Two days later, Nina returned home in excitement while holding a contract. She yelled, “I got an internship! I go it!”
“What kind of job?” Her parents walked to the living room.
Elise and Robin went downstairs. Seeing how excited Nina was, Robin guessed it must be Alastair’s internship.
“Elise, you know what? The famous director, Ms. Alastair Angelo, came to our university yesterday. She wanted to recruit a role for her movie ‘What Love Can Do’. I was selected. I also had dinner with her. Look. Here’s our photo.”
Nina pulled out her phone to show Elise their group photo.
“Alastair Angelo?”
Elise had heard Alastair’s name before as the latter was too famous. She had also seen all movies directed by Alastair, so she became excited.
“My role isn’t unimportant. Although it’s a supporting role, I could survive from the beginning scene to the end. If I perform well, I may become famous.”
The more Nina thought about it, the more joyful she was.
This internship was different from the last time. Last time, the company was fake, and she realized she was deceived after calming down. However, the current opportunity was real.
She had met Alastair in person.
‘She still opened a backdoor for Nina,’ Robin thought to himself, shaking his head helplessly.
He was afraid Nina was too poor at performing to fail the crew, so he suggested Alastair give her an unimportant role.
Alastair could have given her a small role that would die pretty soon, but she offered Nina such a good role.
“Nina, how many students are there in your college? Why did she select you among so many students? Your performing skill isn’t ranked first place in your college, is it?”
Elise sensed something wrong.
Nina might be lucky to defeat her college mates, but Alastair was too famous. Elise wondered why she had dinner with a college student for such a minor role.
It smelt fishy.
Many actors and actresses wanted to dine with Alastair, but no news had shown she had a meal with anyone before.
“It’s simple. It must be because of Mr. Timothy Buosont. After all, Nina is his girlfriend now. He must want her to become a movie star, so he could marry her,” Karen said excitedly.
Timothy had become the biggest backer of their family.
“Well… The progress between us…”
Nina scratched her head and wanted to tell her mother she hadn’t had Timothy’s contact number after the car race. Also, she hadn’t talked to him after meeting him in the race last time.
Timothy also didn’t take the initiative to contact her.
However, before she finished speaking, Karen squeezed her into her arms. “Nina, you’ll marry into a wealthy family soon. You can’t forget me after that.”
The Buosont family was influential in Stillwater.
Once Nina married Timothy, Karen believed she would have a lot of money to spend. Then she could buy many luxury goods, such as lipgloss, handbags, high heels, and so on.
The future looked promising in her eyes.
“You can’t be like your older sister. She didn’t want to marry a rich man but insisted on marrying a beggar. She’s a company’s chairwoman on the board but married a poor guy. How hilarious!”
As Karen spoke, she mocked Robin again.
She wished the good-for-nothing could vanish from her house.
Elise frowned. She naturally stepped to Robin and stood protectively in front of him. Although Robin was too ordinary and incompetent, he was her husband.
“Mom, Robin is a decent man,” Nina defended Robin.
“Are you all right, silly girl?”
Karen rubbed her head worriedly. “You disliked Robin Bailey the most. Whenever you came back home, you cursed him. I also saw a hoodoo doll with his name in your room. You often sting it with needles. Have you forgotten? How can you defend him? He’s worthless.”
Her last line was the critical point.
Since Robin was worthless, he couldn’t buy her luxury goods. Therefore, Karen never wanted Robin to stay in her house.
“Please stop mentioning the bygones, Mom.”
Nina scratched her head.
In the past, she hated Robin as he was a scumbag and made Elise suffer. However, after getting along with him for several weeks, she could tell Robin wasn’t bad.
He was indeed poor, though.
“You! Humph!”
Karen was too angry that she couldn’t help shivering. Then she cursed Robin, “You’ll get out of our house in five months. Think you deserve my daughter, huh? Look at Timothy Buosont. Look at yourself. Dream on!”
She spat at Robin and stormed out of the house, heading to play mahjong.
Robin ignored her completely, looking at Nina with mixed feelings. Finally, he didn’t help her in vain. However, he didn’t expect Nina to hate him THAT much.
Nina had hated him to the core. Robin wondered if Elise was the same.
He approached Elise and held her hand. Elise blushed. Usually, she took the initiative to hold Robin’s hand, and he never actively took her hand.
She guessed he must be too dull.
However, Elise struggled slightly. After failing to break free, she stopped it. Joy surged in her chest secretly.
However, before they interacted more intimately, Elise’s phone rang. She swiped to answer. “Hello, Priya? What’s up?”
“Ms. Houry, something happened to our construction site.”
Elise’s only trustworthy subordinate, Priya, sounded pretty anxious on the phone.
“Calm down. Tell me what happened. I’ll be there right now.”
After exchanging a few words, Elise consoled Priya and ended the call. Before she was about to leave the house, she was dragged back.
Looking back, she realized she was still holding Robin’s hand tightly.
“Are you free now?” she asked.
“I’ll go with you.”
Robin beamed at her.
‘If you wish, I can accompany you to work every day,’ he added inwardly.
“Let’s go.”
After leaving the house, they headed for the construction site directly. It was excellent land belonging to the Robin-Sophia Group.
Seeing them get down from the car, Priya trotted to them anxiously.
“Hello, Ms. Houry.”
“Let’s go.”
Elise and Robin followed her. When arriving at the site, Elise was startled. Robin’s lips twitched.
