Chapter 1023: Everyone Has Their Fate

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-4-7

“Your former best friend has received five million dollars and is now living a prosperous life with her family. For her, it was worth it.”
“The bald man who helped you kidnap me failed and injured Ahmad. He is now at the sentencing stage, facing multiple charges.”
“As for Jaquan, his whereabouts are still unknown.”
With that, Holly was almost at a dead end. She looked up at the ceiling numbly, seeing her future.
She suddenly said, “You don’t need to be smug, Callie. I have no regrets.”
Callie remained silent, waiting for her next words.
“On the contrary, I am very grateful to Jaquan. If it weren’t for him, I would still be an unwanted orphan, an ordinary person among the masses, struggling for livelihood, looked down upon by others, with no support. He gave me a chance, and I grabbed it desperately. I didn’t hold on tight enough; that’s fate.”
Holly spoke in a low voice, “At least I experienced the life of the wealthy and saw what good men in this world are like. Nelson has always been using me; I knew it but didn’t want to believe it. I preferred to think he had even a shred of genuine affection for me! Even if it was just for the identity of Maevelyn!”
“You haven’t experienced it, have you? Distributing flyers in the cold winter, doing it all day long to earn a living, washing thousands of dishes every day, always having to look at others’ faces whether studying or working. I’ve had enough of those days.”
“You are really lucky.” Tears suddenly flowed from Holly’s dry eyes. “Why do you get all of Nelson’s love so easily and are even the real Maevelyn, the future heiress of the Ellison family? All the good things in this world are given to you. Why? It’s so unfair…”
This person was simply crazy.
Callie looked at her and suddenly sneered, “I used to think we were nothing alike. Now I see we are quite similar.”
“Everything you mentioned, I’ve been through it all. You say you’re an orphan with no support, but at least you didn’t have to experience the hardship of your father being seriously ill in the hospital and not being able to afford medical bills. Washing dishes, distributing flyers, setting up stalls, tutoring part-time-I did all of that. Working several jobs a day, much harder than you.”
“If you had seen me back then, would you still say I’m lucky?”
“As for the Ellison family, I admit I am Maevelyn, but I don’t want to go back to that place.”
Callie looked down at Holly with disdain.
The latter clearly didn’t believe her. She didn’t believe Callie had such experiences. After a moment, she said, “But you have to admit, if it weren’t for Nelson helping you, you wouldn’t have successfully exposed me. You would have been trampled under my feet forever, and no one would have found out.”
Beyond redemption. Even at this point, she regretted not being more meticulous and ruthless.
Callie paused and instinctively glanced at the door. Holly wasn’t wrong; without Nelson’s help, she wouldn’t have succeeded so smoothly. No matter what, he did help her.
Meanwhile, outside the door, Nelson leaned against the wall, finishing his third cigarette. Anthony’s calls came again and again, reminding him that the meeting had started ten minutes ago and that the shareholders were going crazy.
But he kept saying, “Wait a little longer.”
Kieran couldn’t stand it any longer and tried to persuade him, “Callie has us here; she’ll be fine.”
Nelson didn’t say yes or no and continued smoking.
