Book:THE BILLIONAIRE'S WIFE Published:2024-5-31

CHAPTER NINETY-NINE.
When Adele went inside Grandma Devon’s bedroom holding the important papers in her hand, she sat on the ground and tried to take control over her fear without seeking anyone’s help.
The best way she thought was to not think about it at all by trying to focus on other happenings around her, by diverting her line of thinking and vision.
Unfortunately, there was nothing interesting happening inside Grandma’s empty bedroom to take her attention, so she ended up just focusing on the dark brown closet and the flowery bed sheets while she tried to control her breathing as well.
Within a couple of minutes, she had successfully managed to get rid of all her symptoms.
The next step was to get out of Grandma’s bedroom and
ensure the servants and her bodyguards that she was okay because she didn’t want Jamal to know about anything that happened, since she won’t say a word the servants had to seal their mouths too. Her husband’s day had not been the greatest so there was no need to add to his concerns.
Actually, the reason behind her decision of not telling him about his father, the paper thing and her panic attack wasn’t just because she was trying to be a thoughtful and
considerate wife. She had other motives.
Her husband is not your typical forgiving and kind person who would put himself in the other’s shoes and try to see the situation with merciful eyes, I guess you well know now that he was absolutely not the kindest person. Whoever makes any mistake even if it’s small has to pay for it in Jamal’s opinion.
Since Adele knew her husband to be that kind of person, she felt so sorry for Mr. Leonard who spent years working
hard and faithfully. It would be such a loss for both him
and Jamal if he was punished for unintentionally dropping papers on the ground.
It was true that he dropped the very wrong papers at the very wrong time and in the wrong place. If it wasn’t for her sharp ears and intellect, a catastrophe would have occurred, but she already took care of the situation, so there was no reason for Jamal to kick his best assistant out.
In addition to that, she was curious as well to know why Mr. Leonard, who always seemed like a very serious and alert person, would commit such a silly yet grave mistake.
It was very out of his familiar behavior. There must have been a reason and Adele wanted to find out.
While Adele was thinking and planning what to do, she suddenly heard gentle knocks on the closed door behind her back.
She naturally turned to look at it, that’s when she heard the Mansion butler’s voice.
“Mrs. King, are you alright?”
Adele immediately held the papers tightly and stood up then opened the door. She found the old butler standing right in front of her, accompanied by a group of bodyguards.
“I’m good.” She replied after clearing her voice.
He looked at Adele with a worried face.
“I apologize for my absence earlier, Mrs. King, I
accompanied the young master to his car.”
Adele nodded in understanding.
“It’s ok, I just need you to make sure no one informs Jamal about my chat with his father. I want to be the one to tell him personally.”
“As you wish, Mrs King.”
Adele walked straight up to her room and after she got in and locked in, she practically ran to the bed to check the phone and see if Jamal had called her during the last few minutes of her absence and to her relief he hadn’t.
She genuinely felt endlessly happy because her husband didn’t notice she was missing and just forgot that she existed! Because that way he won’t know about what happened!
She enthusiastically unlocked Jamal’s safe, carefully put
the papers inside and then locked it again.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen. The always careful and alert businessman who trusted no one simply let his wife know the password to his most personal safe which was the one inside their bedroom.
He had more secure places because Adele doubt
such an easily accessible safe should be a place where
he’d hide his most confidential stuff, which would mean those papers were not totally safe there.
She knew she had to tell him about their existence when he returned home.
Adele then picked up her phone and called Jamal’s number to ask about Shannelle and how she was doing.
Jamal picked up the phone right away, then before she
even had the chance to accomplish her task of being a
good wife he began scolding.
“Adele! How many times in a day should I remind you to stop acting careless! The moment I look away you just disappear and put yourself in unnecessary danger! Bla bla, bla…”
Adele knew listening to her husband’s nagging was part of being a good wife too. She could have simply cut his words by announcing the reason behind her staying
behind and he would have wasted his energy thanking
her highness instead, but she knew that shortcut would cause other problems that neither of them were ready to deal with at that moment.
She closed her eyes and heaved out a heavy breath before responding.
” Next time, wherever you go my foot will be on your
foot! I will follow you like your shadow!” She replied sarcastically.
“You stay at the mansion right now. I’ll come as soon as I
speak with Shannelle’s doctor.”
“How is she?” Adele interrupted him.
“She’s fine. We are waiting for the doctor to come and give a report.”
“OK, you call me back once he informs you about
anything.”
Adele hung up the moment she finished saying those words because she was sure Jamal would start a second round of scolding if she didn’t.
————————-
Adele decided to sleep while waiting for his call since there was nothing else to do because if she knew if she stayed awake I would just starve. Neither of them ate anything the whole day long and it didn’t seem convenient to go to the kitchen and fill her stomach while my sister in-law was lying in the hospital in an unknown condition.
She slept until she was awoken by the sound of a knock on the door.
When she opened her eyes, two major events caught her
attention:
The first one was that she was famished.
The second was that it was her bedtime already.
So it was either Shannelle’s tests took a really long time to come out or the doctor took a really long time explaining them or her husband simply forgot to call her.
The forgotten wife, namely Adele, drowsily walked to the
the room’s door where she unlocked it and opened it.
The man who was standing in front of her didn’t show
any signs of regret or apology no matter how sternly Adele gazed at him in her drowsy state. He patiently waited for her until he felt like she had looked at him long enough before he walked in when she stepped aside to leave a space for him to enter the room.
“How is Shannelle doing?” She asked while crossing her hands on my chest and watching him change his clothes.
“She’s fine. The doctor said there is no reason for us
to worry, they will keep her in the hospital tonight for
observation.”
“Is mother staying with her?”
“Yes.” He replied tiredly. He finished putting on his clothes and pressed on his temples after closing the closet. “Grandma came back with me. She should be waiting for us in the dining room.”
Adele sighed helplessly.
“You’re very tired. You don’t have to go down. Just rest
on the bed while I ask the servants to bring you your
dinner here.”
“And you?” He asked and Adele smiled.
“I will be eating down with Grandma, of course. After you
finish eating alone, I suggest you open the safe and see
what I left for you.”
Adele stormed out of the room the moment she finished saying these words, without waiting for his response.
Sometimes, she felt like being a good wife to Jamal was such a useless thing to do!
