Callie showed no reaction, just picked up the plane ticket and said calmly, “I have to go.”
“Callie!” Jamir couldn’t hold back, he lowered his voice and roared angrily, his fists clenching and unclenching, “Are you feeling sorry for staying by my side? Do you know how many women want to climb into my bed and become my wife?”
Even he was a bit surprised by his own words, but it was too late to take them back. However, Callie was not angry.
“I know.”
“I didn’t climb into your bed back then, and I won’t in the future.” Callie put the plane ticket into her bag. “Thank you for your help during this time. Without you, my plan wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.”
Since her plan ended, her soul felt empty, and she was like a walking corpse, with no feelings for anyone.
“Callie… that’s not what I meant. I just want you to stay. Don’t you understand? Whether it’s Joaquin or Reuben, I can find a way to help you.”
“But I don’t want to depend on anyone anymore.”
Her eyes were clear and transparent, without any impurities, which made Jamir pause.
“Let me off in front.”
Yusuf didn’t know whose order to follow for a moment. Jamir raised his eyes directly, “Don’t stop.”
“Jamir.” Callie spoke up, “If you don’t stop, I’ll jump out of the car.”
“If you dare to imprison me, I have a thousand ways to kill myself. You can try.”
Her determination to leave stabbed Jamir unexpectedly, making it hard for him to breathe. “Does it have to be this way?”
As the vehicle moved, the scenery outside the window passed by quickly. Callie looked at him, “Actually, you don’t need me as much as you think.”
After getting off the overpass, the car suddenly stopped by the roadside. Callie got out without looking back.
Jamir watched her gradually walk away through the rear-view mirror. She looked so thin and fragile that a gust of wind could break her waist.
Callie, blending into the crowd, was just an ordinary woman. Yet all these years, she had felt especially different to him.
Yusuf couldn’t help but ask, “Why didn’t you keep her?”
Jamir’s head throbbed slightly, “… I can’t keep her anymore.”
The next day, at the airport, Ylosea was the provincial capital, and its airport was crowded with people from countless places every day.
Everyone was in a hurry; each person had their own story.
Callie stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the misty outside as planes took off and landed.
There was still an hour before boarding. Callie held her boarding pass, occasionally looking back, not knowing what she was expecting.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind, “Callie.”
She frowned and turned around with a hint of surprise, only to see an unfamiliar face-a middle-aged man with slicked-back hair and a business suit-walking towards her.
“You are…”
“You might not remember me. My name is Maxwell, your father’s younger brother. You should call me uncle.”
Maxwell… Ahmad’s brother? She indeed should call him uncle.
“You…”
“You really don’t remember me? When you were little, I used to hold you and often took you out to play. Do you remember?”
Callie tried hard to search her memory. There seemed to be such a person, but the memory had faded.
“Do you need something from me?” As she asked this question, she glanced behind him but saw no one else.
