“You surely should eat something.” Cody sighed as he walked forth, “You’re pretty much bones and skins now, Thea. Did you give yourself strict diets again?”
Thea shrugged, “What can I do? Gonna look pretty for the cam.”
“You look pretty already.” Cody sighed.
“The girl’s actually a bit nervous when she gets into a new crew,” Zara added, “She doesn’t want to eat when she gets nervous.”
“Zara…” Thea pouted her lips.
“You should have booked her doctors when she had issues like that, Zara,” Cody snapped roughly, “That is the least you could have done as her agent. Do I need to teach you that?”
Zara went pale, “I’m so sorry, Sir.”
“Hey!” Thea’s hand shot out to grab Cody’s forearm, “Don’t blame Zara! It’s my fault for not accepting the appointment. The shooting was gonna begin, and we didn’t have much time to go to the hospital.”
Cody’s eyes fell on Thea’s delicate hand on his forearm, and his features suddenly softened a bit.
Thea took her hand away instantly as she noticed the slight change on his face. She looked away, blushing, “Anyway…. I’m still kicking and alive. I don’t want you to blame my people.”
“Okay,” Cody smiled, “I won’t blame anyone.”
Zara pulled at Daisy’s sleeve and gave the assistant an eye. And then, the agent cleared her throat, “Ahem… Sir, the pizza should be here soon. Daisy and I need to fetch it. The guards won’t allow the delivery man to come in.”
“Wait-” Before Thea could stop them, the click of the door just rang in her ears.
Cody seemed so much at ease after the two left. He took off his coat, folding it before putting it on the back of the chair, “I heard Kevin saved you?”
“Yeah.” Thea nodded, “My face would have been ruined if he didn’t come forth to save me. That was so dangerous…”
“You probably can’t go to the wrap-up party for the last crew when you look like this.” Cody sighed, but he didn’t sound like he was genuinely feeling bad for the fact, “I’ve sent Matt to inform the director. Oh, and the shooting, Ryan just said that you could take a couple of days off.”
Thea looked up, “But it’s just small cuts. I barely moved during the shooting. You know what 18th-century ladies do. They mostly just sat in the restroom and talked.”
Cody suddenly leaned forward and ruffled her hair. “Be a good employee, Thea Todd. Just take a couple of days off, and I’ll stay out of your way. I don’t want you to exhaust or hurt yourself.”
Thea blushed again, “Okay.”
Nope. She would definitely sneak back into the crew once Cody Bradley turned his back.
Candace and Daisy came back with food. The pizza was included, but most of the food was just healthy protein.
Cody sat down beside the bed and started to peel shrimp for Thea as she ate her dinner. Thea was a bit shaky as she forked a shrimp peeled by her Boss.
Did this include employee bonuses? If you fell off a cliff during work, would your Boss peel shrimp for you?
Daisy was also a bit surprised. But Candace just enjoyed her salad while scrolling her phone as if what happened before her was not some big deal.
“Holy shit! You’re trending again, Thea!” Candace suddenly yelled, still with a mouthful of lettuce in her mouth, “Someone posted the pictures where Kevin saved you during the accident.”
“Huh? So soon?” Thea’s mouth fell open, “Who posted it?”
Candace checked out the name of the account, “I think it’s one of Kevin’s big fans. She got a lot of followers. Wait… Could this be posted by Kevin’s team to hype him up? I mean… Saving your colleague during work is a pretty heroic move.”
Cody arched an eyebrow, “It’s possible.”
Kevin’s voice message came right at the moment, “Thea… I’m so sorry. It’s one of my stalking fans who managed to sneak in. She got that video where you fell. My team and I didn’t mean to leak any information about our injuries. I hope there won’t be any misunderstandings.”
Cody rolled his eyes, “And he thought he could fool everyone with that?”
Candace blinked, “So… His team did post that to make him look better.”
Cody shrugged.
“Well…” Thea didn’t seem to care as she chewed on her pizza, “He can hype it up if he wants to. I won’t stand in his way. He did save my life. I will be cooperative. In this circle, no one does anything for no reason.”
Cody turned to the girl and smiled, “You’re adapting to the environment pretty fast.”
“I’m a survivor,” Thea said coolly.
“You got a bit of mayonnaise on your chin, survivor,” Cody teased as he thumbed the little stain off.
Thea froze as if she was just hit by a bolt of lightning.
Daisy nudged at Candace excitedly.
Candace winked at the girl, suppressing a smile.
The Boss acted as if nothing had just happened as he took Candace’s phone to watch the video Kevin’s fan had just posted.
He thought he was not that mad after spending a while in Thea’s ward. But his eyes went dark the moment he saw Thea fall off the cliff.
He felt his heart wrenched at the scene.
Cody threw the phone away, and he noticed his left hand balled up into a fist subconsciously.
“Who was in charge of the equipment used on the shooting,” Cody tried to make himself appear to be calm and controlled, but his voice sounded angry to his own ear, “Did you guys find out yet?”
Candace shrugged, “They did. And that guy was just hired from another crew before he joined this new film.”
“What is the name of that show?” Cody asked.
“Redline,” Candace said a-matter-of-factly, “Paris Dunn is the female lead. I can’t help thinking about the connection. I mean, that woman made a fool out of herself when she tried to sabotage Thea last time. Is this another attempt of hers? Because if it is… It’s pretty obnoxious. She’s getting from being jealous to getting murderous.”
“Paris Dunn?” Thea’s mouth fell open.
“That woman again?” Cody’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
Before he made up his mind, however, he suddenly turned to Thea, “What did you do to piss her off so much? There must be something that happened between you two before, right?”
Thea was pretty honest, “I used to be Derek’s girlfriend. You guys all know about this, right? That woman… She has a secret crush on Derek. She thought I was standing in her way.”
