Linford got in the room at the moment, sitting down by Candace’s bed.
They enjoyed their meal together as usual.
After the meal, Linford received a phone call from Drew.
“My men saw Clara was with Mrs. Wayne in a suite. Now they have left the hotel. What should we do next?”
“Don’t make any drastic decisions yet. I don’t want her to notice us for now,” Linford didn’t sound like he was in a hurry at all.
Drew also wondered, “I’m also wondering if Mrs. Wayne would take the blame this time.”
“We will know their decision soon,” Linford said before hanging up the phone. He felt utterly disgusted whenever he thought about what that woman probably had done.
In the hospital, Drew fell silent after the call was over, holding onto his phone.
He couldn’t believe Clara had actually sent the attacker. Clara was their childhood friend, and she was also Clyde’s wife.
Why would she ever do this?
And there was another thing he could never comprehend. After Clyde passed away, Linford’s attitude toward Clara changed dramatically. For some reason, Linford just started to hate that woman.
“Did you catch the man who killed my sister?” Cindy asked. She was gaunt and lifeless. She looked like a corpse after days of distress and crying.
Drew always felt guilty when he faced this poor woman, “Not yet. We haven’t made sure yet. But… You don’t need to worry. We should find her soon.”
Cindy nodded numbly and curled up in the bed again. She couldn’t eat anything anymore after getting to know her sister’s death. The doctors had to help her get her nutrition through drips.
If Cindy knew letting her sister escape would kill her, she would never let her walk out of the ward that day.
But now, everything was late.
Drew didn’t know what accurate words to say to make her feel better.
He gently explained, “We will find out who used your sister soon. But it would help if you didn’t torture yourself. It will make Giselle sad. You must keep yourself healthy to make it to the day when we find the killer.”
Cindy shook her head, “No, you don’t even know her.”
Cindy knew Giselle hated her very much.
“We were twins, but we separated when we were 10. She stayed in the countryside with Granny, and I went to the city with Mom and Dad. Something happened to Granny during the time when I was about to study abroad. Giselle just disappeared after that. My parents had tried to find her. They had tried to find her for 20 years, but they just failed. I only got to see her again after coming back to this country very recently. I didn’t expect our reunion to be so short.” Cindy sobbed. The pair of glasses on her nose was fogged.
Drew gave her a box of tissues, “It’s probably just fate. She insisted on leaving that day. You can’t blame it all on yourself.”
Cindy froze at what he said all of a sudden. And then, she sat up, dull eyes staring at Drew as she screamed like a mad woman, “It shouldn’t be her fate! It should have been mine! I was the one who stole her scores and made my parents think I was the one who passed the exam! That’s why she was left in the countryside, and I got the chance to study abroad! I stole her life!”
So… That was the truth?
For the first time in his life, Drew felt genuinely lost for words. He stood there for a while and left the ward.
When he walked down the corridor, he heard someone screaming and shouting.
Drew frowned and went forward to check out. It turned out to be Diego and his mother.
Did they really come here? Seriously?
“This is a hospital! Have some decency!” Drew’s voice carried clear emphasis and sharpened down the corridor.
Diego went forward the minute he saw Drew, “Where’s Cristelle? I need to see her! Where’s Linford Bradley?!”
Drew only wanted to laugh. Who did he think he was? How could he ask something like this?
It was ridiculous!
“They’re both busy. So they have no time to see you. But I can take you to see another person,” Drew said sarcastically.
Mrs. Barnett looked like she was going to have a heart attack, “It must be a mistake. Pamela is quite dumb. But she’s not dumb enough to do something like this!”
Drew shrugged, “You don’t have to explain to me. I’m not involved with her problem anyway.”
****
Diego was the only one who was allowed to see Conner since he was an important witness.
Mrs. Barnett was left out. Drew only wanted to be done with them quickly so they could leave as fast as they could. He was so sick and tired of seeing these people right now.
Pamela had also been locked in jail, but she refused to say anything. No matter whether the person who went to question her was Diego or her lawyer. Diego didn’t know what that woman was thinking. Diego took this visit as an opportunity to figure out the truth.
But would Linford Bradley be this nice to give him this opportunity?
Did he have another purpose?
What did he want from him exactly?
When Diego walked into the ward, Drew followed.
What Conner said was pretty much the same as what he told Linford that day. But when Diego heard the part about Jasper, he instantly asked Conner to repeat it.
Conner didn’t know why Diego asked him to repeat that part, but he was quite pissed off. He hated the Barnett deeply. They had taken away his daughter’s scholarship grant, and now they showed up as the victims. It was disgusting.
“I’ve made myself very clear. Believe it or not. It’s still the truth.”
“You just said that the man you saw in the elevator was Jasper?”
“Yeah. I believe that is his name. He came here multiple times, trying to see Candace’s Mom. I thus have an impression of him.”
Diego stood up from his chair and walked out of the ward.
So, it had been that son of a bitch!
Mrs. Barnett went forward the moment she saw her son, “How was it? Is he gonna be the witness?”
