CHAPTER 50- Reports
GABE’S P. O. V.
My reports start coming in. Frantic messages. She is hurt. I start growling. “What the fuck happened to her? She was fine when she left me.”
My spy looks at me like I am going to rip her arms off. “Sorry sir, I don’t know for sure. I know that she was in a lot of pain and Dr. Williams started ordering the Vampire down to the cells. Said that he needed to stop the mate. Then after Dr. Williams checked her over, she left and went to the cells too. She started to head to the woods, then the vampire and the Alpha from the other pack convinced her to go back to the pack house.”
I slammed my fist into the desk. “Damn it. I think I know what that asshole did. She must have been in so much pain. I’ll kill him if I see him again. Where is she now?” My beast is fuming. I keep saying it’s my beast that is angry, but it is me. I am pissed. I have wanted her since the first time I saw her. That is why I went light on her pack, had my wolves watch her and report all of her moves to me. I will never forget that day in the woods when I caught her scent for the first time.
“In the pack house with the vampire. He hasn’t left her side.”
“He just better not think of taking what is mine.” I growl.
“I think he is just being her friend. She is very upset right now. The other Alpha was comforting her too. The biggest concern was the baby. Dr. Williams says it is fine though.”
“I am going to write a letter and you are going to deliver it.” I motion for her to sit. She hesitates but compiles.
“Won’t that out me as the spy?”
“Yes, but she won’t hurt you. I can tell. Just do as I say.” I sit at my desk and compose the letter that will hopefully lead her to me.
JASMINE’S P. O. V.
I am sitting in my room, per Jay’s instruction I am sitting. I want to help the purge too. But instead I am sitting here pointing Jay around the room telling him what to take out. All of Hunter’s things. I want them all gone from the pack house. The blankets from the bed need to be gone too. Everything in here smells like him. I want it all gone. Even the couch.
When I point to the end tables Jay looks at me like I can not be serious. “I am serious. I want them gone. Pretty much anything that he used I want gone. That includes these tables.”
There is a knock on the door. I am sure the pack is worried about me. I was rushed to the clinic and right after my father, I am sure they are concerned. Jay is about to protest when I stand to answer the door. “I can answer a damn door Jay.” I say as I open it. It’s the clinic nurse. She looks nervous. “Hello Paige. Can I help you with something?”
She holds out a shaky hand, clutched in it is a letter. “This is for you.”
I am guessing it is from Dr. Williams, but why does Paige look like I am going to sentence her to death. I take the letter from her hand. “Thank you.”
I expect her to leave but she doesn’t, “I am directed to wait for a response.”
I nod. “Would you like to come in and have a seat then? We are just purging.”
“Thank you Alpha.” She bows her head respectfully to me.
She moves by me slowly, still clearly scared of something. I don’t like that she is so worried. I point to the bed so I can sit at the desk. With the couch gone I can’t offer that. I take the letter and start opening the seal. As soon as I unfold the letter I know who it is from and it is not Dr. Williams. “How did you get this letter?” There is an edge to my voice. I don’t want it to be there, but it is pretty obvious how she got this letter.
“It’s true Alpha. I have been reporting to him. Nothing that would hurt the pack.”
I grit my teeth. “Just about me.”
She nods her head. Jay growls. “How could you betray your Alpha like that?”
I put my hand out to stop Jay. “Stay seated.” I told her. I will read the letter and then talk to Gabe before I decide on a punishment for Paige.
Darlin’
I heard that you were hurt today. I am very worried for your wellbeing. I need assurance that you are as well as is being reported to me.
I know what that mate of yours did. Let me assure you that I had no idea it would go that far. I knew that he was visiting the cells but I didn’t think he would actually hurt you. If I had known I would have killed him the other night. Or at least warned you.
I am worried about how you are holding up. Please send a response. I would still like to meet with you tomorrow if you are feeling up to it. I would come to you, but I don’t think that the pack would let me through the border. Also I have something I would like to show you.
As of right now the deal is off. I am not going to attack your pack again. I still want you. Please see me. I don’t want to force you any more.
Please don’t punish Paige too severely, you know how persuasive I can be. I will explain later.
With all my love.
Gabe
I stare at the letter. Did he really say that he isn’t going to attack the pack anymore? Jay comes to my side. “What does it say?”
“He says he isn’t going to attack the pack anymore. He is backing down.”
“That’s great news. Why do you look like the shock of a lifetime happened?” He puts his hand around my shoulder.
“He still wants to see me.”
“Oh,” He knows what I am getting at. I am in turmoil. Hunter ripped my heart out. “Well, it is your call. What do you want to do?”
“Does it sound weird that I want to see him?” I ask looking down at the letter again. “He was sweet to me. Maybe a bit forceful, but he just wanted to be with me. Then there is the thing with Dad, that is a bad one.”
Jay makes me look up at him. “Give him a shot. He can’t be worse than Hunter. At least he was honest with you.”
I chuckle at that, even though it hurt to think that way, it was true. Gabe has always been honest.
I lean over the desk and pen a quick reply.
Gabe,
I will meet you tomorrow. Jay will carry me so I can make it. I am fine though, the doctor just wants me to rest. So, don’t kill him.
Jasmine.
I fold up the note and hand it back to Paige. “Deliver the note. We will talk later.”
She bows to me. “Thank you Alpha.” She takes the letter and shuffles off. I turn back to Jay. “Let’s continue with the purge shall we.”
Jay smiles. “I am more than happy to get this man out of your life.”
I look sorrowful. “I still have one major thing to do. I have to reject him before I meet Gabe tomorrow.”
Jay nods, with a neutral expression. “It is for the best. He needs to be out of your life.” He pats my back.
“Take me there now. Before I think too much about it.” I look up at him.
He tightens his lips but nods.
Once we reach the cells again I start to lose my resolve. Hunter looks pathetic in that cell. I don’t want to be here. “Hunter.” I call his name. He looks over at me with tears in his eyes. How long has he been crying?
He gives me a half smile. “I love seeing your face, baby.”
“I don’t want to hear it. You know why I am here. I want you to accept it this time. There is no going back.” He nods.
“I love you baby, before you do this. Just know that I really do love you.”
I shake my head. “No you didn’t. You can’t love me and her at the same time. That isn’t how love works. I really loved you though. That you can bank on. It was only you for me.” I sigh and take a deep breath. “I, Jasmine Blackwood, reject you, Hunter Greenfield.”
I see him coil up in pain. I want to take it back. I don’t want to see him in pain. He rolls over and smiles at me. “At least you did it this way. You could have made me suffer more. I accept your rejection.” I feel a wave come over my body. It’s gone. I feel empty. “I miss you already.” He whispers.
I leave crying. That was the hardest thing I have ever done.
