Sylvia smiled, and when she did, she looked beautiful. Her eyes were bright and clear like the crescent moon in the sky. “What’s wrong? Did something happen that I don’t know about?”
Clare felt a wave of heat on his face as embarrassment washed over him.
On the other hand, Corey was calm. “My nephew and I just witnessed something disgusting in the garden. We wish we could unsee it.”
Before he could finish his sentence, Niamh and Chaya rushed over.
“Grandaunt, you have to help us!”
“Grandaunt, we are your grandnieces! She framed us!”
“Yes, it was her,” Niamh cried with tears in her eyes. “I was walking peacefully in the garden when she drugged me and put me together with Joseph to do that kind of thing…”
“My sister is always a ladylike socialite who never leaves home or goes out much,” said Chaya insincerely while wiping away nonexistent tears. “Recently she learned embroidery because she knew you liked it.”
Queena had a headache; everyone seemed to be looking at her.
Clare glared at the sisters; they were foolish beyond belief.
“Weren’t you two supposed to leave?” He didn’t want their relatives in the hall knowing about this incident; he would talk privately with Sylvia later on.
But these sisters ran out themselves loudly proclaiming everything; they wanted to make things worse than they already were! It’s so embarrassing! Now everyone knows what happened with Niamh – how infuriating! These two sisters are so stupid!
As expected of such foolishness from these sisters – immediately attracting everyone’s attention as people looked around confusedly trying to figure out what happened.
“You must be dating Joseph,” reminded Corey softly as he tried not let them say anything more stupidly than before.
However, his cousin glared angrily at him saying. “Who is dating him? How can someone like him match up with me?”
“Grandaunt,” cried tearful Chaya while pointing fingers accusingly towards Clare. “Joseph bullied me inside garden earlier today after Sylvia drugged me without my knowledge… I’m innocent.”
A slap fiercely hit Niamh’s face, Clare couldn’t bear it anymore and gave Niamh a slap.
He was so angry that his face turned extremely dark, and he stared at Niamh fiercely. “Do you still think it’s not embarrassing enough? You have no self-restraint or shame, and yet you dare to come here and accuse Miss Andrews.”
Niamh was startled and her face hurt terribly. She felt as if Clare was going to smash her cheeks.
She was so scared that she almost forgot to cry, and just stared at Clare blankly.
She had never seen Clare so angry, so cold. The man exuded a daunting aura from head to toe.
It made her suffocate, and her heartbeat almost stopped.
“Uncle,” she murmured, trying to explain, but Clare gave her a cold glance and said to Niamh, “Take her back now!”
At this moment, Cael rushed over and angrily shouted at Clare, “Clare, this is my daughter. Who are you to discipline her? If you want to discipline a daughter so badly, go have your own!”
“Yeah, what’s the point of disciplining someone else’s daughter? Her dad is still alive and well, it’s not your turn to be her uncle and discipline her!” Rylie also shouted.
“Why? Just because I am the owner of Hipps Manor. If you do something wrong on my territory, can’t I discipline you? What’s the difference between that and shitting on my head?” Clare spoke very rudely.
Queena frowned as she watched the farce unfold, and spoke in a low voice, “What’s all this fuss about? The Hipps family owes their success to Sylvia and Mr. Maskelyne. Your bickering here shows no respect for Sylvia! You’re not respecting my most important guest!”
“Why are you two sisters so troublesome?” Queena was very unhappy.
Although she didn’t know the ins and outs of the situation, her intuition was biased towards Sylvia. “You’re grounded for two weeks and your allowance was confiscated for three months.”
“You are punished to embroider for three months and copy the Buddhist scriptures one hundred times a day. You are not allowed to sleep or eat until you finish copying.”
Queena gave a direct order, and it was still a punishment command.
Everyone looked at Queena in shock, unable to believe what they were seeing.
Chaya and Niamh, the foolish sisters, were immediately stunned.
Embroidery for three months and copying Buddhist scriptures 100 times a day, just these two things alone were unbearable for them.
They wanted to learn about the demeanor and behavior of socialites, but they didn’t want to become traditional housewives!
Especially when copying Buddhist scriptures, they had to use a brush to copy them, and their brush strokes were crooked and twisted…
“Grandaunt, no…”
“Grandaunt, you haven’t even investigated and you’ve already decided that Sylvia is not at fault? On what basis?”
“You’re just biased. You’re too biased. What’s so good about her? Uncle is also biased towards her, and so are you.”
The two sisters were still arguing with a dissatisfied expression on their faces.
Old Mr. Hipps was so angry that he slammed the table. “Two embarrassing things! Get out of here! Quickly, butler, send them away.”
It was really shameful.
“If it weren’t for Sylvia and Mr. Maskelyne, our Hipps family would not exist anymore. I advise you to show some respect for Sylvia. If this kind of thing happens again in the future, don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”
Old Mr. Hipps usually didn’t like to argue with these younger generations.
Now such a disgusting thing happened on Clare’s homecoming day; he was so angry that his head hurt.
These two girls’ brains couldn’t support their ambitions at all; their ambitions were written all over their faces but unfortunately they were stupid enough to do something like this.
The two daughters were about to be dragged away by the family servants when Cael’s wife Monroe tried to socialize with other relatives of the Hipps family but failed miserably.
She thought in her heart. forget it; it doesn’t matter if you look down on me now because when I move into the mansion tomorrow and live together with you guys as equals then we’ll see who’s boss!
After thinking this way she wasn’t as restless anymore.
When she returned to the living room she saw a scene that shocked her jaw off its hinges. Old Mr. Hipps and Queena scolding her two daughters!
She was taken aback and quickly protected both daughters. “Uncle, Auntie, what are you doing?”
Rylie who was Monroe’s mother-in-law immediately vented all of her anger onto Monroe when she saw her come in. “How did you teach your children? Letting them do such things?! Now look what happened.”
Monroe felt dizzy – what had happened?
Why didn’t anyone tell me?
She had no idea what had happened – Her two daughters looked so pretty and attracted men easily which meant they could definitely marry into wealthy families in future…
While she was lost in thought Rylie started yelling at her again. “Niamh and Joseph did indecent things in garden where many people saw them! They have no shame!”
She is Cael’s mother. Her husband did not get the title of Count in the past, and he died early. The Hipps family won the title, and she had to move out with her child.
Now that there is such a big event in the Hipps family, everyone knows that they are all in it together. So when Old Mr. Hipps suggested that everyone move back, they were naturally very happy.
While Rylie was happy, she also felt a little sad. If her husband had inherited the position of Count back then, she wouldn’t have to be so low-key now.
She and Queena are sisters-in-law but one is up there while one is down here. It’s frustrating!
It’s too frustrating!
Now her granddaughter has made a mistake and will be punished for it while she can’t even say anything as a grandmother.
The more she thinks about it, the more aggrieved she feels. She looks at Monroe more and more unpleasantly – how come her son has no ability to marry into a wealthy family? Monroe is just an upstart’s daughter who gave birth to two daughters without any grace whatsoever! They embarrass themselves every time they go out.
After hearing Rylie scold her like this, Monroe turned pale instantly. “How could this happen? Why?”
She looked angrily at her two daughters. “Why did you act on your own before discussing with me?”
Her head was buzzing now; after this matter spreads outwards what if it ruins elder daughter Niamh’s reputation? Who would want to marry into their family then?
The angrier Monroe got thinking about these things – how could she do such things with a man in the garden? Now Cael was furious; others would surely think there were problems with their household education.
She looked over at Sylvia who had remained calm all along – this woman must have malicious intentions if she dared harm my innocent daughter like this! Her daughter was so weak and helpless. She believed that only Queena could help them find good prospects for marriage! And now everything has been ruined by Sylvia!
Others may not believe in my daughter but I do – surely Sylvia did something behind our backs?
For now though we need to keep quiet about this matter – having sex with another man inside our own home… this is simply too embarrassing…
But…
As she was lost in thought, she noticed the disdainful looks from those around her.
Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be that everyone knew about this?
Cael was so angry that he swung his hand towards her face and shouted, “Apologize to Miss Andrews right now!”
Monroe was caught off guard by the sudden attack. She hesitated for a moment before remembering that Queena and Old Mr. Hipps were still present.
Her daughter had also been shouting that Sylvia had set her up…
