And Johnny must inherit from his father’s height.
“Mr. and Mrs. Chow.”
“Is the child asleep?”
Caroline nodded. “Yes, would you like to see her? I can bring her over-”
“Not necessary for now.” Mr. Chow waved his hand with a serious expression. “We heard from Johnny that this child is his.”
“Yes!” Caroline’s eyes showed no sign of evasion or guilt. “Mr. and Mrs. Chow, you can have a paternity test done.”
“That’s why we came.” Mr. Chow had a poor impression of Caroline, so his face showed no sign of friendliness and remained stern. “If the results show the child is indeed Jonhny’s daughter, we’re willing to take the child back to raise and give you a sum of money.”
Caroline was stunned, her already swollen eyes reddening again. “Even if I gave birth to a child for the Chow family, I still can’t marry Johnny?”
“It’s not that I don’t want you to marry into our family. It’s that Johnny doesn’t want to marry you.”
On this point, Mr. Chow couldn’t force the issue.
He could explain the pros and cons, but he couldn’t force his son to marry against his will. What he said earlier was spoken in anger, but seeing his son so firmly refuse to marry, Mr. Chow wouldn’t force him.
After all, what was the point of marrying only to divorce later?
“I knew it…” Caroline lowered her head, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. “If he won’t marry me, so be it. Mr. and Mrs. Chow, I told him about the child not because I want money! This child is my flesh and blood. I won’t let you take her away, and I don’t want your money.”
“Johnny said she has a congenital heart disease?”
“Yes.”
“The Chow family has no history of congenital heart disease.”
Caroline suddenly looked up at Mr. Chow, frowning. “Mr. Chow, I’ve already agreed to do a paternity test. If you still have doubts, then when my daughter wakes up, we can go immediately! She’s just fallen asleep, so please wait a while.”
“My point isn’t to question the child’s bloodline, but to say that if your family has a history of congenital heart disease, you shouldn’t have kept this child in the first place.”
“Although I shouldn’t say this, since it involves the Chow family, I must speak up. Caroline, you claim to love my son but secretly gave birth to a child who might have a genetic heart disease, leading to your current situation. Don’t pretend you don’t want nothing now.”
Caroline bit her lower lip and remained silent. Mrs. Chow also felt her husband’s words were a bit harsh and secretly tugged at his sleeve.
But Mr. Chow was stubborn and disliked beating around the bush. He especially couldn’t stand Caroline’s constant claims of wanting nothing.
“We know very well why you kept this child. You wanted to keep my son by your side, hoping to marry him someday. Am I wrong?”
“Mr. Chow, I love him. Is that wrong?”
“When feelings are mutual, that’s love. What you’re doing is nothing more than selfishness.”
“Alright, enough.” As a woman, Mrs. Chow pitied Caroline whose child was seriously ill, so she interrupted, “Since the child is still sleeping, we’ll come back tomorrow! Or you can give us your phone number, and we’ll coordinate the time for the paternity test in advance.”
Caroline had no objection. She nodded and gave Mrs. Chow her phone number.
Mr. and Mrs. Chow left the hospital without looking at the child.
After getting into the car, Mrs. Chow sighed deeply.
“From Caroline’s demeanor, the child is most likely Johnny’s! Honey, why don’t we visit the Wales family again? I’ll talk to Tilda’s parents. We’ll agree to anything as long as the children don’t break up! Maybe… they will give our son a chance!”
