Aileen
At that time, I couldn’t say anything to him. Cause somewhere within my heart, I knew. Even if I said anything at this time, it wouldn’t go across him.
We arrived home and I went straight to my room and closed the door shut. We didn’t talk for the entire night. I heard mom’s voice around 12 a. m. from downstairs.
The growling on my stomach made me realize I didn’t eat dinner. A few minutes later, I heard a knock on the door.
“Aileen, are you up? You haven’t touched your food yet. Are you feeling unwell?” Mom asked, banging on the door.
Why did I think she would be here?
“Uh, I’m not hun”
“I’ve heated the food. Do you wanna eat together?”
“Yeah, I’m coming,” I yelled, getting up from the bed. Staying hungry won’t solve the problem now.
Mom and I went downstairs thinking that we two will be the only one eating. But, I was wrong. Dave was also at the table sitting.
“Aileen, sit down. I’ll bring the food,” Mom said, letting go of my hand.
I stood far away from him. Seeing me, he lowered his gaze.
I pretended not to see him and went to sit far away. I didn’t expect to see him at this hour. What had he been up to?
“I really don’t understand what you guys were thinking for not eating dinner,” Mom grunted, coming out of the kitchen carrying bowls of food. “Have you looked at the time? It’s past 12. What am I going to do with you two?”
None of us said anything. She heaved a sigh and looked at our faces. “Why aren’t any of you answering me? Why did you skip dinner? Aileen? Dave?”
“I wasn’t feeling hungry,” I replied.
“I was working and didn’t look at the time,” Dave replied. “I’m sorry.”
“What? How can you forget about dinner? Do you not feel hunger? I came back home feeling tired and I’m hungry as well.” She grunted, “And why are you two sitting so far from each other? Are you fighting?”
“No, you are imagining it. Nothing’s going on,” Dave replied, smiling. “Come and sit with me.”
“You come as well,” she said, pointing at me.
“Yes, coming.” I sat beside her and we started eating. I finished eating early and headed upstairs. But, I heard mom laughing and chatting happily with Dave.
I looked back behind me. Mom snuggled onto his arm feeding him food.
It just only left a bitter feeling in my heart. They look so happy together. Am I the one standing between their happiness?
Was it a wrong idea for me to confess my feelings to him? To get attached to him like that physically and emotionally?
I want my mom to be happy, but will I really throw away my own happiness for her? Am I really that kind?
How can all three of us find our happiness together? I don’t understand.
Next day, I left home before Dave. Arriving at college, I searched for Skylar because of the huge commotion we had yesterday. And as expected, everyone was staring at me weirdly.
Maybe, it was a wrong idea to argue with him in public.
I went to class and half an hour later, Skylar came. I got up seeing him, and he avoided his gaze from me and went to sit in the other side of the room.
Did he….. just pretend not to see me? But, why would he do that? Is he angry at me because of yesterday? Should I approach him then?
During lunch hour, I searched for him and saw him sitting by himself.
I reached up to him and said, “Hi.”
Hearing my voice he got up from his seat and turned away to leave. I grabbed onto his hand stopping him from leaving.
“Wait, why are you avoiding me? I’m sorry about yesterday,” I explained.
He removed his hand and replied, “Your father doesn’t seem to like the fact you hang around with me. So, it’s better if you stay away. Or else he might get upset.”
I knew it!
“I’m sorry he acted like that with you. But, trust me I”
“He seems to consider me your mortal enemy. I don’t want to take blame for something I haven’t done. So, don’t approach me again. And I need to get back the games I gave you. When can I go and pick them up from your house so your dad won’t throw them away?” He asked.
“Uh…. um…. you can come today evening if you want to. The maids will be at home.”
“Won’t you go home after college?”
“Uh, no….. I have some stuff to do. I’ll be late. You can go ahead and get them from my room.”
“Hm…okay then. I’ll make sure the Alpha doesn’t see me. Bye.” his back disappeared into the busy crowd of students and I was left there standing.
People around me are leaving. I’m going to be all alone again. I don’t want that. Why did you do this to me, Dave?
————————–End of the P. O. V.—————————–
Meanwhile, Skylar watched her from afar with a sad expression on his face.
“I didn’t want to hurt you like this. But, this is the declaration of my next move. I hope you are looking forward to it.”
After college hours, Aileen decided to go buy something for Becky’s birthday before heading home.
Skylar saw that and headed to her home. Half an hour later, he rang the bell. A maid greeted him opening the door, “Welcome, who are you looking for?”
“Uh, I’m Aileen’s friend. I came over a few days ago and left my games in her room. She told me to go and pick them up from her room today, Can I go inside?”
“Oh, she told you that? Alright then, come inside. I’ll show you to her room.”
“Thank you.” he came inside and the maid brought him upstairs.
“Everything according to plan.”
“Here’s her room. Do you need help tidying up your stuff? Or should I help you?” the maid asked.
“Uh, no thank you. I’ll call you after putting everything in the box.”
“Alright then.” she bowed and left.
He smiled, placing his hand on the doorknob and went inside.
Closing the door behind him, he scanned the room with a smirk on his face.
“If my intuition is right, This is where I’m supposed to find the answers to my question. But, I don’t think it’ll be easy to find. I need to act fast before she arrives home.”
