“Yes, Captain Willis,” the policeman answered.
Lacey looked over at Robin. Reluctantly, she said, “Thank you for reporting this case. We’ve watched this gang for months, but they hide too well. As for their backer, I will also find and punish him by laws.”
She detested Robin, but business was business.
Although she didn’t know why Robin had hidden and did a good thing, she refused to believe he was decent according to her experiences.
Last time, Lacey received an order from her supervisor to stop the investigation.
She hated such behavior the most and thought Robin did things wantonly based on his family background. Anyway, she was determined to arrest them.
Suddenly, Nina poked her head behind Robin and asked, “Any reward?”
“Yes, there is. 20, 000 bucks. Your brother-in-law doesn’t lack money. He has a 200-million-dollar weekly allowance. The 20, 000 bucks can be donated to the police station or used to buy more police dogs.”
Lacey shook her head, unwilling to reward Robin.
She didn’t think he lacked money.
She’d rather donate the 20, 000 dollars instead of letting Robin have it.
Lacey joined her teammates in the investigation. Nina was angry, following her unhappily. Shortly after, she returned and waved her phone at Robin. “Seen it, Robin Bailey? 20, 000 bucks.”
Lacey wired the money to her.
She didn’t think Robin lacked such money and wished to use it to do something more meaningful. However, when Nina asked her for it, she wired it to Nina.
After all, it was the rules of the police station.
“Well done,” Robin chuckled.
“Let’s get out of here.”
“OK.”
Although Nina didn’t get the internship, she was excited somehow.
On the way home, she kept looking at Robin weirdly. “Robin Bailey, did you have any grudges against that policewoman?”
“Why do you think so?” Robin asked, tilting his head.
“I could tell she wished to skin you alive. She repeatedly said you were from a wealthy family and had a 200-million-dollar weekly allowance. Why?”
“Probably I’m too handsome. She failed to gain my heart, so she wanted to ruin me.”
“Stop bragging.”
Nina rolled her eyes at him. However, she still doubted the reward.
Lacey was known as a righteous policewoman. However, she refused to reward Robin and said he didn’t lack money.
If Nina hadn’t asked her for it, Lacey wouldn’t have given it to them.
Nina was confused and smelt something fishy.
“It doesn’t make any sense. Tell me the truth.”
Nina gazed at Robin in suspicion.
“What do you mean by the truth?”
“Things between you and Lacey Willis. I can smell something fishy between you two. I’ll tell Elise about it if you don’t tell me the truth.”
“You owed a 600, 000-dollar usury before.”
Robin’s words changed Nina’s expression. Although she had paid back the money, her parents and sister would scold her if this matter was exposed.
She was afraid of Elise the most.
“Nothing. Really,” Robin repeated after knowing Nina was scared.
That was the truth. Nothing was between Robin and Lacey.
“All right.”
Nina curled her lips to believe him for the time being. Besides, she could tell how much Lacey detested Robin, so at least they shouldn’t be intimate.
“By the way, I’ll save the 20, 000 dollars for you. Or you’ll spend them. You have a wife and a daughter, so you must work hard. Stop wandering around. You’ll lose your family if you cannot make 400, 000 dollars in six months. Understand?”
Nina poked Robin, heaving a sigh.
No matter what, after getting along with him for several days, Nina roughly admitted him to be her brother-in-law. However, she still thought he was good for nothing.
Elise was an excellent graduate of the University of Stillwater. During her college life, she established Lands Corporation. If the incident seven years ago hadn’t happened, Elise would have had several billion dollars.
Robin was just a homeless man and worked as a security guard currently.
In Nina’s opinion, he didn’t deserve Elise in every aspect.
“We’re approaching the University of Stillwater,” the bus broadcast announced.
They arrived at the university in 30 minutes. Holding Robin’s hand, Nina said, “It’s still early. Let’s go to Piano Center.”
“Piano Center?” Robin asked.
“Piano Center is a piano training center next to my university. Can you accompany me to attend my class? You’ll have a chance to listen to my excellent skills.”
Nina dragged Robin to the training center.
In fact, she was like a child who wanted to show off her drawings. After all, she was only 18.
“No problem.”
Robin followed her. The training center was located on a commercial street right to the university. After bypassing a few malls and turning two corners, they arrived at Piano Center.
Once they entered, Nina saw two girls that she knew.
They swung towards Nina. One tall girl with heavy makeup glanced at Robin and mocked, “Nina Houry? You are known as pure, innocent, and not interested in men. I can’t believe you are so intimate with a man. Is he your sugar daddy? How much does he pay you?”
“Mind your language, Hana Gill.”
Nina frowned at her and explained to Robin, “Her crush is after me, but I’ve refused him. He still refused to give up. So she’s always against me.”
“Oops, I didn’t expect you to be so cowardly. Don’t dare to utter a beep?” Hana said ironically, looking down her nose at Nina.
“Did you hook up with this guy after refusing Zak? This guy looks poor. I wonder if all his outfits are worth 20 bucks in total. You are indeed blind! You should feel honored to be Zak’s crush. Do you know who Zak is? His father is the director of the university board. Unfortunately, you’ve missed such a good chance,” another girl added and shook her head in disdain.
“Mind your own business,” Nina retorted overbearingly, gripping Robin’s hand.
“Mind my own business? We’re college mates, aren’t we? I’m warm-hearted. However, I didn’t expect you to hook up with a poor man and give up the opportunity to lead a pleasant life.”
Hana broke off. With a triumphant smile, she added, “By the way, Zak has become my boyfriend. You’ve missed the chance. You’ll regret it for sure.”
