Kevin’s POV
The next day, when I woke up in the hotel and recalled what happened at the club yesterday, I sighed and rubbed my aching forehead, reluctantly calling Liam.
“Good morning, Alpha.”
“Good morning, and now, come pick me up and take me back to the camp.”
“Alright, but Alpha, there’s something I need to inform you about beforehand.”
“What?” Without even thinking, I could guess that I had beaten up James yesterday, and he would surely go back and tell his father, Elder George.
“Elder George came to the camp to report to Mr. Peter that you had fought his son, and Mr. Peter is very angry now.”
“Alright, I see.” I raised my eyebrows nonchalantly, unsurprised, and hung up the phone.
George was the most ill-tempered of the three elders in our pack. In contrast, Liam’s father, David, was the most gentle. Therefore, they always had disagreements during meetings due to differing viewpoints.
Upon arriving at the camp, I opened the door to my father’s office.
Elder George and Peter’s eyes were focused on me, and I could feel their anger and dissatisfaction. The atmosphere in the meeting room was tense and heavy. George had a fiery temper, and his anger was almost palpable in the air. His son James had been seriously injured by me and was still unconscious, which made him furious.
“Good morning, Elder George.” I lazily sat in the oversized chair, well aware of the predicament I was in, even though I believed his son deserved the beating.
“Alpha Kevin, I’m sure you understand why I’m here.” George raised his voice, “My son hasn’t woken up yet. As the Alpha of the pack, your status is noble, but that doesn’t mean you can act recklessly!”
“Alright, Elder George, I will arrange for the best doctors for your son.” I said indifferently.
Peter remained silent beside him. He was my father and also George’s friend, and I knew he would try to ease the tension.
“The best doctors? Alpha Kevin, we didn’t come here for you to find the best doctors for me. I came here for an explanation.” George gave me a sharp look.
I chuckled with interest. I couldn’t tell him that his son had sent his two companions to seduce me, and I got upset and beat him up. Moreover, I had beaten James at least three times since my adolescence; he should be used to it by now.
“Elder George, do you want me to apologize?” I asked.
George spread his hands triumphantly, “Yes, you must apologize to my son.”
“Okay, I’m sorry about that.” I shrugged indifferently, then looked at my father, “Father, can I leave now?”
“Alpha Kevin, what’s with your attitude?!” George interrupted me, “Is this how you apologize? Even though you’re now an Alpha, you can’t bully werewolves at will!”
“Kevin, your father and I are of similar age. When you were still a little brat, I was leading the werewolves of the Blood Moon clan to fight against outsiders, earning numerous merits and expanding the pack’s territory several times. Don’t forget, you have such an easy life now, partly because of my contributions.”
His accusations were sharp, making my headache even worse.
I glanced at my father, who was silently drinking tea on the side, seemingly detached from the situation. I understood; he just wanted me to handle this on my own.
“George, I understand your past contributions to the pack, but tit for tat. I’ve already apologized as you wanted, what else do you want?”
“I want you to wait until my son wakes up and apologize to him seriously in public.”
I chuckled; this stubborn old man was quite bold. He had indeed earned numerous merits for the pack, but over the past twenty years, their family had embezzled a significant amount of the people’s food, even purchasing weapons, medicine, and other expenses, treating dirt as gold, amounting to billions of dollars. Yet my father turned a blind eye to it all. According to the pack’s rules, their family should have been stripped of their titles long ago.
He wanted me to apologize to his son in front of everyone, just to prove to all the werewolves that I, as Alpha always feared him, the elder, and their family.
“George, I respect you because of your past contributions to the pack, but that doesn’t mean you can push your luck.” I asserted my Alpha authority, staring him down.
Honestly, I was particularly annoyed by his attempts to patronize me. Since becoming Alpha six years ago, he always found ways to trouble me, trying to win over my closest subordinates.
“Liam, bring the documents.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Ten minutes later, Liam handed me a black briefcase. As I flipped through the documents in my hand, I tossed them over to George with interest. These were the evidence of their family’s embezzlement and abuse of power over the past twenty years.
George’s face turned pale just after flipping through the first few pages. “Alpha Kevin, this…”
“You investigated me?”
I crossed my legs, leisurely saying, “Elder George, according to the rules of our pack, how should we deal with such violations from your family?”
“I-I’m sorry, Alpha Kevin,” he immediately knelt down in fear. “Please, forgive me!”
I glanced at him, then at my father, but he said nothing, just sipping his tea. I was speechless, immediately understanding the purpose of my father inviting me to meet George today. He must have long seen through the clandestine dealings of George’s family but, out of their past friendship and George’s past contributions to the pack, refrained from exposing him. Instead, he let his son handle this matter, not only to prevent him from acting unjustly but also to help me establish Alpha authority, a clever scheme indeed.
I admired my father’s tactic and then turned my gaze back to George.
“Do you admit your mistake?”
“Yes, yes. I was foolish to do such a thing.” George anxiously looked at me, then at my father, pleading, “I’m willing to accept any punishment, please don’t strip me of my title or implicate my family!”
I lazily took a sip of tea, enjoying his transformation from arrogance to pleading, not immediately responding to his words.
A few minutes later, George was sweating nervously, still kneeling on the ground.
“Alpha Kevin, I know I’ve offended you many times in the past, but I promise, from now on, I’ll know my place and won’t overstep.”
I took another sip of tea.
“Alright, since you sincerely admit your mistake, considering your past contributions to the pack, if you hand over the embezzled amount, I can overlook the past.” I said.
He hesitated for a moment, then bowed gratefully to me. “Alright, Alpha!”
“Oh, and there’s another document below that you might find interesting,” I reminded George.
“O-okay, Alpha.” As George flipped open the first page of the document, he paused, then quickly browsed through it, his hands trembling.
George stood up straight, lips pursed into a tight line, his face dark.
“Alpha, Peter, I have something urgent to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”
“Alright, goodbye.”
I watched with interest as he left, wondering if this stubborn old man would still favor his son after knowing that his son had slept with his new wife.
