“So what? The Oconnor Group was built by my father and even my grandfather. Even if I don’t want it, it’s not up to you to criticize.”
Nelson’s gaze swept across the room, his aura finally showing, causing some people to instinctively shut their mouths.
But there were still those who persisted, “You can’t just abandon tens of thousands of employees. This isn’t a joke. You’re being reckless. If your grandpa were still here, he wouldn’t let you act so recklessly!”
Mentioning Nelson’s grandpa made Callie’s heart skip a beat. This was hitting Nelson’s sore spot.
But he just raised an eyebrow and sneered, “If Grandpa were here, even if I dismantled and sold the Oconnor Group, he would support my decision. Who are you to mention my grandfather!”
The sense of pressure in his words silenced everyone; no one dared to speak further.
But the silence only lasted a moment before Edwin stood up again, “Regardless, the current situation of the Oconnor Group needs a solution and a suitable person to take charge. Nelson, you’ve not been in a good state lately. You should take a good rest.”
Nelson looked at him with disdain and said sarcastically, “Edwin, who do you think is more suitable?”
His stern look made the middle-aged Edwin instinctively flinch. Immediately, almost everyone’s gaze fell on a portly man on the opposite side. His eyes gleamed with shrewdness.
“Nelson, you need to allow capable people to take charge. You lack experience. I’ve lived much longer than you. Trust me with this.”
It was Owen.
Instantly, Nelson became the target of everyone’s criticism.
He seemed indifferent, half-supporting his head as he said, “Oh? I heard you’ve gathered 49% of the shares.”
It was as if he were just talking about the weather, with no emotional fluctuation. Everyone exchanged glances.
Callie watched all this and suddenly realized something was wrong. Nelson shouldn’t be reacting this way unless… he didn’t want to be the executor of the Oconnor Group himself.
Owen quickly replied, “Of course, with our shares now equal, I am fully qualified to call for a board vote to impeach you.”
Nelson glanced at everyone, “Is that so? Then let’s begin.”
Callie frowned and walked to the door, trying to push it open. However, it was locked from the inside. She turned back and asked, “What’s going on?”
The staff member looked troubled, “Mr. Oconnor’s orders; it can only be opened from inside.”
The shareholders began raising their hands one after another. Callie was anxious and wanted to get Nelson or Anthony’s attention, but their focus was not outside.
She had no choice but to pull out her phone and call Anthony. Seeing him pause and then look over in surprise, she felt a glimmer of hope.
“Open the door.”
Anthony, already sweating profusely, saw her as a savior. Taking advantage of Nelson’s distraction, he carefully approached and turned the lock. The door immediately opened, and Callie saw Owen stand up and say, “Six to four, Nelson, you lost.”
With equal shares, the shareholders’ vote favored Owen. Nelson indeed lost.
Nelson lazily looked around and saw Bridger also raising his hand. He looked at each person in turn and then nodded, “I lost.”
There was a faint mockery in his tone.
Lost? Callie couldn’t stand hearing that word. She pushed open the door with a bang and said sternly, “I don’t think so!”
Everyone turned to look at her, including Nelson. Seeing her, he showed a hint of surprise and genuine emotion as he stood up directly, “What are you doing here?”
