CHAPTER 51- Amazing changes
I made Jay spend the night with me. I don’t want to be alone. The next morning I feel better. I still miss Hunter, but I don’t feel the pain from what he did. Except the ache in my stomach. It probably helps that I don’t have his scent anywhere. I get up and get ready to meet Gabe. I have no idea what he wants to show me but I have a feeling that I am going to like it. Gabe has been too sweet for his own good. Or rather my own good.
I am wearing a dress. I want to look good. I am tired of not looking it. I feel frumpy and I want to fix it. It’s a loose summer dress, which really is not appropriate for this weather but I don’t care. I grab a cardigan. And I am ready to go.
Jay walks me down. When we hit the last floor I see Hunter’s parents. They look worried and scared. I approach them. Giving them a smile. “I don’t blame you. I blame him. I know you are as hurt as I am. It’s ok.”
They both rush to hug me. “You were too good for our son.” Ryan says.
I laugh. “Yeah, I was.”
Cynthia cries a little. “We still want to be a part of you and the baby’s life.”
“I rejected Hunter, not you. She will still need to know her family. And let’s face it, I am going to need all the help I can get.”
Cynthia smiles. “She, you know already?”
“Call it intuition. When I know for sure you will be the first to know.”
They give me one more hug before they leave me.
I take a deep breath and turn back to Jay. He smiles. “That was really nice. I am sure you made them feel a whole lot better. It can’t be easy for you.”
“It’s not, but they didn’t do anything wrong, he did.” I shrug, it isn’t easy but I can do it for them.
I start walking again to the border. Maybe I am too nice. I should have made him suffer more. I should have made him feel the pain that I felt. But it just isn’t me. I can’t stoop to his level.
GABE’S P. O. V.
I pace the boundary nervously. She is going to be here any minute. I am so scared, what if she changes her mind. She doesn’t have to come anymore. I am wringing my hands, running my fingers through my hair. I haven’t been this scared since I found my mate and she rejected me. I have tried to build this wall up to avoid this very thing. Yet here I am again.
I turn and my pacing stops. There she is the exact vision of a goddess. The breeze blows against her making her dress flow a little behind her. I catch my breath. She is perfect. I am licking my lips again, I want to taste her skin again.
I see something shift in her. She takes a big sniff of the air. Then she seems to relax. Her head cocks to the side a little bit and smiles at me. I watch as she brushes a little bit of her hair behind her ear. I wake up a little and head towards her.
I smile a little at the way that she looks up at me. “Is this how you feel?”
“More.” I cup her face with my hands. She leans into it.
“How is this even possible?” She whispers.
I pull her closer. “I don’t know but I really don’t care. As long as you don’t reject me.”
She shakes her head. “I’m not. Mate.”
As soon as she said those words I took her lips with mine. “You don’t know how happy you just made me. Mate.” I rest my forehead on hers. “Where is your vampire?”
She nods her head towards the woods. “He is waiting a little further off.”
“Tell him to come. I want to show you something, but it isn’t here. We have to drive there.” I don’t let her go but I see her gaze drift. It takes less than a minute for him to arrive. He takes us in his sights. He doesn’t look shocked like I thought, only reserved.
“I am only going to say this once. You hurt her one time and you’re dead. I won’t let her go through that again.” He folds his arms over his chest to make his point. He is not fucking around.
“What kind of body guard would you be if you didn’t. Come, I want to show you something as well.” I keep my arm around Jasmine as I direct her to the jeep that I have a little ways off. Vampire boy follows close behind. He is watching all around us. I like him already, always on guard. He is going to take good care of her. I am going to like this guy around.
Once we are all loaded up I pull the jeep into the trail. I will be glad when I can finally put in the roads. It takes us about ten minutes to get there, a very bumpy ride too. I cringe every time she takes her belly in her arms. “I am so sorry. I am going as slow as I can. Does it hurt too bad?”
She shakes her head. “It wouldn’t hurt at all if it wasn’t for Hunter.” She growls out his name. Good she hates him as much as I do.
As it comes into view I see her face light up. “Is that your house?”
“No Darlin’. That is our house. I had it commissioned as soon as I knew you were the one for me.” I park the jeep right out front. “I want to show you everything.”
I come around to her side and open her door for her. The vampire gets out and looks over the house. “Well, I guess it is big enough.” I can tell he is joking, the house is massive. I wanted it that way.
I take Jasmine’s hand and pull her into the house. “It will be our own house.” I direct her in the open area in the front of the house. “Plus your guard.” I nod to the vampire. I pull her towards the sitting room. She loves it I can tell. I picked things that I knew she would like. There are many tall plants, making it look more like a forest. Her favorite color is green. I wanted to make sure that everything was in accordance with that. She spins around in the room taking it all in. The white walls with a green trim.
“It is wonderful. How did you do all this?”
I smile. Pleased that she likes it. “It wasn’t easy but I wanted you to have the perfect home.”
I show her around to the rest. I show the vampire to his room which is downstairs. It is plain at the moment, but I tell him that it can be arranged however he would like. They are his private quarters. I don’t know much about him so I really couldn’t do much there. The only one who seems to know him is Jasmine.
Last I took her to the bedrooms, showing her first the one that I wanted to show her the most. I can’t take it anymore. She needs to see it. When I push open the door she gasps. The room is covered in white and wolf pups. From the crib bedding to the mural that I had painted of pups playing. She steps into the room, running her hand along the changing table and the rocking chair. I see a tear fall down her face. “You did all this.”
“I told you, I want all of you. That includes this baby. The next one will be mine.” She turns and runs into my arms.
“It’s perfect.” She is crying a little. “Gabe it is all so perfect.”
“I want to spend a little time with you here if you don’t mind. Maybe just a day at first. Get you to know me a little better. Maybe make sure you don’t reject me.”
I watch as her gaze shifts. It is a full minute before she comes back to me. “I told Jay to go back to the pack house.”
I pull her closer to me. “You are going to stay with me.”
“Yes. I want to know you.” Her tiny frame can barely circle her arms around my bulky frame. I hear the front door close a moment later. We are alone. Just the two of us, in our house.
“I have one more room to show you.”
I take her hand and pull her to the room next door. I push it open and show her the room. In the middle is a massive king size bed. Two matching dressers of a dark chestnut. A walk-in closet. An ensuite bathroom. I have a bassinet set next to the bed. All the bedding is a dark green color. I like darker colors, but she likes green so I combined them. A vanity sits on the far wall for her, also a dark chestnut color.
“How long were you putting this together? It had to be longer than three days.”
She bites her lip and I want to devour her. “I first saw you six months ago. I knew then. I was running, and had no real destination. I crossed your boundary. I know I wasn’t supposed to, but I saw you running. Your wolf was beautiful, but your scent hit me and I couldn’t shake it. I stalked you and watched you shift. As soon as I saw your face, I just knew you were it for me. I made sure that the wolves that attacked didn’t hurt anyone. I just needed to get your attention. I never had any intention of taking your pack. I just wanted to be with you. When my spy told me that you take over the pack while your father is gone. I had to think of a way to get him gone. Since I couldn’t come up with anything, I meant to only hurt him a little. I went too far. I don’t know if you can forgive me for that. I pray that you do.”
“I also started hearing about that guy. How he treated you. The rejection. The betrayal. I hoped that I could get you to see me before you took him back, but I wasn’t fast enough. I don’t think he was ever meant to stay your mate. I think it was always supposed to be me in the end.” As soon as I finish I hold my breath waiting for her response. I just poured myself out to her. I need her not to reject me.
“I heard that your mate rejected you. Why?” She cocks her head to the side in curiosity.
“She said I wasn’t good enough for her.” I shrug. “I don’t know anything beyond that.”
She runs to my arms again. This time she kisses me. “I am not going to reject you. But we have to make a deal.”
I hold her close to me. “What kind of deal?”
“You can’t attack packs anymore. No more expanding territory. You have to be here with me.” She squeezes me close to her.
“I will only attack packs as a defense. I have what I need now.” I smile at her. “I have you.” She kisses me again. I never thought I would feel this happiness. After everything that I have been through, I have the most perfect heart to pair with mine. To fix the brokenness that was left behind by others. I want to pick up the broken pieces of her heart as well.
I feel like our lives are now complete.
