Chapter 89 Too Desperately

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

“Mr. Cook seemed confident. He directly staked 60, 000 dollars in the first round.”
All the others were shocked. Each player had only 400, 000 dollars in total. Louis staked 60, 000 in the very beginning, which was one-eighth of his total chips. Although it was a small pile, if he kept gambling like this, all his chips would be used up soon.
Therefore, the onlookers could tell how confident and skillful he was. Louis dared to stake so many chips in the first round, so they believed the other guy would be scared.
“In or out?” Louis narrowed his gaze at Robin.
In fact, he didn’t check his trump card earlier. He flicked his second card to impress others. Hence, he didn’t know if he could defeat Robin.
He did it to scare Robin because five-card stud was more like a psychological war.
“Out,” Robin didn’t choose to chip in.
“I knew it! That brat has been scared shitless. He’ll be doomed soon. By the way, what’s Mr. Cook’s card? How could he stake 60, 000 dollars in the first round?”
“I guess he must have a good hand. Or he wouldn’t have done it.”
“That brat is destined to lose the game. He lost the first round. I cannot imagine how he would end up later.”
All the onlookers made wild guesses.
No matter what trump card Louis had got, Robin directly gave up the first round. All of them thought he was frightened, as they would if they were Robin. It was a considerable number indeed.
Therefore, all of them thought Louis’s trump card was with high points.
Once Robin chipped in, he might lose easily. Therefore, he was out to avoid losing too much.
How exciting!
The onlookers became tense, their hearts thumping.
“Wise choice,” Louis remarked.
His behavior made many people believe he had got good cards, luckily. Some of them didn’t believe it, thinking Louis was acting.
They all gazed at Louis and Robin curiously.
“Please spread your card,” said the dealer.
According to the rule, the players should spread their second cards before she dealt the third card. Although Louis had won this round, the others must see his card.
Louis laid his card face up; it was nine, the lowest point in the game.
“Nine? The lowest point. Haha… That brat lost. I didn’t expect Mr. Cook to act so well.”
“Act well? That’s his technique. Don’t forget it’s a psychological war.”
“Seen that? Even though Mr. Cook didn’t have a good hand, that brat couldn’t win either. No wonder Mr. Cook was Gambling Master’s apprentice. He scared the brat and won against him.”
The onlookers discussed excitedly.
In the game, the card of nine was considered the lowest point. However, Louis had scared Robin with such a card and won against him in the first round.
It was inconceivable. That also showed his excellent skills.
In fact, Louis didn’t know his second card earlier. He only riffled it and acted to make others think he had checked it.
He was playing psychological warfare.
Scar breathed a sigh of relief. Robin would have won this round if he had chosen to chip in. However, he didn’t and was scared by Louis. Therefore, Scar believed Robin would have less possibility of winning this game by the end.
“I didn’t spend my money on Mr. Cook in vain,” Scar muttered in satisfaction.
He picked up another cigarette, lit it up, and continued to watch the game.
The game had just started. The players would use psychological strategies, luck, and skills to win the game. Therefore, the five-card stud was the tensest game.
“Robin, stay calm. The winner at the beginning might not be the one who wins in the end. This is just the first round,” a man’s voice sounded in the crowd.
Others looked over and saw Dillon leaning against Emma with a weak look. Blood covered his body, and he looked as if he was dying.
“Stop talking nonsense.”
Emma panicked.
They were in Scar’s territory. If Dillon kept being arrogant, he and Robin couldn’t leave the nightclub after Scar was annoyed.
Emma regretted hitting on Robin earlier, feeling her life was in danger.
Therefore, she wanted to push Dillon away and leave the scene. However, after checking on him, she didn’t have the heart but heaved a sigh.
“I almost can’t afford a meal. How stupid I am to receive you two! I’ll suffer a loss for sure. Forget it. It’s not my day, anyway.”
Emma didn’t leave Dillon as her heart softened.
She wasn’t from the underworld but just suffered from poverty. It was also her first time working for such a nightclub, so she wasn’t as cruel as others.
“I’ll add 10% tips for you. No matter how much I win, I’ll give you 30% in total,” Robin replied.
Emma rolled her eyes and mumbled, “I don’t want any funeral money.”
She didn’t take his words seriously. After two more rounds, she believed Robin would lose his life. In that case, how could he tip her?
Emma shook her horrible ideas off her brain. Anyway, she would never accept the funeral money.
“A new round?” the dealer asked.
“Yes. Please.” The two men nodded.
Suddenly, Robin flicked his hand. “Please don’t cut the deck this time but deal the cards directly.”
His words shocked everyone, including the dealer.
‘Is he too arrogant? Does he want to win too desperately to keep rational? Or he’s prepared to lose the game and has given up?’
People wondered. Cutting the deck could prevent the dealer from cheating. After all, some dealers were bribed.
Besides, this dealer worked for Scar.
However, Robin requested her not to cut the deck, so the dealer could manipulate the game more, which also meant Scar could control the game. The onlookers wondered if it was because Robin was confident in his techniques or if he had given up.
Some also guessed that he was too arrogant and bold.
“What on earth does this brat want? I can’t quite follow him.”
“He must become angry because of the embarrassment and want to scare Mr. Cook. After all, he was freaked out by Mr. Cook and felt disgraced.”
“I agreed. However, the emotional players will always lose the game easily.”
Almost all people in the nightclub believed Louis would win. After Robin requested, no one supported him, and they all thought he would lose.
“What do you think, Boss?” the dealer looked over at Scar.
The latter grinned and nodded at her. Then, the dealer started to deal cards flexibly again.
