But so much time had passed, and Scarface’s current whereabouts were completely unknown.
Holly said, “I heard Jaquan say to have someone take Reuben out of the country.”
Callie asked Kieran to take her to the police station; she had arranged to meet Malachi.
“We didn’t stop investigating Scarface, but after he arrived in Anbusea, he disappeared. Our colleagues there haven’t been able to find him,” Malachi explained. “However, some time ago, we found a very suspicious person who looks a lot like Scarface. He changed his name and went abroad. We’re still investigating.”
Callie frowned, “Where did he go?”
“Italy.”
Malachi quickly added, “But don’t worry, we’re still investigating. Nothing is confirmed yet.”
“No, Malachi, Holly told me she heard Jaquan say he was going to send Reuben abroad. So that must be Scarface; he took him away!”
Callie said urgently, “Tell me where he went. It’s very important to me.”
Malachi clearly didn’t want to say, as it violated regulations. But seeing Callie so agitated and knowing she couldn’t just fly abroad directly, he reluctantly answered, “The suspected destination is France, but we don’t know which city.”
Going abroad made it even harder to find him.
Callie took a deep breath, not understanding why Jaquan wanted to send Reuben away.
After leaving the police station, Callie was distracted. Kieran was driving while making a phone call, speaking in a low voice, “Is Mr. Oconnor alright?”
Callie slowly came back to her senses and asked after he hung up, “What’s wrong with Nelson?”
Kieran was hesitant, “I’m not supposed to say…”
Callie frowned, “Then don’t say it.”
Kieran couldn’t hold back and quickly said, “There’s an internal issue. The big shots are fighting among themselves. I just hope Mr. Oconnor wins.”
That man seemed like he would never fall.
Callie understood most of it. She pressed her temples and realized it was Monday, the day of the Oconnor Group’s board meeting.
“Take me to Oconnor Group.”
Kieran was momentarily stunned but then brightened up and sped off.
The operations at Oconnor Group were still normal. Under everyone’s gaze, Callie took the elevator all the way to the top floor. The conference room was filled with ten people.
Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, she could see the man in the main seat. He seemed distracted, as if he wasn’t listening to their chatter at all.
“I’ve said it before, Oconnor Group requires steady development. You can’t achieve success overnight. Nelson, you wanted to expand by cooperating with the Ellison family, and what happened? You failed!”
An energetic old man with glasses, Edwin, spoke righteously, “Look at the current market. Oconnor Group is about to collapse. If we don’t change our strategy, we’ll be devoured sooner or later.”
The board members murmured in agreement.
Outside, an employee from the secretary’s office couldn’t help but say, “Fair-weather friends.”
Nelson didn’t speak; he was twirling a pen in his hand, lost in thought.
“Especially your wedding. We thought it would be a joyous occasion, but it turned into a mess. You were too careless!”
“I heard that you knew about it beforehand and did it on purpose. Is that true?”
The board members pressed him step by step.
Nelson finally had to speak, but his tone was weary and indifferent, “Yes, it’s true.”
The room erupted in shock.
“You’re selling out Oconnor Group!”
