Ella’s POV
Yesterday afternoon, Luke was carried into the laboratory, his right leg had been removed by someone unknown, and he fell into a coma. As the most beloved son of Alpha Oscar, Dr. Helena and our team understood the severity of the situation and immediately performed a limb reattachment surgery on him. Fortunately, after 5 hours, the surgery was successful.
Luke’s leg was saved, and we installed the latest prosthetic for him. Although he can move freely, in the days to come, his walking will be noticeably bumpy, not as agile as a normal person.
It’s lunchtime now, and the officials in the cafeteria are lining up to order. I sit beside the table, chewing on my steak, pondering who could have broken Luke’s leg. Then Kevin’s face floats into my mind, and I feel uneasy. The werewolves of the Blue River Pack all know the affection Alpha Oscar and Luna Willow have for him. No one dares to provoke him, not even Henry, who was bullied, can speak up.
Suddenly, there is a commotion in the crowd, and the werewolves cast strange looks at me. Just as I meet the gaze of one of the she-wolves, she snorts at me coldly, then turns her head to whisper to the she-wolf next to her. All the she-wolves stare at me strangely.
Feeling puzzled, I take a sip of milk and then see Holly running towards me from the counter.
“Anna, I’ve been looking for you everywhere, and here you are,” she says breathlessly.
“What’s happened?” I ask, noticing her nervous expression.
“I just heard something unbelievable. I heard that Alpha Kevin was the one who injured Luke’s leg yesterday. He also killed four of our wolves, and then he tried to take you back to the Blood Moon Pack. Now he’s been detained by Alpha Oscar and Luna,” she explains.
“What?” I furrow my brow. I know Kevin, and he’s definitely not the impulsive type. “Who did you hear this from? Is it reliable?”
Holly sits down beside me, impatiently glaring at the she-wolves who were whispering, “Damn, they’re so noisy. Shut up, bitches.”
The she-wolves are frightened into silence, and then she lowers her voice and says to me, “Anna, Alpha Kevin claims that you don’t belong to the Blue River Pack, but to the Blood Moon Pack. Is that true?”
I pause, feeling bewildered. Seeing my silence, she laughs jokingly, “Haha, it must be a rumor, right? You’re Camila’s granddaughter, Anna Edwards. You’re so gentle and peaceful, nothing like the competitive she-wolves of the Blood Moon Pack.”
“I…” I’m conflicted. Honestly, I’ve come to see Holly as a friend, and I don’t want to lie to her. But I’m afraid that if she knows my true identity, she’ll distance herself from me.
Holly’s smile fades, “Anna?”
“Anna, Mrs. Willow is summoning you to the Alpha camp,” Ava’s voice interrupts us from behind. I look up, and Ava’s gaze is much colder and more unfamiliar than before, which makes me uncomfortable.
“Why is Anna being summoned to the Alpha camp? She’s been working quietly in the laboratory all week and hasn’t caused any trouble,” Holly says.
Ava doesn’t respond to her, urging me impatiently, “Hurry up, don’t waste our time.”
Holly gives Ava a displeased look, and I tug at her sleeve, indicating for her to keep quiet.
“Okay, Ava,” I say as I stand up under Ava’s gaze, and follow her out.
As I take a few steps, Holly quickly catches up with me, “Anna, no matter what your identity is, whether you’re from the Blue River Pack or the Blood Moon Pack, you’re still my friend.”
I’m touched and nod, “Thank you, Holly.”
On the way, I feel complicated. Facing the hostile expressions of Ava and the others, I suspect what Holly said is probably true. My identity as a member of the Blood Moon Pack has been exposed.
I feel angry and disappointed towards Kevin. He clearly knows how much I want to stay in the Blue River Pack, yet he still chose to do this.
Does he really want to force me back to the Blood Moon Pack? At the cost of ruining my life.
Ella, there must be something going on here, you can feel it. Kevin is different from five years ago. He cares about you now; he wouldn’t want to hurt you.
That’s what Lucy says in my mind.
Me: But he did it anyway. He and Alpha Oscar exposed my identity. Now all the werewolves of the Blue River Pack know that I’m not the real Anna.
Ella, pull yourself together. Maybe things aren’t as bad as they seem. Let’s first talk to Kevin and see what he has to say.
Lucy sighs, trying to comfort me.
Twenty minutes later, I pass through a dozen guards and enter Alpha Oscar’s conference room.
Not only Alpha Oscar and Mrs. Willow, but Luke, Beta Aaron, Kevin, and Liam are also present. They all look at me in unison.
I feel immense pressure and my body stiffens.
I walk up to Alpha Oscar and Mrs. Willow, bowing respectfully. Kevin is on my right, his blue eyes staring deeply at me, filled with concern and apology.
I can’t understand his gaze. He’s the one who exposed my identity, so why does he look like that?
“Anna, Alpha Kevin says you’re a wolf from the Blood Moon Pack. What do you have to say about this?” Mrs. Willow asks sharply.
I lower my head, remaining silent.
Obviously, Kevin hasn’t fully disclosed my heritage, my real name.
I know that if I admit it, my life will change drastically, and I’ll be expelled from the Blue River Pack.
After a moment, Mrs. Willow chuckles lightly and addresses Kevin triumphantly, “Alpha Kevin, since Anna hasn’t admitted that she’s from the Blood Moon Pack, it proves that you’re lying. Therefore, you have no right to take her away. Now, leave our pack immediately.”
I raise my head in surprise, and coincidentally meet Kevin’s disappointed eyes. He’s been staring at me all along, as if waiting for my response, leaving the decision to me.
This makes me feel flustered.
“Mate, do you want to come back to the Blood Moon Pack with me?” Kevin asks again, his tone carrying emotions I can’t discern.
Then I notice a blood mark on Kevin’s leg, a scratch from a wolf, and my heart sinks.
Is he injured?
“She doesn’t want to leave with you, Kevin,” Luke interrupts, smiling smugly. “So give it up. Leave our pack now.”
“I didn’t ask you, shut up, you damn bastard!” Kevin suddenly stands up, shouting at Luke.
This startles me. Kevin has never been this out of control before; I feel something is wrong.
“Alpha Kevin, this is the Blue River Pack, and your unruly behavior won’t be tolerated!” Mrs. Willow scolds.
Beta Liam immediately stands behind Kevin in a defensive posture.
Kevin’s eyes almost shoot fire, but he doesn’t make any further moves. My heart pounds; it’s the first time I’ve seen him back down like this.
Kevin looks at me again, “Are you willing to leave with me?”
“I…” I’m conflicted. I don’t know what’s going on between them, so I can only act according to my own will. “I’m Anna Edwards of the Blue River Pack. This is my homeland, and I won’t leave.”
“Okay…” Kevin’s blue eyes darken, seeming hurt.
Then he crushes the teacup in his hand. “Liam, we leave.”
“Okay, Alpha.” Liam frowns, looking thoughtful as he stares at me, seemingly disappointed.
My heart shrinks under their gazes.
I feel sad. What’s going on?
