CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED.
Eating with Grandma while experiencing an emotional post traumatic condition was the worst decision Adele made. Not for a single moment did Grandma spare her poor nerves and ears from hearing how the hit on Shannelle’s forehead could have been much more dangerous if it landed on her nose, her eyes, her mouth or her temporal bone.
When Adele logically asked her what the hell was this
temporal bone, Grandma was more than eager to reply.
“The doctor said it’s the part of the skull around the ear area. It is very fragile, she could have had a concussion!”
Adele bet the doctor was so idle that he explained the whole freaking human head anatomy for them. It is either that or that the poor man was actually forced to explain the human anatomy because Grandma and her mother in-law fought at the hospital and got him involved and stuck between them.
She spoke for a very long time and although Adele was initially hungry, she became full without eating much just hearing her exaggerated point of view.
As for the reason why she still kept her company against her heart’s desire to leave, it was because even if she left, Adele knew Grandmawould follow her to her room and finish what she had to say, and if she shamelessly just closed the door to her face, she would find the chance in the following days and she would finish what she had to say.
Even if Adele straightforward informed her:
“Grandma, I don’t want to hear any of this, you already
know my case is particular, I really don’t want you to
say anything more!”
She would say she understands, but would continue
speaking in the same subject until she freaking finished
what she had to say!
Since there was absolutely no escape, it was better to
get rid of this situation sooner.
While Adele was being tortured, Jamal suddenly appeared in the dining room and he walked straight towards Adele under her surprised watchful eyes. He stood right behind her seat, forcing her to stretch her neck quite uncomfortably to see him.
“Why did you come down? your dinner is already in
the room” She asked.
He smiled weirdly and refused to answer. Instead, he looked at Grandma.
“Excuse me Grandma, I will take Adele now, bon appétit.” He gently patted on Adele’s shoulders, signaling her to follow him.
Adele felt confused with that sudden weird behavior of his. Assuming that the matter must have been urgent, she looked at the food she had barely eaten with a burdened heart before standing up to follow him.
Before leaving, she wanted to wish Grandma good night, but when She turned and looked at her, her face was as red as the soup she was eating.
Grandma was blushing and burying her head in her plate not to make eye contact with them.
‘What dirty thoughts was that old woman having?’
Adele’s mind questioned.
Jamal was too tired to do any of what she obviously
had in head to begin with, probably he just wanted to
apologize for forgetting about her for hours.
When they reached their room, Adele figured out Grandma indeed knew her grandson much better than she did. He had barely closed the door when he already started the naughty business.
Since Adele was both surprised and very tired, she resisted and tried to move away. He still insisted to keep hugging her tightly, and lightly kissed her cheeks.
Adele didn’t need to read a book about Jamal to understand he was just being overwhelmed by happiness, even though she couldn’t see his face clearly
since someone was in such hurry that he forgot to turn
on the lights. When she held his face between her palms in a desperate attempt to stop his kisses, his lips were
smiling widely.
“Did something happen?” She asked curiously.
Jamal hugged her even tighter after hearing her question and then he finally spoke.
“Thank you.” He said.
It was very rare for him to be happy and worse of all, to show his happiness. Knowing that he was in such a good mood made Adele smile like a fool as well.
You see, love is such a weird thing, such a strong and
powerful bond, that was the only explanation she could find for the extreme happiness She was feeling in her
husband’s embrace although there was no logical
reason for her to be happy.
“What are you thanking me for?” She asked while circling her arms around him too and resting her head on his chest.
He took in a deep breath, then explained to her with a
sound that vibrated in her ears through his chest.
“Those papers in the safe are so important. I was
worried about them ever since Leonard told me he
dropped them in the hall and when he came back to collect them, he didn’t find them. We asked the butler and the protection team leader, they both didn’t know were
they were. We assumed father took them since he was
absent in the hospital so we were already discussing
the possible damage that we would face, all the worst
case scenarios and alternatives. Not in a single second did I think of the possibility that you could have taken
them instead!”
He spoke quite excitedly and Adele felt a bit embarrassed with the only question she had in mind.
She still decided to ask it though.
“Who is Leonard?”
He sighed helplessly before answering
“Leonard Charles, the VP. How come you not know him
even when you’ve been working at Dominick Co for months now? Plus, you both often met, he was with me at the garden today when you came to speak with me.”
Once he finished introducing Mr. Leonard in his high and
mighty way, Adele felt so displeased.
When one works at Dominick Co, the company doesn’t give you a catalogue with all the names and pictures of workers inside.
In fact, the administrative stuff was constantly changing
figures that she never felt the need to familiarize herself
with any of their names or faces.
“In case you don’t know, even ‘you’ are an unknown
figure in your own company! Many employees never
have never had the chance to see you. How then do you expect me to know the VP who is even more low key than you are? I’m just an average employee working for you Mr CEO, I need to at least be promoted to a department manager for me to meet the higher ups in your company.”
After she finished speaking, Jamal stopped hugging her and pecked her forehead. He then walked towards the door to switch on the lights.
“Conglomerate.” He corrected once the lights were on.
“Yeah, whatever!”
“And you will not get a promotion Adele, you don’t
have the necessary qualifications for it.” He bossily
informed her.
“When did I say I wanted a promotion?”
Adele wondered
She felt so angry with his arrogant words.
“What do I need a promotion for? I will quit pretty soon then have a job where I will use my qualifications.” She scolded and he nodded in agreement although it was written right on his face: “This will happen only in my dreams.”
Speaking about dreams, after Adele finished all the food that was originally served for Jamal without giving him not even a sip of water, she made him sleep on the sofa while she slept alone on the bed and the reason was: “He didn’t have enough ‘qualifications’ to both eat and sleep beside her, no objections allowed!”
During the following couple of days, the villa turned into a museum, literally.
Her mother in-law informed the whole elite society in the country about Shannelle’s near death” experience and
consequently, many decided to suddenly turn into very
dutiful creatures came to the mansion to visit the survivor.
At the beginning, many among them were sent back without setting one foot inside the Mansion. The guards at the exterior gate refused to let them in following
Jamal’s strict orders, but after refusing 11 extremely wealthy visitors in just 3 days, Adele came to realize that it was useless, disrespectful and dangerous to refuse such mighty people!
Jamal already had a ton of enemies so he didn’t have to create new ones by doing such a silly thing.
Having this strong motivation in head, Adele found herself suggesting to him despite her heart’s wish.
“Jamal, I don’t think it’s proper to keep disrespectfully sending these people back from the gate. You are only creating problems that you really don’t need. Since it’s obviously your mother’s plot then why don’t you just either send Shannelle over to your parents place or ask your mother to come here and take care of her guests?”
“Shannelle has to stay here.” Jamal replied coldly while
keeping his focus on his laptop instead of looking at Adele.
” So, how are you going to deal with the visitors?”
“I’ve already dealt with them, they were all told they will be invited to a recovery party that mother will organize in her mansion.”
sneaky man!
Adele thought.
“And why didn’t you tell me about it?” She asked with
displeasure.
” I didn’t know you were told about the visitors to begin with. I personally ordered them not to bother you with
this unnecessary matter, was Grandma the one who told
you about this?”
” Yes.” Adele mumbled.
He finally raised his eyes to look at her and smiled.
“Next time, if there is anything that is bothering you, just come straightforward and discuss it with me, don’t burden your head with thinking. Just relax.”
Although Adele didn’t find those words romantic at all, she still shamelessly held his face between her palms and pecked his lips.
“I will try to remember that.”
————————
Adele was so idle that morning and she wanted to do
something useful. One strange idea led to the other and she somehow ended up deciding to cook lunch. That decision of hers pleased her husband to the extent he delayed all his morning meetings to the afternoon just to assist her cook in the kitchen.
There was really no need for Jamal’s help, still he insisted on coming with a cheerful face. Although he cleared his schedule, he still had important matters to attend to that morning.
“I will go work in my bureau now. Let me know when you start cooking.”
And that was exactly what she did.
She watched a few news channels on TV while he worked, then when it was time to go to the kitchen, she went to find him in his office.
The door was already open, so she knocked gently and
walked in.
He didn’t notice her entry, so she steadily walked towards Jamal to curiously peek at what he was doing, and yes, that is a woman’s habit.
Even though she knew her husband was just reading boring papers, she had to make sure he was really reading boring papers.
“Is it time to go?” Jamal whispered while lifting his eyes from the screen to look at her when she reached him.
She nodded.
The cooking lasted a few hours and Adele served the soup she made to the people who were sitting on the table, namely my husband, Grandma and Shannelle.
Grandma immediately started criticizing her cooking, pointing out all the little mistakes her and Jamal made to the point where Adele felt she put waste water on Grandma’s plate instead of edible food.
She was speaking endlessly when Shannelle suddenly
interrupted her.
” It isn’t bad.” She remarked and Adele barely felt a drop of joy inside my heart when she
surprisingly added: “You used to cook quite a lot for Henry. He had an album which had pictures of all the dishes you ever made for him. I know this because I confronted him when I found the album and he said these dishes were made by his ex. I didn’t know you were the mysterious girl though, he kept a lot of souvenirs from your days.”
That was a very fat lie.
“Shannelle!” Jamal shouted while loudly banging on the
table, startling everyone.
Shannelle looked at him intensely and started yelling.
“Don’t tell me you’re not bothered with how much he loves your wife, Jamal! He was ready to risk it all for
her! He even went to such lengths against you just
for her! How do you know that her heart won’t be moved again by him? She only married you for your money and she can easily get money through divorce, stop acting naive!”
” You better respect my wife.” Jamal coldly ordered
her.
She scoffed.”
“Else what?” She dared. “Will you throw me in jail as well? Will you have me exiled like you planned to do to Danielle? What else are you still ready to do for someone who doesn’t care about you at all?”
Her words were very poisonous.
Adele didn’t interrupt her because she felt it was useless trying to convince her to believe something she would never believe.
While she was talking, Adele just wished Jamal’s heart
won’t be affected with what she was saying.
She didn’t want to stay for longer and listen to such unnecessarily hurtful accusations, so she left the dining
room and walked to the garden to have some fresh air.
