Anna and Beth wanted to leave. But Mrs. Wayne saw the great opportunity. She pretended to have a mental breakdown and collapsed against the floor. Mr. Wayne went to help her up, but the old woman refused to stand up, “Pop… Pop, please… We know you’re the most impartial gentleman in this world. However, we need your advice on this. Your son is trying to make us the criminal for something he committed. We’ve never done such a crime, but we’re forced to take responsibility. This is so unfair!”
“Shut up! Woman!” Darwin bellowed.
Pop shot Darwin a stern look and the man instantly deflated.
The old man turned to Mrs. Wayne, “Mrs. Wayne, please feel free to state whatever you need to say.”
Mrs. Wayne sniffed, “The police have found out about the person who tried to harm Candace. But Darwin wanted to protect that person, so he said we should take the blame and admit the crime before the police despite the truth we didn’t do it.”
Pop narrowed his eyes, “Why did he ask you guys to take the crime?”
“Because…” Mrs. Wayne shivered as she began to spill the truth.
“Shut up!” Darwin went furious, yelling at Mrs. Wayne, and hastily cut her words. “Stop saying something stupid!!”
“Darwin!” Pop bellowed, his voice intimidating, “This is your last warning!”
No one could describe how disappointed Franco was right now. Candace was hurt, but Darwin still tried to cover up the truth.
This was absolutely disgusting. His own son allowed his great-granddaughter to suffer right under their nose.
“Because the person who sent Giselle to harm Candace is actually Clara!” Mrs. Wayne screamed, pointing a shaky finger at Clara, “She paid Giselle to do that! It was all her deed!”
Clara had been shivering since the moment she saw Charles in the room. She didn’t expect Mrs. Wayne to spill the truth out in front of everyone so easily. She went so pale that she looked like she was gonna faint at any minute, “You’re a fucking liar! Why would I hire someone to harm my family member?! This is ridiculous!”
No one expected things to turn out like this. Clara became the center of attention instantly. Beth wanted to defend her daughter, but she knew this was not the right time. So she shut up instead.
“What the heck is this?” Pop was so angry that he went plum. He turned to look at Charles, “Officer Charles, you’re the one who’s taking charge of this case. Could you explain this for us a bit?”
Darwin knew he couldn’t hide it from Clara anymore. So he went behind the desk and slumped like a defeated lion on the chair.
Linford poured a cup of tea and served it to his grandpa, “Pop, take a sip. I don’t want you to get too worried. My brother said he was going to take Cody back soon.”
Franco felt better as he heard his grandson and great-grandson were gonna come back soon. He gave Linford a sad look. This grandson of his always managed to keep things under his control.
Charles cleared his throat and handed all the evidence he and his team collected in front of everyone. And then, he said, “It just proved that Clara Bradley is the one who hired Giselle to abuse Candace. After Giselle was found out, she even killed Giselle.”
“No! You’re a fucking liar!” Clara screamed like a mad woman as she pointed at Mr. and Mrs. Wayne, “It’s not me! It’s them! They did it! I didn’t even meet Giselle before! How could I hire her to harm Candace!”
Mrs. Wayne screamed, “You snake! You designed the whole plan at the beginning! You meant to make us your scapegoat! You’d been contacting Giselle under our name. You only got hidden after the police found out the truth.”
Clara had the heart to slap her face in front of everyone. But she managed to hold back the urge, threatening with a hissing voice, “Keep lying, and I’ll tell everyone about what your family had done!”
Clara still thought she could make Mr. and Mrs. Wayne shut up because she knew their secret land.
Mr. Wayne knew now that things had been exposed, there was no way back, so he clenched his teeth, “Pop, my wife, is telling the truth. I was too greedy, and I refused to let the family wealth go. So I begged Darwin to get us the piece of land through his connection. I didn’t know how Clara knew about that, but she used that fact to threaten us. She said if we didn’t do as she said, she would expose the secret about how we got the land. I was scared, so I agreed. I feel regretful and ashamed. I shouldn’t have done that. Please, Pop. We swear that we are telling the truth!”
Pop was gonna have a heart attack as he glared at his useless son, “Good. Good for you, Darwin Bradley! You’re a public servant, and now you’re breaking laws to get what you want?”
Mr. Wayne kept saying, “The land should be used for agricultural development as per government policy. I bought it because it was cheap. I wanted to build a supermarket on it. But now, I’ve sold the land to another buyer. The buyer was about to build an agriculture base on it. That’s why I’m not scared to spill the truth anymore. We’ve never killed anyone, Pop. We also will never dare to harm your great-granddaughter. We’ve never tried to hurt your family. Even Zoe… Even Zoe did those silly things because she was fooled by that snake.”
Will he also tell everyone about the truth behind Zoe’s demise now? Clara panicked.
“Shut up! You shut up!” Clara screeched like a pig. The perfect image of that elegant, rich lady she’d tried so hard to maintain was gone.
