CHAPTER 28- Avoidance sucks
HUNTER’S P. O. V.
Definitely not how I thought this morning was going to go. Her dad is sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee. “I thought you guys had worked it out. I mean you were locked in there for a whole day.” His voice carries over to me.
“Yeah, I thought so too, until this morning she just kicked me out. I don’t know what it is going to take. I’m not giving up. I need her, I know she needs me too. She is just being a stubborn mule.” I made sure to yell that last part. I turned to head down the stairs to my room. I need a shower before school. I will be in that car with her, right next to her in that seat. Let’s see what she does about that. If only I could get rid of Allison, I am sure that is going to make it awkward.
I dress quickly to get downstairs before she tries to trade seats with Allison. I know that is going to be one of her thoughts. I am waiting out there before anyone else gets there. Jay comes out after me. “Dude, I really hope you guys worked it out yesterday. If I hear Allison brag one more time about how she broke you guys up, I am going to kill her.”
“Sorry, I thought we did, but she flipped on me this morning.” I grimace at the thought that Allison really wants me that much. I thought she would move on.
“Damn. You still smell like her, you know. What the hell did you do with her yesterday?” He is giving me a look that says he knows full well what we did, but he is asking out of curiosity.
“I never kiss and tell. The point is she is still pissed. I don’t know what else I can do. Right now I just need to make sure that she sits next to me in the car. I have to keep trying. If you have any ideas I am all ears.” I sigh. I am resigned to asking anyone for advice.
Allison comes out next. I have been avoiding her since that night. A little part of me wants to rip her apart right here on the front steps. But that is something I have to deal with on my own. I was with this wolf first. I thought she knew the game, only until I found my mate, but I guess she didn’t. She fell in love with me. “There you are. I have been looking for you.” She comes up to me to put her arms around me. I step as far away from her as I can get. “Baby, what is this? We are free to be together now.”
“Keep your ass away from me. I have no desire to be with you.” I emphasize the word desire. She needs to know I know about the damn spell.
“Baby, we are supposed to be together. It’s not like that girl will want you.” That is crushing. I don’t want to think about Jasmine not wanting me.
“Even if Jasmine never wants to be with me again. I am not going to be with you. Jasmine is my world. You are the dirt under my shoe.” I know that had to hurt her, but right now she is public enemy number one. She needs to move on.
“Like she could give you what I could. I would give you all of me, can you say the same for her?” This bitch is just pissing me off.
“Where do you think I was yesterday?” That got her to shut up. She looks completely shocked. That is definitely not the answer that she was expecting. She probably figured a good girl like Jasmine would never do that with me.
Thankfully she comes out then. I am hoping that Allison keeps her mouth shut. I do not want Jasmine any angrier. I need her to feel for me. I have thirty minutes in that car. She keeps her distance from me. As soon as Carlos arrives she goes for the front seat. He shakes his head at her. “Come on. Really.”
“Sorry, orders are orders.”
“UGH.” She takes a seat in the back. I was waiting to see which side of the car she was going to sit on. Jay lets me slide in the middle, which makes sense. It doesn’t matter what side she sits on, I will be next to her. She looks over at him. “Really Brutus.”
Jay just smiles. “You know right now I feel like him. He was doing what was best for Rome. Caesar was out of his mind.”
“Are you saying I am out of my mind?” She grinds out.
“Absolutely.” He smiles at her. I hate that they are this close, but I am loving that he is helping me out right now.
“I want you to sit in the middle.” She says very sternly.
“I am not getting in the middle of you two. It is not going to happen.” Jay just smiles and ignores her talking. Carlos does too, he just starts driving. There are no moving seats.
I turn to talk to her. “Baby, we need to talk.”
“Now is not the time.” She looks out the window. Clearly trying not to look at me.
“Name another time then.”
“How about never?” She snaps at me.
“Not on the table, there is now, later today. But sometime today would be nice.” I am leaning into her. I hope my presence will weaken her resolve.
“Back up Hunter.” She grinds out.
“Baby, please just talk to me.”
“Back up now or you are going to regret it.” She is growling at me.
I lean in further so that I can whisper in her ear. “I love you baby, talk to me.” Instead of talking to me she slams the heel of her hand into my nose. I hear a crunching sound and pain. It shoots into my eyes. There is blood too. “Baby, what the hell?”
“I told you to back up.” She grins pleased with herself.
Carlos rolls his eyes. “Great, Jasmine, now he is bleeding all over my seats. You couldn’t have waited until he was out of the car.”
I feel the compassion. Jay is stifling laughter, plus holding his nose. Allison is piping up from the front seat. “I thought you said she loved you. I can see the love, it’s all over your face.”
“Shut up.” I mumble out. Carlos throws a bandana at me.
“Try to stop the bleeding.” He calls back. Bravo, don’t even stop the car. Let me bleed the whole way.
Ok, so I didn’t bleed the whole way, but enough. I can see Jay leaning away from me holding his own nose. I am sure the blood smells appealing to him. He’s a vampire trapped in a car with a bleeding person. He is composing himself rather well. Especially for someone who is newly turned.
When we pull into the school, I am still covered in blood. I have to go clean up. Jasmine gets as far away from me as possible. I don’t try to chase her down. I go to the locker room and put on the tank that I use for P. E. I don’t like that you can see my mark in it. Everyone will see that Jasmine’s name is gone. I have to cover it. I know the first aid kit is in the office. I take a minute to collect some gauze and tape. This will have to work. I will just say I got scratched or something. I wash my face and by the time the bell rings I look at least presentable. Here we go. Gotta get through the day. Not that I have a clue how I am going to manage that.
UNKNOWN P. O. V.
“Report.” I glare at the spy. She shifts nervously.
“She didn’t leave her room all day.”
I nod, it is to be expected. Losing a mate is rather hard on a person. “Anything else?”
“The Beta was with her.” I can see her visibly cringe as she says it.
I ball up my fist and punch my desk. I am going to need a new desk after this. “How the fuck did that happen?”
“It would seem that he carried her to her room the night before after she drank too much. Then he never left, until this morning. They were yelling at each other this morning.”
“So, they haven’t renewed the bond?”
“No sir.”
Good, that means I can still make my move. “You are dismissed, keep me informed.”
“Yes sir.” She is quickly gone again.
Time is not on my side it would seem. I know the goddess has a plan. She wouldn’t have me feel this way for her if it wasn’t for a reason.
