Chapter 126: Kicking Down the Door

She was wearing stiletto heels and had been walking constantly, which was exhausting, especially combined with having to use her brain for work.
Nora… Clara occasionally noticed the fatigue in Nora’s expression.
Nora herself felt it most acutely.
She truly felt… that things weren’t going according to plan.
Although she claimed she had come to the Logan Group to learn real skills, everyone knew what her true purpose was.
She wanted to get close to Ethan.
She had originally thought that since Ethan already had so many secretaries and assistants, her job would be relatively relaxed… and if it was relaxed, she would have plenty of time to seek out Ethan. After all, relationships between people develop through spending time together. With frequent meetings, feelings would gradually develop.
But she hadn’t expected that being Ethan’s secretary would be so exhausting.
Basically, she only saw Ethan during the morning daily work reports.
At other times, seeing Ethan was truly… a matter of chance.
With good luck, she might see Ethan; with bad luck, it was very difficult.
Not seeing Ethan wasn’t even the worst part. What was worse was having to follow Alayna around and learn diligently. If she didn’t study seriously, Alayna would tell Ethan… and what would Ethan think?
So now, Nora truly felt miserable.
Not only did she rarely have the opportunity to see Ethan, but she also had to follow Alayna around and seriously learn about work.
For a pampered young lady, this was truly too difficult.
Even more difficult than going to school.
Around noon, Nora and Alayna finally returned to the office, and when she arrived, she saw Clara and Stephanie leisurely drinking bubble tea.
Instantly, she felt a sense of imbalance.
She and Clara were both Ethan’s secretaries, but what about her?
Every day she was busy with various tasks, while Clara was so idle that she could drink bubble tea.
This was too unfair.
Even if Clara was Ethan’s wife, Ethan shouldn’t be like this.
Precisely because Clara was Ethan’s wife, shouldn’t Ethan hold Clara to higher standards?
By indulging Clara like this, wasn’t he concerned about what others in the company might say?
Clara felt that Nora’s expression didn’t look very good.
Had someone upset Nora?
She was looking at her-was it something she had done?
But she hadn’t done anything.
Except for the morning, she’d had no interaction with Nora. How could she have upset Nora?
“Alayna, what should we eat for lunch?” Stephanie asked Alayna with a smile. The company had a cafeteria, and compared to many cafeterias, the food was quite delicious. But no matter how tasty it was, it was still mass-produced food that couldn’t compare to individually prepared dishes.
Besides, eating at the cafeteria regularly got boring. Occasionally, they wanted to try something different.
Alayna and Stephanie had been colleagues for several years, so naturally, she understood what Stephanie meant. She smiled and said, “I heard there’s a new French restaurant nearby that’s very good. Shall we try it for lunch?”
“Sure,” Stephanie said with a smile.
Hanna said, “Count me in.”
Nora also smiled and said, “I’ll go too. I quite enjoy French cuisine.”
Then Nora asked Clara, “Clara, are you coming?”
Stephanie glanced at Clara and said to Nora with a suggestive smile, “Clara won’t be joining us. Every day at lunch, Clara has a private meal with Mr. Logan in his office.”
It was actually a perfectly normal statement, but for some reason, her face turned red… as if she and Ethan weren’t just eating in the office but doing something inappropriate.
“… Oh.” A flash of awkwardness crossed Nora’s face.
Just then, the phone on Clara’s desk rang.
“Ma’am, Mr. Logan is looking for you again,” Stephanie said with a suggestive wink at Clara.
Clara blushed as she glanced at Stephanie and picked up the phone.
“What would you like for lunch?” Ethan asked.
Clara was about to say anything would be fine, but after glancing at Nora, she deliberately ordered several dishes before hanging up.
Stephanie played the perfect wingwoman, expressing envy from the side. “Mr. Logan is truly a good man. Ma’am, I really envy you… Mr. Logan treats you so well.”
Her expression, which wasn’t good to begin with, now looked even worse.
Clara blushed and didn’t say anything.
She felt that Stephanie’s praise… hit home.
Whether Ethan truly treated her well was no longer important; what mattered was how uncomfortable Nora felt hearing these words.
While she wouldn’t actively target Nora, when it came to her rival in love… she wouldn’t be overly kind either.
“Let’s go,” Stephanie said with a smile. “We’ll go for French cuisine… and let Clara have lunch with Mr. Logan.”
Alayna and Hanna nodded with smiles.
“Let’s go.”
The four secretaries left.
Nora walked at the back and turned at the doorway to look at Clara. The blush hadn’t yet faded from Clara’s face, giving her a shy and blissful appearance.
It made Nora envious.
Nora left.
Clara arrived at Ethan’s office and looked at him.
Ethan was still working.
Clara realized that Ethan was truly very busy, and saying he had countless matters to attend to was no exaggeration.
Clara didn’t disturb Ethan while he was working. She obediently sat on the sofa and played with her phone.
Ethan glanced at Clara.
Sometimes, she truly behaved well.
He knew that his feelings for Clara were the kind a man has for a woman, but when he first married Clara, he had no feelings for her. Gradually, without realizing it, he had developed feelings for her.
Her gentle, compliant, and docile personality made him feel comfortable… he began to have a good impression of her, and then that impression gradually deepened… and moreover, they had become true husband and wife.
Once a man and a woman become intimate, their feelings for each other gradually change.
Familiarity breeds affection… there’s some truth to that.
Clara felt Ethan’s gaze and looked up, staring at him with a slightly puzzled expression… why was he looking at her?
When Ethan saw Clara look up, he lowered his head and continued working.
What did he mean?
When she was playing with her phone, he watched her.
When she looked at him, he returned to work.
What was he thinking?
It was truly puzzling.
Soon, the cafeteria staff brought up their lunch. Ethan and Clara ate.
After eating, they both went for their afternoon rest.
When the secretaries returned to the office after lunch, they didn’t see Clara.
Nora asked, “Where’s Clara?”
Stephanie said, “She’s probably resting in the office rest area.”
This was something she knew-most executive offices had dedicated rest areas.
Clara was resting in Ethan’s rest area?
Nora thought for a moment, then left.
Stephanie pursed her lips. Anyone with half a brain could guess that Nora was heading to the office to find Mr. Logan and his wife.
Hmph!
How shameless.
Mr. Logan and his wife were resting in the rest area-what was she going to do there?
Be a third wheel?
Whatever.
She wouldn’t stop her.
Let her go and see.
Let her see Mr. Logan and his wife lovingly lying in bed, holding each other as they slept… the only one who would feel bad would be her.
If she wanted to make herself miserable, so be it.
Nora arrived outside Ethan’s office door, biting her lip as she looked at it… should she push it open?
She wanted to push it open and take a look.
But… she was also a bit afraid, worried about seeing something she couldn’t accept.
Nora hesitated for quite a while before finally gently pushing the door.
Then… she discovered the office door was locked.
She couldn’t push it open at all.
She had thought of many scenarios, but she hadn’t anticipated that the office door would be locked.
Why had Ethan locked the office door?
Was he afraid someone would disturb him and Clara during their afternoon rest?
Or… was he afraid someone would disturb them while they were doing something else in there?
Nora looked at the red wooden door of the office, her face ashen. She truly… wanted to kick the door open and barge in to see exactly what Ethan and Clara were doing inside.
But that was just a thought… in the end, she didn’t dare.
If she really kicked the door, Ethan would ask why she did it.
How would she answer?
She couldn’t explain her reasons, and Ethan would think she had lost her mind.
Nora bit her lip and glared at the door for a while before reluctantly returning to the secretaries’ office.
When she returned, all three secretaries looked at her.
Nora tried to act as if nothing had happened, returning to her workstation, taking out her work, and pretending to be busy.
