Kayden’s POV
I stared at the shut door. I knew very well that she ran out so that I would not hold her back. Yeah, I wanted her to work hard over the days, I wanted her to train hard but then she was overexerting herself and going over my expectations.
“She is just trying to be strong for us,” Jay said and I agreed with him.
Perhaps Mantha thought that she was not fighting enough for us to be together and decided to make the most of this period for us.
But then I could not hold back the fact that I was still scared of what the results might be. At the stage that Mantha had gotten to, she was only an equal of Lauren, none was better than the other.
Usually, under normal circumstances, that would have been something to be so damn proud of but not under these circumstances. I had lost Diane on this very day and today again… There was a possibility that I might be drifted apart from Mantha.
“Never! I would never let that happen!” I muttered.
Even if she does not win the contest, I would ensure that she and only she would become my partner forever.
I looked around Mantha’s room. Somehow I was prompted to search the room if I would find anything that might tell me more about Mantha because the thing was that I had become reality curious about her ever since the witch told me that she was either the daughter of an Alpha or a strong beta.
Over the years, I did not think I had heard of a beta or Alpha reporting the case of his missing daughter and that made me wonder more cause I had sent Davis to check out if there were any such reports, it was negative and from my searching too, there was no reports such as that.
I shook off the idea of searching her room and exited the room. I went into my room, stood in front of the mirror and gazed directly into it.
There was nothing…..
It was the first time in years that the image of a bloody Diane did not appear in the mirror on my birthday. My birthday had always been me being haunted me Diane but it seemed like this one was going to be different because of Diane.
I clasped my hands together tightly and did something I had not done in a long time, I prayed.
“Please God, the moon goddess I know I have not been the best but please let Mantha win tonight, let her win to stay by my side.” I prayed.
The door opened and I unclasped my hands.
“Good morning son, happy birthday.” mum’s voice came to me
“Good morning mum and thanks,” I replied, turning to look at her.
“You look worried.” she pointed out.
“You can ask your husband about it,” I replied her.
“C’mon, I think Mantha would do a great job.” mum said.
“And what if she does not win? She and Lauren, I can not even point out who can win.”
“Don’t overthink things, I am sure Mantha is going to win, the moon goddess chose her for you, she definitely would not let go of the both of you now.”
“You could just have easily solved this by dissuading dad or even Lauren herself,” I replied.
“I tried Kayden but none of them is listening to me. I have no idea why your dad is not taking Mantha in, he is the one who has desperately wanted you to get a mate.”
“Forget about it mum.” I waved it off and walked over to my closet.
“Promise me you are going to be cheerful at your birthday party.” she requested.
“I can’t promise you that because I very well know that I can’t be cheerful,” I replied.
“Even if Mantha does not win and it’s time to go against your dad, I promise I would stand by your side,” she promised and I turned to look at her.
“Really?”
“Of course, why would I lie to you?”
“Thank you, mum.”
“You are always welcome. Now, give me one of those smiles you offer to Samantha.” she requested and I broke into smiles.
“That’s more like it, get ready for your birthday party.” she smiled back at me and walked out of the room.
“Now, we’ve got one more supporter,” Jay said.
“I knew we had mum, mum would never go against me, it’s always the old man,” I replied.
“I don’t understand why he is not after the happiness of his pup.”
“I’d better go take a bath to get this nervousness out of me,” I replied Jay, pulling off my clothes.
The clothes I was going to put on for the day had already been laid out on the bed.
I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I stood under the cold water for minutes and for the first time it seemed like the cold water could not even wash away my nervousness.
“This is not working, I should just go and get together with Mantha,” I said to Jay and turned off the shower.
I exited the bathroom and dried my hair up, I dressed up and clicked on the button that was attached to my study table, as it was the ritual on my birthday, the door opened and my hairstylists streamed in.
They spent quite a long time with their job on my hair, I took a look at my wristwatch.
Mantha should also be getting ready by now.
After a long while, they were finally done. I got up without even taking a look at the mirror.
“You can leave,” I said and they all walked out in their straight file.
I walked out of the room, locked my door and buried the key in my pockets. I found my way to Mantha’s room.
I opened up the door and found her in a towel, with Cassie trying to dry her hair.
“I know you’re here,” she mumbled when I tried to sneak up on her.
“You’re boring.” I walked to her and grabbed the hairdryer from her.
“You can leave,” I said to Cassie and she bowed.
“Yes Alpha.” she walked out of the room.
I helped her in drying her hair, she looked up at me and I took the opportunity to kiss her lips.
“You are always using every opportunity,” she grumbled cutely.
“That’s how I became a successful businessman.” I replied with a smirk.
“I would go and get dressed up in the dress you bought for me,” she said to me, getting up from where she was seated.
“Sure, let me see how beautiful you are going to look.” I stared at her fondly and she exited the room into the bathroom.
I waited impatiently, I had no idea why she had to go into the bathroom just to dress up but it’s a girl thing anyways.
“How do I look?” She asked and I raised my head from the floor I was staring at.
My jaw dropped as I stared at the angel in person before me.
I was completely speechless.
