annoyed him immediately.
As the director of the department of public works in Stillwater, Ewan had significant power. No ordinary man dared to offend him. He was in the upper class of Stillwater. Therefore, Robin’s scornful gaze angered him.
In his opinion, Robin was just a beggar who should be respectful to him. In that case, Ewan wouldn’t mind giving him a chance.
“You are right,” Robin answered bluntly without hiding it.
He was indeed looking at a nonentity. j
“Tie him up!” Ewan ordered.
The two men behind him stood up. They worked for Ewan long, taking every order from him.
One pulled out handcuffs from his pocket, manacled Robin to the chair, and locked it.
Robin raised his hand, and the handcuffs thudded. He chuckled, “You can’t trap me with this thing. Handcuffs should belong to the police department. How can you use them?”
Kisia was strict in managing the tools and weapons used by the police.
“Belong to the police department? Of course, we dare not to use them in public. Look where you are. This is a basement under our building. My territory.”
Ewan snorted in disdain. He threw up his hands and pointed at this room. “By the way, this is a sealed room with excellent soundproofing. No one will discover it. It’s my exclusive territory. Believe it or not? If I killed you here today, no one would find it.”
He wanted to scare Robin but dared to kill him.
Ewan had decided to lock up Robin for half a month and let him suffer from hunger. They could also beat him up.
“Really?”
A murderous look flashed through Robin’s eyes.
With a loud bang, Robin stood up. The handcuffs were broken. He tore them off his wrist and twisted his neck to work the stiffness. “So, if I killed you, no one would find it, right?”
“Shit!” The three men gaped, wondering what was happening.
Robin forcibly broke free from the handcuffs. They realized he was too powerful.
“Uh… Mister, we can have a talk. It’s a misunderstanding. Really.”
Seeing Robin striding to him, Ewan panicked and jumped to his feet, flinching.
“A misunderstanding? I don’t think so.”
Robin walked to him step by step.
“Shit! You guys. Hit him. He’s alone. Hurry!” Ewan hinted at his men with a ferocious look.
“Right. He’s alone.”
The two men exchanged a glance and were about to stop Robin.
They believed Robin couldn’t win against them if they attacked him simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Elise rushed to the department of public works. However, she asked many employees in the department but failed to find Ewan. Most of them didn’t know the sealed room in the basement.
Therefore, Elise had to talk to the chief of the department of public works, Aaron Turner.
An office on the third floor.
“Mr. Turner, my husband has been taken here and locked up. We were framed. Please release him.”
Elise looked at Aaron anxiously.
Aaron was in his fifties with half-gray hair. However, he looked shrew. He sat in his chair in a white shirt, knocking on the desk with a pen.
“Ms. Houry, the investigation hasn’t ended yet. Robin Bailey is the key suspect, so we must check him. Please leave,” Aaron directly sent her away.
Ewan had just given him an antique vase the previous day, which was worth collecting and cost at least 200, 000 dollars. Since he had accepted it, he must help Ewan.
Besides, Ewan didn’t ask him to do something private but sent Elise and her helpers away.
Aaron thought it was easy. He also checked Elise was a dumped member of the Houry family without any power or money. Other members of the Houry family suppressed her.
Robin was another pushover.
He used to be a vagabond but had become a security guard in the Robin-Sophia Group. If he was a regular employee, Aaron would be hesitant. However, he was just a security guard, a nobody.
Aaron didn’t think Robin mattered and could bully him wantonly.
He didn’t mind pulling rank on Robin.
“Mr. Turner, this matter was manipulated. We were set up,” Elise hurriedly explained.
She had just met Priya, who told her someone in the company had betrayed them. Therefore, Elise was sure they were set up and Robin was wronged.
“Ms. Houry, do you suspect we’ve done it?’
Aaron narrowed his gaze at Elise. He was the department chief for years, so he naturally emanated pressure. Usually, it scared ordinary people away.
“Mr. Turner, I…”
Elise paled. However, for Robin’s safety, she still wanted to beg him for mercy.
However, Aaron didn’t give her any chance but made a call. Shortly after, three tall, robust security guards appeared.
“Ms. Houry, this way, please,” one of them said aggressively, reaching out.
“Mr. Turner…”
Elise looked at Aaron again, but the latter looked away to ignore her. Since it wouldn’t work, Elise had to leave.
She decided to figure out another way to rescue Robin.
Meanwhile, the news that Robin had been captured was spread.
After Elise was gone, Aaron half-lay on his chair, pulled out an antique vase from the last drawer of his desk and studied it excitedly. “This is such a good piece. Wonderful!”
He was fond of collecting antiques the most.
Ewan knew it well and bribed him, so Aaron didn’t mind helping him. Anyway, he only needed to send Elise away. Robin wasn’t within his concern.
“That brat is too unlucky. Who does he think he is? He cannot afford to offend many people in Stillwater. How dare he provoke the Houry family? He deserves it!”
Aaron curled his lips.
Robin was just a security guard at a company. He wouldn’t waste any effort on Robin.
Suddenly, his cell phone rang on the desk.
