Linford just nodded, “I’ll let Lana check this out when I go back to my office.”
“Lana?” Mrs. Weston’s eyes widened, “Linford, seriously, you really shouldn’t have let Lana work in your company. She’s a White family member, after all. She got her own company. I don’t think it’s appropriate.”
Cristelle could tell from Mrs. Weston’s tone that she didn’t like Lana at all. Linford stood up from the couch, “I know how to handle this, Mrs. Weston. You don’t need to worry about her. I really need to go now. You take care. Call me if you need me, okay?”
Mrs. Weston could only nod, knowing Linford could be extremely stubborn sometimes.
Cristelle and Linford went to take a look at their babies in their classroom.
Candace seemed happy playing with their friends.
They let out a long breath before they went back to their car.
“Candace seemed to be more outgoing than before. I can finally be less worried,” Cristelle smiled as she stared out of the window, “I’m so happy, and thank you, Linford. They would never change so much if you didn’t show up in our lives.”
Linford drove the car out of the driveway with a faint smile on his face, “You’re giving me too much credit, Cristelle. Candace would never have lost the ability to talk if I was with you guys back then. I’m just trying my best to make up for those years that I missed.”
Cristelle got a bit sad hearing his statement. She grabbed his hand, “But it’s still not late yet, is it?”
Linford smiled as he leaned over and left a kiss on the corner of Cristelle’s lips, “Be honest with me, Cristelle. Are you jealous because Lana is working in my company?”
Cristelle hastened to lower her gaze, “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
Linford laughed, “Even Mrs. Weston told me to stay away from Lana right now, and you said you didn’t understand what I’m talking about?”
Linford admitted this was a bit childish. But he just had to figure out how much she cared about him.
Cristelle blushed. She would lie if she told Linford that she didn’t care about it. But the way Linford asked her was too direct, making her embarrassed. So she pulled a face, “I don’t mind it. Why should I mind her presence? I thought you treated Lana as a sister. Humph? Did you lie to me all this time?”
Linford’s loud laughter rang.
“What are you laughing at?” Cristelle is suddenly annoyed by this man.
Linford instantly pulled the car over, “In fact, Lana almost became my sister-in-law.”
“Sister-in-law?” Cristelle’s eyes widened.
“Our families have been friends for generations. Clyde was quite close to her growing up. Me, Clyde, Drew, Lana, and Clara, used to be gang friends. Enzo seldom played with us because he was much older. We hung out a lot. Clyde and Lana had a crush on each other. But something went wrong, and Clara just got pregnant with Clyde’s baby. Clyde had no choice but to marry Clara. Lana thus left the country. She has only come back twice in several years. Once was during Clyde’s funeral and secondly this time.”
Cristelle didn’t say anything. She looked away.
“Cristelle,” Linford’s hand extended to Cristelle’s cheek, “I’m explaining things to you because I don’t want you to have any silly ideas. Lana’s just my childhood friend, but you’re my wife.”
“I haven’t accepted your proposal yet,” Cristelle hummed, blushing.
“No rush. Take your time to consider it,” Linford smiled, “But once you accept it, I promise you that you will never regret it.”
Cristelle shrugged and looked away again. And then, she suddenly leaned over and left a kiss on Linford’s cheek, “Drive. We should go home now.”
Linford received a call from his company, and he suddenly needed to go back to his office again. Cristelle could only go with him. She was stopped by Fritzi halfway and dragged into the Design Department for help.
Linford could only shake his head, knowing Fritzi wouldn’t let Cristelle go for the next three hours.
When Linford went into his office, Lana suddenly walked in, “Linford, I’ve tracked those people who posted the news. But we have a new problem now.”
“What problem?” Linford loosened his tie, asking casually.
Lana opened the laptop and pushed it toward Linford, “Anton’s studio just posted a statement explaining what happened in school. But some media started to make fake news again. Those people said that Anton was threatened and forced to publish the statement. They said a powerful family bent him and threatened to destroy his career. Those people didn’t mention the family name, but they are hinting at the Bradley family who did it.”
Linford skimmed the news, and he suddenly thought the whole thing was quite interesting, “Just leave it be for now. You don’t need to explain anything to anyone, no matter what those people say on the Internet.”
Lana couldn’t understand his reason, “Why? Are you gonna let them say whatever they want? What if they found out what happened in school?”
Linford coldly glanced, “You also know about the whole thing?”
“Yeah. Betty told us when she went home. It’s just some small conflicts between children. But those journalists intend to make things worse. They would call Candace a bully for the rest of her life if we don’t stop this news,” Lana seemed to be pissed off, “Are you gonna let this pass?”
Obviously, Linford would make those people pay for their big mouths.
But he knew this was not the right time. So he turned away dismissively, “Lana, you’re asking too much. Just do whatever I told you and leave the rest to me.”
Lana couldn’t believe it. The Linford Bradley she knew was not someone so soft.
She thought for a while before asking, “Do you have any plans hidden from me?”
Linford cast her a cold look, “Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t ask.”
Lana pouted, “Fine. I won’t ask again.” And then, she grabbed the laptop and walked out of Linford’s office.
Linford grabbed his phone and made a call. The call was picked up almost at the first ring.
Linford’s voice was cold and clear at this time, “Alfred, your vacation is over. It’s time to come back.”
Alfred was thrilled, “Yes, Boss!”
Linford turned on his PC after Lana left. Then, staring at the piece of news for a while, he suddenly tapped on his keyboard swiftly and sent a message out.
