Drew happened to wander over at the moment, grabbing a burger as he heard what Fritzi said, “Why isn’t Cristelle here? She still doesn’t know about this?”
Alfred grabbed a cup of coffee and left. He clearly didn’t want to talk about what happened.
Fritzi sat on the bench and bit into a sandwich, “It’s quite complicated.”
“Do you mind explaining it a bit?” Drew asked curiously.
Fritzi chewed on her sandwich and told the story about what had happened yesterday.
“Love makes someone blind. I don’t even know how to get it straight,” Fritzi shook her head at the end of the story.
“That Johnson is a little cunning! Can’t you guys tell?” Drew couldn’t bear it when he knew his bro was bullied. He decided to talk to Linford a bit. So he wouldn’t end up so miserable as he thought Linford might be devastated at this moment.
Being that kind was not a good thing in a society as vicious as this one.

Cristelle spent the whole night taking care of Jasper in the hospital. After a couple of checkups, Cristelle got to know that he was actually pretty alright. She grabbed his prescription and decided to pay the bill. When she went downstairs, however, she somehow ran into Drew.
“Cristelle! Why are you here?” Drew asked, knowing why Cristelle was here very well.
Cristelle didn’t know how to explain the situation, so she sighed, “Well… It’s just a friend of mine. He had an accident yesterday, and I’m just here to take care of him.”
“What kind of friend is this friend of yours? It seems he’s so important to you.” Drew teased on purpose as he snatched that prescription away from Cristelle, “Tut-tut… I thought he was dying, but he looked just fine based on the prescription. He only got a couple of bruises and scrapes? Does he even need to go to the hospital?”
Cristelle frowned. She remembered Jasper couldn’t even stand up after falling from his horse yesterday, “But he couldn’t even walk.”
“Nope… I don’t think he hurt his bones, judging from this prescription. You don’t believe me?” Drew asked with a slightly angry tone.
Cristelle shook her head, “Of course, I believe you. It’s just… Maybe he has his reasons. He fell off his horse yesterday. I bet he was also terribly scared.”
Cristelle sighed and decided to keep walking, but Drew stopped her, smiling, “Cristelle, do you mind me asking a question? Who is this friend of yours? And why is he more important than Candace?”
Cristelle frowned, “Candace? What’s wrong with Candace?”
She thought Candace was only throwing a tantrum yesterday because she didn’t want to go to her dancing class.
“Don’t you know? Candace had a 10-hour operation yesterday. She almost lost her right leg.”
Cristelle went pale immediately, the prescription paper in her hand falling off. She went to grab Drew’s shirt, “Wha-What are you talking about? You… you must be kidding, right? How could anything like that happen to Candace?”
Drew shook his head, “I’m a doctor. Why would I joke about things like that? Candace was hurt very badly yesterday. And she was calling you in tears on her way to the hospital.”
“What… Candace.” All the blood was drained out of Cristelle’s face. She stumbled back and fell over, losing her consciousness completely.
“Cristelle!” Drew shouted.

One hour later, Cristelle finally woke up. She instantly started to look for her daughter when she opened her eyes, “Candace… Where’s Candace? I need to see her.”
Drew tried to stop her because she was too weak right now. But Cristelle still insisted on going.
Luckily, Candace was in the same hospital, and it didn’t take her too long to find her baby.
When Cristelle pushed open the door, Linford’s handsome face was the first thing she saw. Linford was sitting on the chair next to Candace’s bed, flickering through a pile of files.
Cristelle flinched as she saw Candace’s leg was hung up. The little girl looked extremely pale, and she was on a drip. Cristelle dashed toward the bed and cupped Candace’s face, “Candace… Honey… I’m so sorry that I’m late.”
“She just fell asleep. You’re waking her up,” Linford warned her coldly.
Cristelle instantly became careful as she sat beside the bed. She thought about the abnormal reactions of Candace these days. The girl had even asked her to go to the class with her at one point. But she had decided to tell the little girl to be independent.
She also hadn’t shown up right away when Candace was sent to the hospital.
Cristelle felt so guilty and so pissed off about herself.
What kind of mother was she?
The silence was prolonged. Both Linford nor Cristelle didn’t say anything. Candace only woke up at about 5.
“Mom… Mom,” The girl breathed but didn’t make a sound. Cristelle felt a sharp pain in her chest. She went forward immediately, “Honey… Mommy’s here.”
Candace turned her head and saw Cristelle. The little girl pouted with tears in her eyes and turned away, refusing to look at Cristelle.
Linford had asked people to prepare food for his daughter. He called the nurse and asked her to bring in the food.
Linford cranked the bed up and started to feed Candace some liquid food.
It broke Cristelle’s heart to see Candace acting like this. She must be so disappointed with her.
“Honey, slow down.” Cristelle wanted to touch Candace’s hair. But Candace dodged, refusing to let Cristelle touch her.
Cristelle was about to cry, “I’m sorry, Candace. It’s all my fault. I should have been with you yesterday.”
Candace was still so mad. She didn’t even turn to look at Cristelle.
Cristelle sobbed, “Candace, don’t you want Mommy anymore? Mommy will cry if you don’t want Mommy.”
Candace hesitated for a while and still turned around, giving Cristelle a kiss on her forehead.
Cristelle held her girl tightly, sniffing, “I’m so so sorry, Honey. I will never do this again. I promised.”
With her Mom and Dad around, Candace was finally less scared. She pointed at her leg, and it hurt so much. Cristelle tried to calm her down, “Honey, you can’t touch it. You will be fine in a couple of days.”
