Skylar went through her stuff one by one. He looked here and there, under the bed, into her closet. After half an hour of searching, he finally lost hope. He stood beside her study table, and his eyes suddenly landed on the drawer underneath it.
He pulled out the drawer out of curiosity and his eyes widened in surprise. “Is this…?” A few minutes later, Skylar left her room carrying the box of games which he had given her previously.
Seeing him walking down the stairs, the maid rushed over to his side. “Uh, do you need help carrying these to your car?” He shook his head, “Thanks for the offer. But, don’t bother yourself. I’m fine. Tell her I have come. That’ll be all.”
“Sure.” He got into the backseat and placed the box beside him. “Start driving,” he commanded to the driver. As the car drove away, the smirk on his lips displayed fully.
“Aileen, no one will be able to stop you from becoming mine now. No one. Look forward to tomorrow. It’s going to be your biggest surprise.”
Aileen’s P. O. V.
I checked the stores I came across one by one, but nothing caught my eye. I went to the mall and on the fifth floor I caught a sight of skating shoes on display with different colors and designs. So, I stopped by without thinking and watched them from a distance. They look cool. But, I have never been skating before. Does Becky know how to use one? “Did you know? Becky was a professional skater during her high school days. If you are thinking of buying one, I think the pink-colored neon blue and white stripes will be her favorite. They look cute,” a voice drew my attention. I looked beside me to see Marshall standing, looking at the skating shoes. When did he get here? How am I supposed to react to him? Wait, calm down. Don’t think too much. It’s not that hard. “Do you think she’ll like them?” I asked, trying my best to avoid his gaze.
He nodded, “Yeah. Most importantly, whatever you give her, she’ll like it. If you are going to give her the shoes, I’ll give her some brand-new art supplies. They’re cool.” “Uh…. I see…. alright then. I’ll go and ask them to wrap it for her”
“Are you avoiding me because you can’t give me an answer yet?” he asked. His question made me stop in my tracks. I didn’t think he would bring it up right away. “I”
“It’s okay, I’m not asking for an answer. I only want you to feel comfortable around me like you used to do before. Cause seeing you avoiding me, hurts me, and I think it would hurt Becky as well. I hope you can do that,” he added, glancing at me. “Are you here on your own? Do you need a ride?” I lowered my gaze, feeling frustrated. “No, it’s okay. I can go back home by myself.”
“I see, alright then. I’m leaving. See you at the birthday party.” “I’ll arrive there early for the preparation and bring cake and other stuff. You take a day off as well and get groceries,” I replied.
He nodded, “Thanks Aileen, for thinking so much about her. I appreciate your help.” “No need to thank me. I’m only doing it because I want to,” I said, looking up at him in the eyes.
He glanced at me and smiled before walking away. I walked over to the counter and asked them to wrap it for me. After making the purchase, I made my way out in a taxi. I didn’t believe I would bump into him like that.
We seem to have similar ideas. Guess, this would make a nice gift. “But, the question still remains,” Kiki, my wolf remarks, “What are you going to answer him? Is it a yes or no?” That’s….. “You aren’t confused. So, say what’s on your mind. You can’t hide the truth forever.”
Everything sounds so simple when you say it. But, is it though? Arriving home, I heard the maid talk about my friend who had come over to get the games. So, was he really here as he said he would? He’s finally ending our friendship like this for real. I wonder how Rosalia would react to this?
“We are home,” I heard mom’s excited voice from behind. “Aileen, where are you?” I saw her entering through the door with her arm wrapped around Dave’s arm. “I’m here,” I replied weakly. They both spotted me and walked over to my side.
“Sweetie, I’ve brought your favorite pistachio cheesecake. Let’s have it together after I’m done changing, alright?” I nodded, “Sure.” “I’m heading upstairs,” Dave said to mom. “Uh, go ahead, I’ll come after you after putting them away in the kitchen.”
He left and mom noticed the bag I was carrying. “Hey, what’s that you have there?”
“Birthday present for Becky, Marshall’s sister. It’s in two days.” “Marshall’s sister? That’s great. By the way,” she leaned closer to my ears, whispering, “How are things between you and Marshall? Did he confess his feelings to you yet? Or are you still” I looked up at her in surprise.
“Were you expecting him to confess to me? You know he liked me?” She pretended to laugh it off. “Eh…. um…you know? The way he looked at you made it obvious. And remember, he even invited you to his house to cook and eat. And he also gave you so many rides whenever you wanted to. Not many men do this out of kindness unless they have any special feelings towards that person. Also, you felt comfortable hanging out with him, so I thought maybe you also felt the same way towards him.”
“I was feeling assured thinking you had finally settled onto someone after Jack. And Marshall is a good guy and Dave’s Beta. So, if you two were to date, it would be great. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice all of this before?” I was at a loss for words. She knew about all this and didn’t bother to tell me? And I’m such an idiot myself. I should’ve taken a clue.
“Aileen?” Mom inquired, patting my head. “Is everything alright?” “I don’t want to talk about this. I’m tired, excuse me,” I said before heading upstairs. Everything was clear right before my eyes, but I….. pretended not to see it. Marshall’s affection and care, it was not just because I’m the Alpha’s daughter. Because he saw me as an object of attraction.
