As we discussed, I half-lay in bed and eventually fell asleep due to exhaustion. Winson went to the bathroom and got a towel to gently dry my hair before lying down on the bed, and at some point, we ended up entwined in each other’s arms.
When I woke up and saw his face looming in front of me, I was startled and cried out in surprise, scrambling out of his embrace. Winson was also awoken by my sudden movement and sat up, noticing that it was already bright outside.
“Natasha, last night… I don’t know how, but I fell asleep here,” Winson explained in a rush.
I couldn’t believe it. He always had trouble sleeping, so how could he not know how he had fallen asleep here?
Feeling irritated, I pointed to the door and muttered, “You need to leave now before someone finds out.”
Winson nodded and was about to leave when Bran pushed open the door from the outside, rubbing his eyes and calling out, “Sis…” But before he finished speaking, he caught sight of Winson in bed and his words trailed off into a surprised murmur, “Whoa…”
I knew from his expression that we were in deep trouble.
Bran pointed at the two of us before his gaze settled on Winson. He chuckled and said, “Hey Winson bro, what are you doing in my sister’s room? Did you guys… do anything last night?” He smirked suggestively at Winson.
Upon seeing Bran’s reaction, Winson couldn’t help but laugh. If only it were true.
I shot Bran a glare and said in a low voice, “What kind of nonsense are you thinking about? We didn’t do anything, we just talked about some things.”
“Oh…” Bran drawled mischievously, “I understand, I totally get it.”
“You understand nothing. Forget it, I don’t want to waste my breath arguing with you. Why are you here anyway?” I asked.
Bran grinned and pointed downstairs. “I just went down to get some water, and Mom asked me to check what you guys want for breakfast.”
“Just anything is fine,” I replied.
“Okay then, I’ll go tell Mom, and you guys… continue with your… conversation. I won’t interrupt anymore.” Bran chuckled before closing the door.
I rolled my eyes and turned to Winson. “When Bran asked you earlier, why didn’t you explain?”
As I spoke, I realized that the situation was definitely not easy to explain.
Winson had a calm expression as he said, “At this time, appearing in your bed, it’s easy for people to have strange thoughts. If I try to explain, it will only make things worse.”
“Making things worse is still better than not explaining at all, isn’t it?” I replied.
I rolled my eyes and got out of bed. “You should go back now, don’t let anyone see you!”
Winson’s lips curled up slightly.
When I went downstairs for breakfast, Winson, my parents, and Bran were already there. I sat across from Winson and noticed that my family was looking at him a little strangely.
I glanced at Bran, feeling annoyed that I didn’t tell him not to talk too much this morning. It was so awkward now and I couldn’t not explain, or it would be like having something to hide.
Quickly finishing my breakfast, I stood up and said, “I’m going now.”
Bran looked at Winson seriously and said, “Winson bro, my sister is getting shy.”
Mr. and Mrs. Murphy also turned their gaze towards Winson’s face. Winson smiled at them, but he had no intention of explaining himself any further.
At noon, his assistant arrived to give Winson a brief report on the difficulties Sasha had encountered in her recent work. After finishing, and seeing that his assistant had no plans to leave yet, Winson asked, “Is there anything else?”
The assistant hesitated for a moment, then walked to the door and locked it before returning to Winson. He lowered his voice and said, “There’s something else, and I’m not sure if I should report it to you.”
“Go ahead,” Winson urged him.
The assistant hesitated for a moment, then took out three photos from his bag and handed them to Winson. “There may be some misunderstandings with regards to these photos, so please don’t be too hasty in your judgment.”
Seeing his assistant’s serious expression, Winson himself began to feel a sense of urgency. “What are these photos? Why are you being so careful?”
The assistant explained that the photos were taken by someone who had been following Eric the night before. They had been given to him that morning, and he had verified their authenticity. However, he had no way of knowing what Eric and the person in the photos had talked about.
As Winson looked at the photos and saw Philip in them, his expression grew tense. Philip spoke up, “The photos were taken without our knowledge. I found out this morning and had them verified. I don’t know what they talked about either.”
Winson held the photos in his hand and stared at the face of Philip, who was sitting opposite Eric and chatting with him. He had never ordered Philip to meet with Eric, so why had he done it? There must be some personal matter that had nothing to do with him.
He placed the photos on the table and calmly said to his assistant, “I understand, you can go now.”
As the assistant nodded and left, Winson picked up the third photo and looked at it closely. Suddenly, the words his aunt had said came rushing back to him. In the autopsy report after his uncle’s death, it was found that there were large amounts of sleeping pills in his system. But why would he take so many sleeping pills? There was only one possibility: someone had put them in his food or drink.
At the time, Philip was the only butler who was serving his uncle. He was in charge of his food and daily life.
