Dave
That day when we reached home, what frightened me the most was Aileen’s face. I was scared to face her, scared to keep our relationship going cause I didn’t understand what future awaited the three of us.
Thankfully, she was eating so Emilia went to talk with her eventually dragging me along. While they spoke, I could notice that Aileen kept looking in my direction. Probably angry cause I left without a word. But, I did send Marshall to pick her up. Is that not enough to make up for it?
I didn’t bother saying anything and kept a low profile. When I entered my room, I finally felt at peace.
“I’ll wash my face and go to bed,” Emilia said, before heading towards the bathroom.
“Sure.”
I changed my clothes and sat on the edge of the bed and noticed that my phone wasn’t with me. I looked around and recalled that Emilia had kept my phone away from me for the whole day and I didn’t get it back yet.
So, I just went to lie on the bed and pulled the covers over my body, waiting for her to arrive.
A few minutes later, I heard footsteps approaching. Emilia turned off the lights and came to lie down next to me.
“Are you sleeping now?” she asked.
“Uh, not yet,” I replied, turning to face her.
“I had so much fun today. I can’t keep my eyes open,” she grunted.
“Before you go to sleep, can you tell me where you kept my phone?” I asked.
“Your phone? Oh yeah, it’s with me. How could I forget? But, it’s in my purse I guess. Do you need it right now? Or I can give it to you in the morning.”
“Well….”
“It’s already late. Is there an emergency?”
“Emergency? Uh, no. I can get it tomorrow. Let’s sleep now.”
“Alright then, Goodnight,” she smiled, snuggling close to me.
“Goodnight.”
I can only imagine what’s waiting for me tomorrow.
In the morning, I got up early getting ready for work. I spotted Emilia’s purse beside the bedside table.
As she was still sleeping I decided to get back my phone from her. And how good my luck was? The battery was dead and I didn’t even know that?
After putting it on charge I went out of my room and soon arrived in front of Aileen’s room.
I was about to knock but stopped myself from doing that.
I didn’t talk with her at all yesterday. Will she even listen to me?
I stood there for ten minutes contemplating my decision before I finally went downstairs to have breakfast.
A few seconds later, Aileen came and sat down across me. There was no expression on her face and she showed no reaction seeing me as well. And that kind of hurt me. She didn’t even greet me morning even though usually she does that every single day.
Is this what our relationship is going to be like if I choose to keep Emilia as my wife? That sounds kind of cruel.
I cleared my throat, tuning to speak, “Um, Aileen”
“Master, what would you like to have for breakfast? “I was interrupted by the maid. “I made soup, scrambled eggs, and toast as well.”
“Uh…. toast and eggs.”
“Alright, what about you Princess?” she asked Aileen.
“Soup,” she replied blandly, without even looking in my direction.
“Soup it is then. I’ll bring the food right away.”
To distract herself she pulled out her phone and scrolled through, even though it’s not her habit to bring her phone to the table.
Then, why is she doing this? So, she won’t need to have a useless conversation with me?
Have I become that much unbearable for her in just a span of one day?
But, if I give up here we won’t be able to talk for the entire day. I need to do something.
“Aileen, I”
“Good morning family!” Emilia’s voice from the distance interrupted me. She came over to our side with a smile on her face.
“Good morning, Dave,” she greeted, placing soft kisses on my cheeks.
“Uh, good morning.”
“Good morning dear,” Emilia hugged Aileen from behind.
“Morning Mom.”
“Why didn’t you wake me up, Dave?” she pulled out a chair beside me.
“Well…I thought you wanted to sleep more. That’s why I didn’t wake you up. Sorry about it.”
“It’s okay. I hope you didn’t start eating yet?”
“No, not yet,” the maid replied, putting down the bowls on the table. “Good Morning Madam.”
“Good Morning Sara. What’s there for breakfast?”
“I have got a cheese sandwich for you, your favorite.”
“Cheese sandwich? Sara, I love you!”
“Me too, I’ll be right back then you can start eating together.”
“Thanks!”
Emilia carried on the conversation when we started eating. Aileen spoke rarely, and mostly stayed silent.
I need to have a serious talk on the way to college. Things can’t go on like this.
“I’m done. See you in the evening,” Aileen said, standing up.
“Oh, you are done eating already? Have a good day,” Emilia waved at her with a smile.
