After a moment of confusion, I quickly turned around and ran back to the bathroom, complaining in frustration, “What’s wrong with you, Winson? I told you to knock on the door.”
After calming down for a while, Winson explained, “I did knock, but there was no response from inside the room. I didn’t know you were taking a shower. I swear, it’s true.”
Winson knocked on the bathroom door and whispered, “Natasha, Elly sent us something very important. Come out and take a look.”
Thinking of the words Winson wrote on the package paper this afternoon, I brightened up and said, “How can I go out? I don’t have any clothes. Go to my wardrobe and bring me a set of home clothes.”
“Okay,” Winson was diligent and went into the wardrobe to search for a while, finally picking out a fluffy pink home outfit.
He knocked on the door and I opened it slightly, grabbing the home outfit from him. I sat down on a chair and asked coldly, “What did Elly give us?”
Winson took out his phone and handed it to me. “It’s in here.”
I opened the video, and it was a self-shot video of Elly. The background seemed to be in her bathroom, and her voice was very soft, but every word was clear:
“Cousin, I know the person you’re looking for. When I was a child, my father took me out and left me alone in a hotel. When I sneaked down, I saw her…”
At this point, I paused the video and looked up at Winson.
He nodded and said, “Yes, you heard it right. Elly said she saw her. Keep watching, there’s even bigger news later…”
I looked back at my phone and continued watching the video. Elly whispered, “My dad used to call her Betty, so I didn’t know her last name until I saw your note today. Also, her relationship with my dad… seems unusual because I’ve never seen him treat a woman so well. Not only that, but he also cared about that woman’s son. My dad was very cold towards me before, and I even suspected that the child might be his illegitimate son, which is why he didn’t care about me as his daughter. But later on, I never saw my dad visit that person again, so the matter was never mentioned again.”
I felt my head spin. “Betty had a child?”
After a moment of eye contact with Winson, I said, “So, the information Auntie gave us yesterday was wrong. Betty didn’t pass away in the second year after leaving, and she had another child.”
Winson’s deep and narrow eyes fell into thought. “Auntie had no reason to lie to us, so what happened before Betty left should be true. Now I’m wondering if Betty is still alive.”
“If she is still alive, then either my dad and grandpa came back and deceived everyone, or Betty’s death was just a setup by her,” I agreed with Winson’s words. “Auntie said yesterday that after she followed Second Uncle, Betty became pregnant but had a miscarriage due to Second Uncle’s drunken mistake. Whose child is it?”
Winson remained silent for a long time before shaking his head. “It shouldn’t be possible. Would Eric be so diligent and treat that child so well?”
“You also suspect that the child is Eric’s illegitimate child?” I asked, gazing at him.
“Everything is unknown, but it is not impossible,” Winson said, his mood becoming solemn.
Nowadays, Betty is crucial.
As we discussed, I half-lay in bed and eventually fell asleep due to exhaustion. Winson went to the bathroom and got a towel to gently dry my hair before lying down on the bed, and at some point, we ended up entwined in each other’s arms.
When I woke up and saw his face looming in front of me, I was startled and cried out in surprise, scrambling out of his embrace. Winson was also awoken by my sudden movement and sat up, noticing that it was already bright outside.
“Natasha, last night… I don’t know how, but I fell asleep here,” Winson explained in a rush.
I couldn’t believe it. He always had trouble sleeping, so how could he not know how he had fallen asleep here?
Feeling irritated, I pointed to the door and muttered, “You need to leave now before someone finds out.”
Winson nodded and was about to leave when Bran pushed open the door from the outside, rubbing his eyes and calling out, “Sis…” But before he finished speaking, he caught sight of Winson in bed and his words trailed off into a surprised murmur, “Whoa…”
I knew from his expression that we were in deep trouble.
Bran pointed at the two of us before his gaze settled on Winson. He chuckled and said, “Hey Winson bro, what are you doing in my sister’s room? Did you guys… do anything last night?” He smirked suggestively at Winson.
Upon seeing Bran’s reaction, Winson couldn’t help but laugh. If only it were true.
I shot Bran a glare and said in a low voice, “What kind of nonsense are you thinking about? We didn’t do anything, we just talked about some things.”
“Oh…” Bran drawled mischievously, “I understand, I totally get it.”
“You understand nothing. Forget it, I don’t want to waste my breath arguing with you. Why are you here anyway?” I asked.
Bran grinned and pointed downstairs. “I just went down to get some water, and Mom asked me to check what you guys want for breakfast.”
“Just anything is fine,” I replied.
“Okay then, I’ll go tell Mom, and you guys… continue with your… conversation. I won’t interrupt anymore.” Bran chuckled before closing the door.
I rolled my eyes and turned to Winson. “When Bran asked you earlier, why didn’t you explain?”
As I spoke, I realized that the situation was definitely not easy to explain.
If she is alive, she must be found.
If she is dead, the cause of her death must be investigated.
Only in this way can he figure out Eric’s true intentions and give him a fatal blow.
