Ella’s POV
The fight was rough. I winced as I got a blow to my mouth and my lips split open but I didn’t let go of the bastard I was fighting with. I wouldn’t ever do that.
I didn’t look at my pack mates to wonder how they were doing. I had enough to deal with on my own and I was certain that they weren’t having it easy as well.
Thankfully, the toxin was wearing off from our system and we were able to fight back and hit harder than we had been for the past twenty minutes.
As the rogues had said, the wind had been on our side and we hadn’t inhaled much of the silver. It would have been disastrous if we had.
“Don’t let them win.” I heard the voice of the rogue group leader, his voice weary and panicky as he yelled commands at his men.
He must have sensed that the silver was wearing off and we were getting stronger. I didn’t know who the bastard was fighting with but I hoped that he was getting the beating of his life that he deserved.
It wasn’t Kevin he was fighting with or I would have known. My man was right here beside me, not for once straying far away from where I was.
“Get them.” The rogue leader shouted.
I rolled my eyes, knowing how pathetic his commands were. He must have known that they wouldn’t be able to fight us as hard as they had been earlier.
I knew that the toxin was out of my system and I glanced at Kevin to check how he was doing. He winked at me before turning to the rogue he was fighting with and I allowed a small smile to play on my lips, knowing that the toxin was free from his system as well.
I heard the crunch of a bone as it got broken and the painful scream of a man and I almost jumped for joy. The wolves were all healed and back in action.
“Now.” I heard Kevin yell.
I didn’t need to read his mind to know what he meant and what he wanted us to do. I shifted into a wolf, knowing others were doing the same and gave out a loud roar.
“Retreat!” The rogue group leader yelled to his men and ran off, without waiting to check if they complied or not.
I shook my head at his retreating figure. Rogues had always been cowards and would never cease to be one. How could he call himself a leader when he had no loyalty and concern for his men?
We watched and didn’t shift back until the rogues had all dispersed into the bush they had emerged from, each man running away in different directions.
We didn’t bother to run after them as we didn’t have enough energy for that. We had used up our energy in our bodies to fight off the toxin and the remaining was what we had used to shift to scare off the rogues. We would collapse on the way if we decided to run after them so we decided to respect ourselves and our boundaries and be satisfied with watching their backs and knowing that the fight for today had ended.
A groan from one of the men snapped our attention back to the field and made us turn. I gasped as I shifted back into human form, taking note of the aftermath of the battle.
Five of our men were gravely injured and even though I could tell that the poison was out of their bodies, their bodies were too weak to complete the regeneration process and they were bleeding from their wounds. In that condition, there was no way that they could move an inch from where they were. They couldn’t even make it to a sitting position, much more standing or walking home.
I was sad that we wouldn’t be able to get home tonight as hoped for but I would rather get home later than anticipated than waste the lives of these men.
I rushed to the side of the first person closer to me. “How are you holding up, Loki?”
“I feel like shit.” He groaned, holding his belly and chuckled. He winced at the effort.
I placed a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t sweat it. You will be fine soon.”
“Thank you, doctor.” He grinned. “Isn’t it good that the Luna is both a warrior and a doctor? I feel more secure with my life.” He joked.
I smiled at him and then turned to Liam who was by my side, looking pained. “Get me as much clean clothes as you can find and also bring my medical kits.” I was grateful I had made some first aid potions before leaving the village and setting out on our journey.
“Yes, Luna.” Liam bowed and ran to where my bag was.
Kevin sighed as he got closer to me, looking at the injured men. “I think we should all camp and rest here for a while till everyone is fully healed.” He said.
I nodded and smiled at him. I didn’t doubt for once that he was going to make a decision that was going to favor everyone. He was a good, selfless leader and I had never been so glad that he was mine.
