Chapter 195

Edward thought for a moment and said, “Alright, I’ll have someone bring some simple devices later to check and administer IV therapy.” Eric didn’t reject this proposal.
Eric’s phone rang and he went out to answer it. As soon as he closed the door, Edward was about to insert the needle to awaken Elly. However, just as he was about to do so, Elly suddenly opened her eyes.
Edward peered at her, realizing that she was faking her unconsciousness.
Ellison raised her hand to her nose, made a motion to signal him to be quiet, and quickly slipped a USB flash drive into Edward’s hand. In a low voice, she said, “Give this to my two cousins.”
Edward nodded and put the USB flash drive in his pocket. He glanced warily at the door and asked in a low voice, “How are you?”
“I’m fine. The blood in the restroom was mixed with dye. But I’ll continue pretending to be sick for a while. Can you help me delay my father for a few days?” Ellison asked.
Edward nodded. “Don’t worry. When I arrived, Winson told me that you can continue pretending to be sick, but you must eat something. Your anemia is severe.”
Ellison felt grateful for Edward’s concern and nodded slightly, her eyes filled with sadness.
Edward felt sorry for the young woman, who was pregnant but unable to care for her child. It was a terrible torment for a mother.
He comforted her, “Don’t worry, during this time, I will also find time to help you take care of your child. I…”
But before Edward could finish, Elly’s face turned anxious, and she interrupted him, “No, don’t go.”
Upon hearing her impulsive protest, Edward furrowed his brows slightly.
“You came here to treat me, but if you go to my cousin’s place afterwards, my father might think differently. He might not even let you help me with my medication in the future, and then I won’t have anyone to pass messages through,” Elly explained seriously.
Edward looked at her in confusion, “Is it just because of that?”
Elly nodded earnestly.
… Footsteps could be heard outside the door, and Edward patted Elly’s arm.
She immediately closed her eyes.
Eric then walked in, seeing that everything was normal, he went over to the side to watch Edward’s actions.
It wasn’t until after the IV was finished that Elly finally slowly opened her eyes.
Edward didn’t say much, and told Eric, “Elly is awake now. Make sure to give her proper nutrition as she is severely malnourished. I’ll be heading back today, you and your daughter can talk things out.”
“Alright. Edward, thank you for your hard work today,” Eric replied gratefully.
“It’s okay, I’ll come back tomorrow to help her with the IV,” Edward said.
After Eric had someone send Edward away, he stood next to the hospital bed and pointed at Elly’s face, scolding her, “Elly, let me tell you, you better stop acting out. It’s useless. I’m going to marry you to someone I approve of! I made a promise to someone else, and I must keep it.”
Hearing this, Elly felt a wave of pain in her heart and stared at Eric, asking, “Who do you want to marry me off to?”
Eric remained calm, “You don’t need to worry about that. Just wait until it’s time to get married.”
Elly tightly held onto the bedsheet, angrily saying, “But I can’t wait until that day. I just want to die now, and I don’t even want to look at you.”
Eric’s face didn’t even twitch at Elly’s suicidal thoughts, he coldly stated, “Even if you try to kill yourself, I’ll make sure Edward keeps you alive and marries you off.”
Hearing this, Elly felt like she had been thrown into hell, but in front of her father, she gritted her teeth and resolutely declared, “I won’t let you have your way. My fate will never be in your hands!”
“So, you’re rebelling against me, huh?”
Eric sighed in frustration, “You don’t believe me? Then go ahead and try.”
He turned around and left the room.
Elly heard Eric scolding the servants outside the door as he said, “Make sure you keep a close eye on her. If anything goes wrong, I will hold you responsible with your life!”
She closed her eyes in despair, wondering why other fathers regarded their daughters as precious treasures, while her own father only saw her as a bargaining chip.
After Edward returned to the room, he immediately called Winson to explain the situation. He sneered and said, “What’s the use of being a sly old fox? He was still played by you, a little fox. I have to admit, Elly’s acting was really convincing, and she played her part well. Just you wait, buddy. I will copy the files from the USB and send them to you right now.”
“Okay, thanks for your trouble,” Winson replied.
Edward opened the files and was pleasantly surprised by their contents.
The message Winson left on paper for Elly today was: “Check if there is any trace of someone named Betty leaving behind anything.”
Winson didn’t really expect Ellison to have results so quickly, but he thought it was worth a try. After all, even the worst people understand love. If Eric really loved Betty, he wouldn’t be able to bear destroying everything about her. Therefore, Eric’s place was the only place where traces of Betty could be found. Of course, if Eric’s love was mixed with impurities, that would be a different matter. But now, Elly had given him a good answer.
He picked up his phone and walked quickly to my room, knocking on the door. There was no response from inside.
After a few seconds, Winson turned the doorknob. The door wasn’t locked, and as he walked into the room, he saw me coming out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
Winson was surprisingly mesmerized and unconsciously swallowed his saliva.
