Alayna, Hanna, and Stephanie exchanged a glance… Although Nora hadn’t said anything, judging by her appearance… she had definitely been turned away at the door.
Nora was new and probably didn’t know about Mr. Logan’s daily routine. While work was important, physical health and quality of life were equally important. Mr. Logan took a rest every day at noon, and to avoid being disturbed, his office door was always locked during this time.
They knew Nora would certainly be turned away, but none of them had warned her. What would be the point of warning her?
If they had kindly reminded her, Nora might have thought they were deliberately trying to stop her.
Only by experiencing the rejection firsthand would Nora accept reality.
Although Nora pretended to be working, she couldn’t focus on a single word on her computer screen… Her mind kept thinking about Ethan and Clara, wondering what they were doing in the rest area. Were they simply sleeping and resting, or were they doing something more intimate…
Even though she clearly knew that Ethan and Clara were truly husband and wife in every sense, and even if they were being intimate, it was perfectly normal, but… she was still wildly suspicious.
At 1:40 PM, Ethan woke up precisely on time. Even without setting an alarm, his biological clock, developed over many years of habit, ensured he woke up punctually. Looking at Clara sleeping sweetly beside him, he quirked his lips… she was such a piggy.
Every night she went to sleep earlier than him, and every morning she woke up later.
She was such a sleepyhead.
Ethan didn’t wake Clara. He got out of bed quietly and after quickly tidying himself up, he left.
Clara was still a child, still growing… and growing children needed plenty of sleep.
Only with enough sleep could she grow properly.
Clara slept until 3 PM before finally waking up.
Opening her eyes, she saw she was alone in bed and looked at the time.
It was 3 PM again.
She felt a bit embarrassed. She got up, tidied herself, and quietly opened the door of the rest area and walked out…
Ethan wasn’t in the office.
Clara breathed a sigh of relief. Although it wasn’t the first time she had slept this late, she still felt very shy and embarrassed. Ethan was paying her a salary to come to the Logan Group to work, not to sleep.
Clara quickly left the office and returned to the secretaries’ room.
Everyone was there.
Stephanie looked at Clara and smiled, “Ma’am, did you sleep well?”
Clara nodded with an embarrassed blush. She returned to her workstation under everyone’s gaze.
Nora looked at Clara…
She was truly fortunate.
Fortunate enough to make others jealous.
Nora took out her phone and sent a message to Grace.
Nora: Auntie, let’s have dinner together tonight. It’s been a long time since we’ve eaten together. I miss you.
Grace: Sure, I miss Nora too.
Nora: Then, see you tonight, Auntie. I’ll make a reservation and send you the location later.
Grace: Alright.
Nora put away her phone, a hint of a smile appearing on her face.
After work, Nora left immediately.
She went to meet Grace.
She had made a restaurant reservation.
When she arrived, Grace was already there.
“Grace…” Nora called Grace affectionately.
Grace looked at Nora and smiled, “Nora, you’re looking more beautiful. Sit down…”
Nora sat down, and Grace smiled at her, “Nora, is work tiring?”
Nora hesitated for a moment without saying anything.
Grace paused, then asked, “What’s wrong? Is work very tiring?”
Nora nodded, “Yes… a bit tiring. Every day I have to walk around in high heels, print many documents, deliver many files, and also study…”
It did sound quite tiring.
For ordinary people, it might be acceptable, but Nora had been a pampered young lady all her life, so for her, it was indeed difficult.
Grace frowned and said, “Why doesn’t Ethan arrange an easier job for you?”
Nora smiled and said, “It’s fine. I went to the Logan Group to learn real skills, not to just pass time. Although it’s a bit tiring now, it’s just the beginning and I’m not used to it yet. I’ll gradually get accustomed to it. Being as idle as Clara all day wouldn’t be good for me.”
Grace frowned, “Clara has it easy at the company?”
Nora nodded with a smile, “Yes… she has almost nothing to do all day, just occasionally making tea or brewing coffee for Ethan.”
Grace frowned.
Making tea and brewing coffee were tasks that secretaries did as part of their duties.
Basically, no company would have a secretary specifically responsible for making tea and brewing coffee.
“That’s all she does at the company?” Grace asked.
Nora nodded, “Yes.”
Grace frowned deeply but didn’t speak.
Nora smiled and said, “What would you like to eat? Let’s order.”
“Alright…”
That evening, after dinner, Ethan and Clara returned to their room, freshened up, and got into bed to rest…
Just as they were about to sleep, Ethan’s body pressed down on her.
Clara blushed and said, “Your mother said… we should restrain ourselves.”
Ethan raised an eyebrow, looking at Clara.
Clara felt guilty under his gaze. “It wasn’t me who said it… it was your mother.”
Ethan still didn’t speak.
Was he still insisting?
Clara wasn’t actually refusing Ethan or trying to dampen his enthusiasm, but… since her mother-in-law had said so, if they did it again tonight… and if Grace found out, she would definitely be angry.
Angry that they weren’t taking her words seriously.
Just this morning she had repeatedly emphasized the need for restraint… and then in the evening they went ahead and did it anyway.
Ethan nodded. “OK.”
Clara secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Finally, Ethan had been persuaded.
But before Clara could completely relax, Ethan’s body pressed down on her again.
Clara stared at Ethan with wide, surprised eyes.
Hadn’t he just agreed to show restraint?
“Didn’t… didn’t you say we should exercise restraint?” Clara asked.
Ethan nodded. “Yes… we should show restraint, so… tonight, just once.”
This was restraint?
But… to be fair, compared to the usual two or three times… once was indeed quite restrained.
Clara sighed.
In the end… she couldn’t escape his clutches.
In the morning, Ethan and Clara got up and went downstairs for breakfast…
“Ethan…” Grace asked, “I heard that… Clara just makes tea and brews coffee for you at the company?”
Clara glanced at Grace.
She felt that Grace was going to make an issue of this again.
“Yes.” Ethan nodded calmly.
Grace frowned and said, “What kind of job is that? Making tea and brewing coffee are things secretaries do as part of their duties. Why do you need someone specifically for that?”
“Nora can do it too. Let Clara stop going to the company. From now on, let Nora serve you tea and water.”
Clara didn’t seem happy about this.
Previously, she hadn’t wanted to go to work at Ethan’s company.
But now it was different.
Now that Nora was there… although she trusted that Ethan had no inappropriate thoughts about Nora, she didn’t trust Nora. Everyone knew that Nora had ulterior motives regarding Ethan.
She needed to stay at the company to keep an eye on Nora at all times.
And besides… how could she let Nora make tea and brew coffee for Ethan?
What if Nora put something in the coffee or tea?
Ethan calmly said, “I don’t like what Nora makes.”
Clara secretly looked at Ethan with admiration.
He was so firm.
She liked that.
“… Nora’s tea-making skills are quite good,” Grace said.
Ethan said calmly, “Nora came to the Logan Group to learn real skills, not to serve me tea and water. Having her serve me would be a waste of her talents.”
Grace was momentarily at a loss for how to respond.
“But Clara… doing nothing at the company except serving you tea and water will cause gossip,” Grace said.
Ethan asked, “What kind of gossip?”
“People will say she’s an idle person kept on the payroll. Taking a salary but doing no work,” Grace said.
Forget about others.
Clara herself often thought this way.
Although her salary was only five thousand, she felt guilty even taking that much.
Ethan looked calmly at Grace and asked, “Are there not already enough idle people on the company payroll?”
