Chapter 78 Begging Elise to Return

“Come to our house and beg her? Stop kidding!”
Karen laughed loudly. “Robin Bailey, I wonder if you are indeed an airhead. Or does too much housework give you an illusion? Elise’s words had already offended the Houry family. They won’t forgive her.”
Her words made Elise frown as Karen had gone too far. She bit out, “Mom, can you be polite?”
“Why should I be polite to him? He dreamed the Houry family would come to our house and beg you to go back. If that happens, I’ll eat the broom in his hands.”
Karen pointed at the broom.
She knew the Houry family well. All of them were so proud. Now, they had gained the upper hand, so they would never come to their house and beg Elise to return.
Suddenly, they heard knocks on the door.
“Who is it?”
Karen walked over patiently. After opening the door, two figures entered. All people in the living room were taken aback.
They were David and Snowy.
“Good day, Aunt Karen,” David greeted Karen with a bright smile.
He immediately pulled out a handbag and passed it to her. “Aunt Karen, I’ve been too busy to visit you. This is a small gift from me to you. Please accept it.”
“LV65? It’s the latest design!” The handbag lit up Karen’s eyes.
“Why are you here?” Elise stood up, looking at David and Snowy unhappily.
The two tried every possible means to frame her and kick her out of Lands Corporation and the Houry family.
“We are here to apologize to you, Elise. Grandpa thought for a while after the meeting and realized we had gone too far. After all, we’re family. We shouldn’t have done that to you,” David answered sincerely.
In fact, he was unwilling to come to Elise. Earlier, he insisted on kicking her out, but now, he had to obediently apologize to her and ask her to go back. He felt ashamed.
However, he had to. Or the company would go bankrupt.
Land Corporation had belonged to him, so he couldn’t have the heart to watch it go to the dogs without doing anything.
“What? Father regretted it and wanted us to go back?”
Rodney was smoking a cigarette. Upon hearing David’s words, he jumped to his feet excitedly. He had thought he couldn’t return to the family anymore. Much to his surprise, Gordon had changed his mind.
“Yes. Grandpa considered it for a whole night and regretted it. Therefore, he asked us to invite you and Elise back to work in the company. To show our apologies, we brought you these things.”
David pointed to the piles of bags behind him.
With a glance, Karen could tell all those things were valuable, costing at least 20, 000 dollars. To please Karen, they spent a lot of money this time.
“Thank you,” Karen replied politely.
However, she picked them up one after another with a bright smile.
“OK. OK. We agree…”
Before Rodney agreed, Elise stopped him, “Wait a minute. I disagree.”
“Why, Elise? The Houry family has offered us a chance. We can return,” Rodney asked anxiously.
Elise calmed down. She held her arms across her chest and sat on the sofa with a faint smile. “David, it’s not THAT simple, is it? You came to apologize to me in person. It’s too rare. I’m afraid something must have happened to the company. Right?”
David and Snowy behaved too abnormally, so Elise sensed something fishy behind it.
David knew Elise well, and Elise also knew him well. He was always proud with high self-esteem. Spoiled by Gordon, David longed for Lands Corporation and tried every possible means to kick her out.
However, David took the initiative to apologize to her and behaved so humbly.
Elise was sure something must have happened to Lands Corporation.
‘Damn it!’ David cursed inwardly.
He didn’t expect Elise to figure out the truth. If nothing had happened to Lands Corporation, he wouldn’t have come to Elise’s house. However, he wore a smile and replied, “Just some trifles. No big deal.”
“No big deal? All right. I won’t go back. You guys can handle them. Why would I go back?”
Elise curled up on the sofa without the intention of returning.
‘Bitch!’
David clenched his fists, anger surging in his chest. He wished he could immediately turn away. However, thinking of the company’s crisis, he repressed his anger and forced himself to stay.
“Well, something happened. The Robin-Sophia Group insisted on working with you on the project as you signed the contract with them,” David told her the truth reluctantly.
“No wonder.”
Elise understood, looking at Robin. Robin helped her gain the Robin-Sophia Group’s project. Also, he stated that the Houry family would come to beg her.
Things happened as he predicted.
Elise felt suspicious again and decided to ask Robin about it later.
“Elise, we’re family. Why do you have to give us a hard time? Hurry up and return to the company. We will still keep your original position for you. You are not demoted,” David prompted in a friendly tone.
However, Elise sneered, “My original position? Humph! David Houry, you are counting the chickens. I was Lands Corporation’s chairwoman of the board. I personally founded this company. Earlier, Grandpa promised the person who signed the contract with the Robin-Sophia Group would become the chairman.”
“I obtained the project. Then you blamed me for offending Lucas Corporation and causing trouble for the company. I resolved the trouble, and Lucas Corporation has been gone.”
“Don’t you think I should be the chairwoman of the board?” Elise asked, stressing each syllable.
David paled. He had expected Elise to request to become the chairwoman of the board. However, he tried hard and managed to become the acting chairman, so he was reluctant to let Elise take it.
After a thought, he retreated slightly and replied, “Elise, we’re family. Why do you have to do this? Besides, I cannot make such a decision. Grandpa has the final say. Why don’t you return to work in the company first? After Grandpa gets better, he’ll let you become the chairwoman of the board. What do you think?”
“After he gets better? If he is always sick and doesn’t come to the company, you’ll be the chairman of the board all the time, won’t you?”
Elise realized that David wanted to buy some time. With a sneer, she added, “If you want me to return to the company, ask Grandpa to talk to me personally. You two don’t deserve to talk to me.”
“By the way, I won’t return to the Houry family. As I said yesterday, I voluntarily left. My family name is Houry, but I have nothing to do with you. I’ll never return to such a cold, impersonal family.”
