Other kids exchanged weird looks. Cody Bradley was never a caring person. He seldom smiled when he was in class. When did he become so caring?
Debby was a member of Cody’s fandom. She stopped crying loudly as Cody got close to her, nodding quietly. Cody smiled as he wiped her tear-damped cheek with a soft tissue. And then, he held the little girl in one arm and took her out of the classroom.
Before Cody left the classroom, he turned to his stunned sister and smiled, “Don’t be scared, Candace. I’ll take care of this.
Thomas walked forth, “I’ll take care of Candace. You don’t need to worry.”
Cody nodded at his best friend and left the classroom with Debby.
Candace sighed. She regretted it so much. She shouldn’t have brought those things to school. Candace sat there alone for a while before putting the pair of scissors and needles into her bag.
Amy tried to comfort her, “It’s okay. Don’t be sad.”
Candace nodded as she took out her phone. Hesitant for a while, the little girl sent her dad the first message, “Dad, I think I’m in trouble. My scissors cut one of my classmates, and she bled. Cody just sent her to our teacher. What should I do?”
“Dad, I think I’m in trouble. My scissors cut one of my classmates’ brows, and she bled. Cody just sent her to the teachers. What should I do?” Linford reread Candace’s message repeatedly.
Linford’s head went blank for a second as Candace’s message sank into his thoughts. He grabbed his coat and went to the Design Department, “Cristelle, we need to pick up the babies.”
Cristelle was busy rechecking her work. She cast a glance at the clock, “We’ve still got 30 minutes left before school is over. Are you sure we need to go now?”
Linford grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the office, “Just follow me. I have something to tell you.”
“What? Candace hurt someone?” Cristelle couldn’t believe what she had just heard in the car, “But how? I told her to be careful with the scissors. Candace is such a sweet girl. She would never do that on purpose.”
Linford’s hands were on the steering wheel, trying to comfort her, “It’s just an accident. They probably got it wrong. Let’s go and take a look first.”
They arrived at the school a couple of minutes later. All the kids were still in the classroom. Betty dropped her gaze the moment Linford walked into the classroom, knowing she had made a serious mistake.
“Mom. Dad.” Candace ran forth.
Cristelle picked her up, “What happened, sweetie?”
Candace didn’t dare to meet Cristelle’s eyes as she explained the whole thing. She heard her phone beeped, and she put the scissors down. She only wanted to check out the message, and one of her classmates just got hurt.
Cristelle felt weird. Who would text her daughter when she was still in school? Candace only got her and Drew’s number in her contact list. Drew and Cristelle would never text her when she was still in school.
Cristelle cast a suspicious look at Linford.
Linford cleared his throat.
Cristelle was speechless. She sighed, “Let’s go check out on Debby first.”
Carrying Candace in her arms, Cristelle walked out of the classroom.
Thomas caught up with them immediately, “Mrs. Bradley, it’s not Candace’s fault. Please don’t blame her.”
Candace smiled at Thomas over Cristelle’s shoulder, feeling happy that her friend would stand up for her.
Cristelle smiled warmly at the boy, “Don’t worry, Thomas. I know how to handle this minor issue. You stay in the classroom and don’t run around.”
Joe only showed up at this moment. The young man looked quite embarrassed, “I just made it here. Sorry, I’m late. I heard there’s an accident.”
Cristelle held her daughter tightly, “Candace probably hurt Debby accidentally. We’re on our way to see Debby right now.”
Joe glanced at Linford, “I don’t think we should jump to the conclusion so soon. You guys go first. I need to take care of the class first.”
When Cristelle and Linford made it to the infirmary room, the doctor was sewing Debby’s wound.
“Linford, Cristelle, you guys are finally here,” Mrs. Weston looked nervous.
Linford cast a look at the bed, “How’s the kid?”
Mrs. Weston shook her head and sighed, “It’s quite dangerous. The doctor said the scissors almost got under her eyebrow and almost got into her eyeball. She was lucky enough it didn’t happen.”
“It was my fault. I should have taken care of the babies.” Peter blamed himself beside.
Linford turned around, “Please don’t say that, Peter.” He knew there must be some misunderstanding, “Have you informed the little girl’s parents?”
Peter nodded, “I just did. They are on their way here.”
Candace felt bad after hearing that. She curled up into a ball in her Mom’s arms.
Linford sighed and took the girl in his arms, kissing her hair gently. “It’s okay, sweetie. Don’t be scared.”
Candace sniffed against Linford’s chest, one hand clasping his shirt tightly.
Debby’s parents arrived soon. No one expected the little girl’s father to be the famous movie star, Anton Donny. Debby’s mother was quite beautiful. Her name was Dana, but her temper seemed to be quite explosive.
“Who did this to my daughter?” Dana couldn’t bear it as she saw her daughter lying unconsciously in bed, “She’s just a little girl. Who did this to her?!”
Candace was frightened, but she still raised her hand timidly, “So-sorry, Mrs. Donny. My scissors hurt Debby.”
Dana spun around, her gaze was cold and harsh, “You did this to her?”
Anton was more calm compared to his wife. He pulled his wife back, “Dana, don’t get too angry. We haven’t figured out the truth yet.”
Dana pushed his hand away and pointed at Debby’s brow, “Didn’t you see what happened to our daughter? Are you still taking the little girl as your own or not? You regret having us back, don’t you?”
Anton instantly frowned, “Of course not, Dana, just calm down, will you?”
“How can I calm down after what happened to my daughter? Do something, Anton! Don’t let me down again and again.” Dana cried.
It was so awkward in the room.
