Inside, Callie was no longer willing to continue that topic. She approached Holly and said, “Listen, I know there are many things you haven’t explained. But all I want to know where Jaquan has hidden my father Reuben. You know, don’t you?”
Holly listened and smiled faintly. “At this point, do you think I would tell you? I wish you a fate worse than death, Callie.”
Callie frowned, finally losing her composure. “Is making my life miserable your wish? Holly, do you not want to live anymore?”
“If you give me useful information, I can have Nelson let you go.”
“Let me go, and then what? I’ll end up dead by some faction’s hands. It’s safer here, even if I suffer a bit.” Holly taunted, “As far as I know, your limbs are half-crippled. Those few days of heavy rain, you were tied up for two days. Don’t tell me you’re fine.”
At this, Callie couldn’t help but clench her fingers.
Holly had no backing or leverage to threaten her with, leaving Callie at a loss. After a long pause, she calmed down.
“You just don’t want to see me doing well. How about this: you give me the clue, and once I find Reuben, I’ll leave Ylosea and go abroad. I won’t stay with Nelson anymore.”
Holly’s eyes widened in surprise. She didn’t expect Callie to go this far. “You’re crazy. He’s just your adoptive father.”
Is it worth giving up Nelson for him?
“I’m indebted to him for raising me up. I’m willing to do it for him,” Callie said firmly.
Outside the iron door, Nelson heard these words and didn’t take another puff of his cigarette. The ember burned down to his fingertips, snapping him back to reality with a frown.
“But how can I trust you? If I give you the clue, you could still stay here,” Holly said suspiciously.
“As you said, things have developed to this point. I have no feelings for Nelson anymore and won’t in the future. There’s nothing to hold me here. I just want to find Reuben and live quietly.”
The words “no feelings” were light, but only Callie knew they were somewhat insincere.
Holly still didn’t believe her. “You may be willing to do this, but Nelson might not let you go.”
“I don’t want to stay here any longer; he won’t force me to stay.”
Knowing Nelson too well, these words felt like a knife stabbing into his heart.
Anthony called again. “Mr. Oconnor, we can’t wait any longer. Owen is causing trouble in the conference room and is organizing the board to impeach you.”
Nelson closed his eyes.
“How can I trust you?” Holly asked.
Callie thought for a moment. “When I leave, I’ll come to release you. You can watch me board the plane.”
Five minutes later, Callie left the room, only to see Kieran and the bodyguards. Nelson was nowhere in sight, only cigarette butts littering the ground.
She paused. “Where is he?”
“Oconnor Group has an urgent matter; he left first,” Kieran quickly replied, afraid she might misunderstand. “But he’ll be back.”
Callie’s gaze was distant. “He doesn’t need to come back.”
Those were things he should handle. Some people are destined to shine in their own realm, not be held back for her.
Kieran didn’t understand. “Huh?”
He thought everything was resolved and that Callie should be with Nelson. Why were they more estranged from each other?
Before leaving, Holly mentioned she had seen Scarface taking Reuben away once. They went to Anbusea.
So it was Anbusea after all.
