Samantha’s POV
I gulped hard as the soft air gushed at the part of my neck that I had always tried to hide from everyone but now it was very visible.
“Are you sure this is going to go cool?” I asked Cara.
“I am unsure,” she replied.
Exposing the mark on my neck was dangerous but yet Kayden was right, my hair usually got in the way with me fighting.
“We have to fight as humans?” I asked Kay.
“Yes just for a few minutes,” he replied and I nodded.
“It would just be a few minutes and then I would shapeshift and then the mark would be concealed again, right?” I asked myself.
“Is anything wrong Mantha?” He asked again and I turned to face him with a small smile.
“Nothing at all, I am absolutely fine and great,” I replied him.
“You’re sure?” He asked, definitely noticing my mood.
“I am okay.”
“Is this something about this mark?” He asked and I gulped.
“What could possibly be about this mark?” I asked with nervous laughter.
“Let’s go.” I urged him and we headed towards the door.
“Wait a min, Samantha, this is kind of dangerous. You can make use of the hairband when you are about to get into the fighting grounds, for now, it would be better to let your hair down.” Cara said and I considered her words wisely.
“Kayden, I would love to let my hair down for now. I would pack it up when I am about to get in the fighting grounds, how is that?” I asked him and he nodded with a slight hesitation and curiosity evident in his look
I pulled down the hairband and let my hair fall across my shoulder once more. I ran my hands through the hair and made sure it covered my neck properly.
“Let’s go now,” I said to him and he led me out while I held onto his arm.
Immediately we were out of the room, the first person we came in contact with was Lauren and sure enough, that was some bit of bad luck there.
“Hello.” I waved at her and she stared at me contemptuously.
“Good day Alpha Kayden.” she bowed slightly to him before facing me.
“You can’t even wait anymore? Is that how eager you are? Or you are just nervous?” She asked noticing that I had already changed my outfit.
“Maybe I am just eager, eager to win this and get it over with,” I replied and she snorted.
“Let’s see.” she walked away with an air of pride around her.
“Don’t think about Lauren too much, I am sure that she is just underestimating you. Just show her what you are worth.” Kay said to me.
“Yes, that’s just what I am going to do,” Cara replied.
“Samantha, you have to take care of your part very well, make sure you win the human fight,” Cara said to me.
“I’ve got this buddy,” I replied her.
“Your human skills are your best shot against Lauren, she is not too good at it,” Kayden said as we walked off.
“I would have to give a speech right now, so you have to stay back here, okay? I would be back before the both of you are called into the fighting arena,” he said reassuringly and I nodded.
He walked away and I puffed out air.
Everyone has led away to the yards of the mansion, the yard was very large and the grounds there were just appropriate for the contest.
The yard had been decorated already for the occasion and it looked better than it was the last time I came there.
The seats arranged were soon filled up with wolves all around. It felt quite good being around wolves like myself and most importantly being around free wolves and not wolves in bondage.
I took my seat too and a lady walked up to me.
“Are you in for the fight too?” She asked and I nodded with a small smile.
“Then please follow me ma,” she replied and I got up with a cup of wine in my hand.
She led me to a place where Lauren was too, I and Lauren said no words to each other.
From where we were standing, we could see Kayden. He walked up the podium and standing tall and radiant as ever he took hold of the microphone.
“Good day all. Thank you for attending this ceremony as you all know, this birthday celebration is much more special because it has one more special event but before that, I would like to let everyone here know that I, Alpha Kayden would for the rest of my life work only for the good of the pack, every birthday I will celebrate will be with more achievements of the Wolfdom,” he said in his cool voice and claps erupted.
He bowed slightly with that cold face that now seemed a bit weird to me. I chuckled softly.
“What’s so funny? Well, I love your courage, you can still afford to laugh even when you very well know that you are going to leave here tonight.” Lauren said to me but I gave no reply.
I no longer had any strength to waste on her, I had to reserve my strength.
I shut my eyes tight and kept in every bit of nervousness.
“Tonight….” I heard a voice that I immediately recognized to he Kayden’s Dad voice.
I opened my shut eyes and looked at him.
“There will be a contest between the ones that are here for the hand of Alpha Kayden… I present to you Lauren of the blue moon’s pack!”
Lauren walked away from the spot the both of us were and walked bravely and confidently to the fighting grounds.
She seemed to have a lot of supporters and the cheers were very high for her.
I packed my hair up quickly and breathed out deeply.
“And I present to you, Samantha from the…” He halted for a moment.
“From the blue moon’s pack.” he completed his words and I quite wondered why he would help me.
He could have easily given me out that I had no particular source and the hatred for me would have increased in the crowd.
I walked out from the spot while trying to maintain very good composure.
There were hardly any cheers but two were the loudest, James and Cassie.
I looked up and smiled faintly at both of them.
My eyes surveyed the crowd and landed on them… Wait a moment….. My slave master?!
