Book:Arya's Second Chance Mate Published:2025-3-31

Arya’s POV
I felt a hand on my shoulders and I jumped. I turned swiftly.
“Kelsi!” She burst into laughter.
“What’s up with you? You’ve been jumpy all evening, you okay?” I hissed and walked away. She followed after me.
“Wait up Arya”
“What? I told you not to do those things but you wouldn’t listen” I went on looking away.
Kelsi went quiet. She knew I was already pissed at her. “I’m sorry babe” she muttered.
I turned to her. “Sorry for yourself” I grabbed the drink in her hand and walked away. I could hear her cackle while I moved. I smiled. That babe knew me all too well.
I took a sip of the drink. Turning my head around. I couldn’t find who I was looking for. My heart seemed to be at ease as I drank.
“Come join us Arya” it was one of Kelsi’s friends from the company. He and and some other people were playing ping pong.
I smiled shaking my head. ” I’m good, don’t worry”
I went and sat on a cushion. I heard some rich laughter. I didn’t need anyone to tell me who that was. I stared at her as she danced with reckless Abandon, with a guy I bet she didn’t even know his name. I smiled. There was a distance between us. I could feel it. I couldn’t give it a name biy I coul feel that push.
It wasn’t just because of the issue I had with Chase and she was team Chase. Nah. The worse between us began to grow when I got into a relationship with Chase. Well I spent most of my time with Chase so that reduces talking time with Kelsi.
Then chase moved me to the new apartment. A little away from the palace. He said he wanted some peace. I got to see Kelsi lesser and that aided the. Distance.
Now I look at Kelsi I can’t tell what she’s thinking but she knows me well enough to predict my behavior.
I decide to drown all they thought in alcohol. Maybe it was the lack of alcohol that was making me over analyze everything.
The more I drank, the more uncomfortable I felt. No the fear of the unknown had passed. The beet had little to no impact on me but I wanted it. I wanted to forget how anxipy I was. Who was that behind that mask.
Chase?
Or even Jake.
I just couldn’t keep my mind at ease knowing fully well it could be anybody. And you know that feeling you get. Like the hairs on your back are Stanfield and goose pimples and all. I felt that ad I thought of that masked person looking at me.
From the costume, I got tell it was a guy. But then I didn’t have anything to do with anybody. It was just Chase or Jake.
Chase was on a business trip. Jake. It was like a mission impose to see him here. In this club. For starters this wasn’t his pack.
I gulped down the rest of my drink and stood. I need another drink. Something stronger this time. But I wandered around looking for something strong when I came face to face with the door.
It led to outside. Standing there I felt the cool breeze dall out to me and I just couldn’t resist. I looked back. This party was already boring. And stuffy.
I walked into the balcony, gently closely the door behind me. I felt a leap in my heart when I found no one there. It was all to myself. I was grateful The winds rushed to my side. It left me fresher than I already was.
There was a little seat in front.
I sat on it as I watched the moon, the cars and the hustles of the city of the black moon pack.
I sat there, and I felt the door open but I didn’t want to know who. Someone sat at the other end of the bench
“Care for some champagne?” A deep voice said.
I narrowed my eyes. What was wrong with guys and talking to random girls.
“No” I snapped.
I kept on looking out into the open when I felt someone edge closer. I turned immediately and my heart flew out of my chest.
It was that scary costume that had been staring intently at me. Before I could pass out, he grabbed me.
“Hey Arya it’s me” the mask was taken off and immediately I saw who it was.
“Jake?” He burst into laughter.
“Why were you so scared?” He went on laughing. I hit him in the arm and immediately stood up. Just before I could make the next step, he grabbed my hands.
“I’m sorry Arya, I’ll not laugh again” he said as he made a move like to zip his mouth. I eyes him and looked away.
“Better don’t talk. I don’t want to hear your horrible voice” I mumbled with a frown. He nodded .
His handsome face looked all cute watching him behave like that. I was immediately Catalina to moment I called my best with Jake. When My sister had not yet entered the picture.
I sighed and went to take a seat. He also sat beside me. Together we watched the moon. None of us uttering a word.
I think I have a thing with silence. I really think I do.
“Wher-” Jake began.
“Sssh!” I put a hand on my mouth and he too put a hand on his mouth. It was fun seeing that he was willing to obey.
“Arya-” he said again but one stern look. from me made him shut up.
And so from then on, Jake didn’t say a word.
We just sat there in absolute silence. The weather was perfect. Despite it was the begining of summer, the weather was cold not chilly, but cold.
The exact good kind of cold that contracted the hotness inside. The wind swayed to my side, making me feel cooler. The moon was doing it’s thing. I leaned on the hand of the bench and sleep came and seduces me away.
Someone tapped me.
“Arya come on let’s go home”
I opened my eyes to find Kelsi. But as I stretched I noticed a piece of paper in my hands. I opened it and instantly I knew it was Jake’s handwriting.
He wrote. ‘I’ ll come to you tomorrow. We have a lot to talk about’
A small smile crept on to my lips.
