SHAWN’S POV
He was trying to return back to work when Rachel sauntered in.
“Hey, Shawn.” She Said.
“Hi, Rachel.” He replied. With the drama from Edna, he prayed Rachel doesn’t start hers.
“Hmmm…a flower and wine? Who brought them?” Rachel asked, touching the gifts on the table.
“A Friend. Why are you here?” He asked matter of factly.
“I came to say hello, of course.”
“Okay. Your hello has been received, can you get back to work?” Shawn asked.
“Before I leave, who was that lady that walked out of your office a few minutes ago?”
Shawn turned to stare at her in surprise, but quickly regained composure. “What lady are you talking about?” He asked, feigning ignorance.
“The lady with ginger coloured hair.” Rachel replied.
“Oh, she is Bryan’s friend. She brought these gifts from Bryan.” Shawn replied.
“Oh, really? Bryan must really be into you to send you a bouquet and wine.” Rachel said.
“Yes, he is. Can you leave now?”
“Fine. I’m leaving now.” She said and walked out.
Shawn exhaled sharply, before returning to work. He had a lot of work to deal other than Edna and Rachel’s problem. He would call Bryan after work and ask him to talk to Edna. She had to know her boundaries and not visit the company again.
Suddenly his phone rang, and on checking the caller ID, he realized it was Bryan. Talk of the devil.
“Hey, man.” Bryan’s bubbling voice sounded on the phone.
“Speak of the devil. I was just thinking of calling you.” Shawn said.
“Whatsup, Man?” Bryan asked.
“There is a problem, man.” Shawn said, raking his fingers through his hair.
“What happened?” Bryan asked.
“The Edna girl is a pain in the ass.” Shawn complained.
“Did you enjoy the night with her?” Bryan asked teasingly.
“Actually, we did not do anything last night.” Shawn said.
Bryan burst into laughter before replying “Are you serious?”
“Yes, I am. Nothing went down.” Shawn replied.
“What the hell, Shawn? You mean you spent the night with a lady as attractive as Edna and nothing went down?” Bryan asked, not convinced.
“Yes. I couldn’t bring myself to sleep with a stranger.” Shawn replied.
“I’m sorry I talked you into it, man. I truly am.” Bryan said sounding remorseful.
“Its all good. I have nothing against you. You did what you thought was best.” Shawn replied.
“So, what did she do?” Bryan asked.
“She came to my office bearing a bouquet and wine.” Shawn explained.
“You are kidding, right?” Bryan asked in surprise.
“No, I’m not. She left a few minutes ago. As we speak, the gifts are on my table glaring at me.” Shawn replied.
“That is bad. How did she get the company’s address?” Bryan asked.
“Through my business card, I guess. She insisted I gave her one before she left this morning.” Shawn replied.
“That is bad. That was not the plan. It was supposed to be a one night stand. I’m sorry, man.” Bryan said, sounding disappointed.
“It’s fine, man. I will handle it.” Shawn said.
“If you need help getting rid of her, you can holla me.” Bryan assured.
“Thank you, Man. I appreciate your efforts. I have to go now.” Shawn said.
“Okay, then. Let’s catch up later.” Bryan said and the line went off.
Shawn stared at the gifts for sometime, then he got up and put them away.
RACHEL’S POV
She walked back to her office seething in anger. That lady didn’t know what she had gotten herself into, and she would deal with her.
She took pictures of the business card Edna gave her and sent it to Max. Almost immediately, his call came in.
“Yo! I saw what you sent. What’s up?” He asked.
“I want every single detail of the owner of that business card. Send it as soon as possible.” Rachel ordered.
“On it.” Max replied and dropped the car.
Edna Garter or whatever she was called, should get prepared for what was coming for her.
A few minutes before she closed from work, Max call came in.
“Do you have the details?” She asked.
“Yes. Her name is Edna Garter. Twenty two years. A beautician but she sleeps around with de creme de la creme. Stays at 25 Crescendo estate. That’s all I could get.” Max said.
“Get more information and I need you to do something for me.” Rachel said, lowering her tone.
“Go on.” Max said.
“I will give you details when I get home.” Rachel said and ended the call.
MAX’S POV
He stood at a corner as he fixed his eyes on the street waiting for her to arrive home. He didn’t have to wait long, because a grey sedan suddenly drove and stopped in front of the gate. She alighted and stood talking to the driver before waving and blowing him kisses as he drove off.
She was about to enter the gate when he hurried towards her.
“Hey, miss. Hold up.” He said and walked up to her.
“Who the fuck are you?” She asked suspiciously.
“How about we talk in my car.” He said pointing towards his car that was parked across the street.
“Have you lost it? Do I know you?” She asked, irritated by his request.
Max raised his shirt, and the bright moonlight casted a dangerous gleam on the pistol fastened away in his trouser holster.
“Wanna talk or not?” He asked, maniacally.
“Sure. I want to talk.” She replied, fear evident in her voice and face.
“Go on, towards that car. I’m right behind you. Any wrong move and you get a bullet in your head. It’s a silencer so no one will hear.” Max said, and she nodded fearfully.
They got to the car, and he forced her inside. He locked the car and turned to face her.
“We are going somewhere. Now, you either decide to follow me willingly or unwilling. It’s entirely up to you.” Max warned.
She nodded in fear, tears already streaming down her cheeks.
“Good girl. Let’s hit the road.” Max said and turned on the ignition.
They drove for some time, then he took out a handkerchief and pretended to use it on himself, all of sudden he turned and placed it over her nose and she went limp.
