Vivian POV
Few hours later, I was discharged but Max’s words was a ringing Bell in my ears, I couldn’t get his voice, that Fierce and determined look on his eyes earlier from my head_ he had meant every word he said.
” Here Vivian, you’re forgetting it already” He called behind me as he handed over the diamond Stoned necklace to me as we strode out of the hospital. From a side glance, I assured Doctor Tim that I was fine as he seemed to have become worked up about my discharge.
We got out of the hospital as Max led me to sit at the back of the car while he got in front and drove off. Now, thinking about it, he hadn’t used any of his guards recently.
“Where are we going to Max?” I asked as he accelerated faster, not sparing me a glance.
“To AGC” His reply came shortly and my heart skipped.
“AGC? You’re joking right” I bemused, disliking the whole idea of everything that has been happening.
“Why? You don’t like it there?” He chuckled, as he instantly took a peek at my horrific face from the rear mirror. I gulped down, feeling the intense contempt of smacking his head heavily but I held in.
What was he getting at? Why was he taking me to AGC? There were other hospitals he could probably do a re-check-in so why? The Norman’s also has good and top ruling health centers? What exactly is wrong with Max? Why did he choose to run a pregnancy check in my father’s hospital knowing fully well that my stepsister worked there as a nurse.
Ohhh, how much I hated him for this decision right now. If he wanted to get back at me, there was so many ways to do that, why would he choose this pattern to humiliate me?
Throughout the drive, we didn’t say a word to each other as it suddenly felt like I had lost the will to talk, Max didn’t either not until we arrived and got out of the car.
Staring at the building alone irked me, reminding me of memories I was trying so hard to forget, memories that gravely terrible and horrifying, Max knew all of that yet he he chose to bring me here.
What had I even been thinking these past few days? I had completely forgotten about who he really is, the betrayal he was; Definitely he wouldn’t have changed overnight right! But I had given myself hope that he was at least making progress, I had felt a little bit elated these few times I spent some moments with him and now, the reality has dawned on me_ I was nothing more than a deal proposed to stay with Max for a month;, I had been overwhelmed and had forgotten that Max was still the same man who didn’t love me.
All these love making was just for us to satisfy our sexual needs and nothing more but the attraction had confused me, flipping my mind over to think that Max had actually gotten a rethink, perhaps we were making progress in the relationship but all of that had just gone down, shattered, once again reminding me of the fact that Max Norman was still who he was, both then and now.
“I didn’t think I would see you here Vivian, isn’t it such a pleasure coming here ?” The sarcastic yet familiar voice of my sister echoed behind us, her small wedge- heels clicking on the floor in a calculated rhythm as she made her way towards us. My palms tightened to a fist as I clenched them to the side, holding the rage that was bubbling from me; hearing her voice alone made me sick, it aroused with a different kind of anger, a murderous intent rising just beneath the surface.
I whirled around to face her, even her steps radiated with mockery as she stuck out a jesting tongue, stopping right before us. Max back was still turned against her but slowly, he turned around as well, the look on his face wasn’t funny making me question whatever was going through his mind.
He should at least, feel the least warm right? After all, my sister has been the one feeding him with details about my entire life, both the bad and good and he had believed all of with a falsified evidence, so why didn’t he seem like he was excited to meet Mary? Wasn’t it his reason for bringing me here apart from the pregnancy test?
” An honour to see you here Mr Max,” Mary said, her smiles bright, her eyes sparkling with a great excitement that was only fixed on Max. One thing was sure about Mary; she has feelings for Max but seeing that my father was against it and due to her desperate craving to amass the shares that didn’t belong to her with her mother, she had only sought out to remove me from the picture first, the maybe, just maybe she could pursue Max after they’ve also taken my father’s shares and leave him bankrupt. This was the very one thing my father was oblivious to, the fact that he’s still blind to Mary and her mother’s deceits.
” I truly do not think it’s an honour to come the Alexander’s shit hole, don’t you think so?” Max retorted with an ounce of annoyance, his expression careless as he rolled his eyes at her.
Mary’s mouth hung open at his words, the weight of his words leaving a frightful impact on her. She had poised and expected a casually- friendly atmosphere with Max but he had shown nothing but smug animosity instead.
Shocked? No! I wasn’t shocked. In fact, Max’s attitude doesn’t surprise me anymore instead I pity those who are eager to get close to him.
“Ummm, I didn’t mean that way Max_ I_ ”
“Mr Max please,” He corrected at once ” I suppose in public, we keep it official, professional and sensible but in private, we’ll keep it even more strictly professional, I hope I’m clear Mary Alexander” Max declared in an intimidating gaze and Mary found herself nodding, completely submissive to his command.
“Let’s go” He said and strode away and I turned and trailed behind him, at this point, my heart might explode at any moment because Max was about to find out about my baby and it definitely wouldn’t be funny!
