Vivian POV
“Sir_”
“I would love you to run a test on my wife, she’s showing signs of pregnancy and I want to confirm” His words rang straight across the, Doctor’s office, shutting the middle aged old man up completely, for a second, he was stunned by Max’s shout out of order and if Max wasn’t someone so powerful, I guess the man would have excused us instead, his eyes Shone fear and submission.
Poor man. What could he possibly do against arrogant Max Norman. But right now, my priority problem was the fact that by crook or by book, somehow, after the tests, Max would definitely know the truth.
Wasn’t it high time I escaped? Wasn’t it time I ran away from this hellhole before I’m exposed? But then, thinking about it alone gave me a feeling of doubt, doubt that etched heavily on my heart for no cause. A part of me was against the idea of leaving, escaping and running away, especially when the one month deal is yet to be expired. Somehow, how I conflicted with my feelings these days leaves me in sheer bafflement. Despite Max’s indifference, there was still this lingering longing to stay by his side but notwithstanding, I am still on my stand to give my baby a free life rather than stuck in a web of Max’s dangerous life.
“Your hand please Ma’am” I didn’t realize when the doctor already stood before me with a gesturing look. I stretched forth my left arm and he carefully pierced in a needle into my veins and took out my blood.
“Results will be ready in two days Sir” He said to Max but he didn’t seem to buy his words, an aura of impatience completely overshadowing his countenance.
Max stood up, his expression contorting with a chilly coldness ” Very well then, I want them sent directly for my confirmation once it’s out, and don’t forget Doctor” Max paused, dreading silence bestowing us ” I heard this hospital is known for their misconduct in contaminating prudence, carelessly causing a lot of misplacement with the files of patient. I guess you should know what I’m talking about?” He asked and the Doctor nodded with evident fright and I was confused.
What does he mean? Confusion gnawed at me.
” Now, if that should happen in my case, be very well aware that I’ll cut off your roots and you’ll never have an existence, do I make myself clear?” He demanded and the Doctor affirmed with a heavy nod. If he continued further, he might actually get a headache from the ceaseless nodding of his head.
“Let’s go” Max said to me as he whirled around and walked out, not sparing a glance if I was actually coming behind him or not.
I instantly rushed to the doctor and held him by the hands ” please Doctor, I would need you to help me with something” I urged fearfully, looking back at time intervals to be sure that Max hadn’t realized I wasn’t following him.
” I don’t think I can help you with anything ma’am, please I do not want to incur the wrath of the Norman’s” He replied as he stood up to leave as well but I grabbed him by his shirt in a desperate stance.
“I’m not asking you for anything Doctor at the moment but can I at least have your number, I could actually reach out to you please?” My eyes sparkled with hope that I wouldn’t be turned down as I prayed fervently he would just give me his number without further arguing and as if fate has granted me that itself, he nodded, dipped his hands in his pockets and brought his card.
“Here, you could reach out to me, that’s my number at the top” He said and instantly strode out. I slid in the card into my dress and ran after Max, my heart out pounded in my chest as I feared that he might already notice that something was actually off, Max had high detecting guts and was very hard to fool.
I ran towards where the car was parked but was surprised to see him leaning on the car door with his hands and legs crossed to each other.
He raised one of his brows in a suspicious manner, his eyes running down my whole body in inspection.
” You stayed back? What were you doing back there?” He inquired, his voice laced with calmness yet I couldn’t mistake that tone of unspeakable anger hidden beneath it.
I shook my head “No_ No, I umm_ I happened to__”
“You now stutter Vivian?” He asked with a baffled look.
My head whooshed, clasping in confusion of what to say ” Not that Max! Damn it!” I cursed, feeling totally frustrated, right now I knew Max was capable of fishing out the truth if I don’t do anything.
“I met someone familiar on the way so I think that delayed me a bit, can we go now?” I finally found the right words to use even though he wouldn’t believe my words.
” You’re terrible at lying Vivian, you know that but this will pass” He replied and walked towards the other side of the car and pulled it open.
“Get in” He ordered and I gently hopped inside the car without saying a word, he slammed it shut and got in through the other side as well, jerked on the steering and sped off.
“Max, you’re going way too fast” I had whined worriedly for the fifth time in the car for over five minutes now but he didn’t seem to be paying any attention to my words instead with each word that came from my mouth, he would accelerate even more faster, throwing me off balance against the seatbelt which would constrict painfully on my stomach.
I was utterly scared at this point, what was wrong with him.
“Tighten your seatbelt harder Vivian, I’m gearing highest this time” His voice shroud out amidst my chaotic fear.
“I can’t, it hurts already, my belly hurts.” I cried out.
“Fucking do it now!” He commanded in a not so funny tone.
TttOo!! The sporadic sound of gunshots rang out and it was only then I realized what was happening and looked back.
Four cars were after us!
