Whether Rosalind won or lost, Ulric, caught in the middle though, wouldn’t mediate. Everything depended on the evidence.
No one was allowed to interfere with the fairness promised to Rosalind!
He remembers that all Rosalind wanted was justice, for the unjust to be punished. It was a reasonable request.
So Ulric handed over all the evidence and witnesses to her. It was the last thing he could do for Rosalind.
As for everything else, he didn’t want to think about it.
“Murder?”
The word truly shocked Caesar.
Even he, who was usually composed, couldn’t help but stagger back a few steps. “How would your mother…”
“Sirena and Rosalind’s mother have had a long-standing grudge. If she had a chance, she wouldn’t wait this long.”
“I don’t want to believe that either.”
If it wasn’t his mother who did this…
How good would that be?
Ulric bent down and embraced his son and daughter in his arms. “I came this time to fulfill my promise and change their surname.”
“Ulric, you have to save your mother!” Caesar, who had no intention of discussing name changes anymore, stepped forward and looked at his son. “If your mother really goes to prison, she will surely die!”
“She should have thought about this before taking action against Rosalind’s mother, instead of leaving me with this problem.”
Caesar’s face changed. “Are you really going to abandon your mother for Rosalind?”
“She will prove her innocence if she has evidence.”
After he knew the truth, Ulric wanted to come and question his mother.
But the reason he didn’t come was because he could already anticipate what she was going to say.
It would be nothing but denial and sophistry. What was the point of that?
“I’ll ask your mother personally about what exactly happened!” The anger within Caesar was becoming uncontrollable, but he had to control himself and ask his son again, “Ulric, if… your mother really got involved in Sirena’s murder, you won’t abandon her, right?”
“I didn’t have a chance to stop your mother from harming Rosalind’s mother back then, and now I don’t have the authority to interfere with how Rosalind seeks justice.”
“Even if she wronged Rosalind, but… your mother has never mistreated you!”
Ulric suddenly smiled, his thin lips curling up.
“I’m grateful that she gave birth to me and raised me. And I love her and respect her as my mother. But she forced me to marry Sirena just for her peace of mind, which is something I can’t accept.”
The one who owed Sirena a favor was his mother, not him.
Over the years, the Walters family has been accommodating enough towards Sirena, providing her with status, wealth, and power more than enough for her remaining years. But Sirena was never satisfied. She brought this upon herself.
Even though his mother owed Sirena her life, Ulric had already repaid Sirena!
“You’ve been bewitched by Rosalind! You don’t even care about your own mother anymore.”
“Don’t you dare badmouth Mommy!” Jake became unhappy as soon as he heard that and immediately retorted, “Mommy is the best person in the world!”
Floyd also wrinkled her little face and hugged his father’s neck. “Daddy, let’s go! I hate it here!”
Ulric looked at his children and nodded slightly. “Alright, let’s go.”
He said everything he needed to say.
Because of his parents, he lost Rosalind. That punishment was harsh enough.
