Alexander pov
“Alexander,” Daniel began, his voice calm but laced with a hint of frustration.
“Let’s just say I understand that you placed a GPS on your son’s clothes because I know that you’re screwed in the head, or the fact that you’re mobilizing dozens of your men in different cars behind us just to go to an amusement park. But what I don’t understand is why you feel the need to drag me along. Frankly, I can’t wrap my head around it, what do I have to do with this?.”
I didn’t reply, my eyes closing as I brushed him off, my fingers drumming faster against the seat as different thoughts clouded my mind at once.
My son was missing again, and this time, he was with that girl Valentina. Had she kidnapped him, or had they been taken together? To be honest, I couldn’t care less about what happened to her . The only thing that mattered to me right now was Felix. I had to find him, no matter what.
Earlier, when Sebastian had barged in to report that Valentina and Felix had gone missing, the first thought that crossed my mind was that Nico was behind this. Maybe Valentina had been pretending all along, and she never lost her memories. Perhaps this had been their plan from the start-an elaborate scheme to get close to me and kidnap Felix.
“Damn it, he’s ignoring me, isn’t he?” Daniel spoke again, his tone exasperated. I could feel his glare boring into me even with my eyes closed.
“Do you know how busy I am? I’m the owner of the best hospital in the country. I have sick patients waiting in line for me to attend to, and now you drag me along. You”
“Dr. Daniel, I think you should calm down,” Sebastian interjected cautiously. “The boss is pretty worried right now since the madam and young master are missing.”
“Calm down? Are you taking his side now?” Daniel snapped.
“N-no, it’s just that…” Sebastian leaned in to whisper, his voice low. “The boss switched the safety off his gun while you were talking, and I’m worried he might shoot you.”
Daniel gasped audibly, his eyes darting to the gun in my hand. Without hesitation, he scooted further away, creating as much distance as he could between us.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner!?” Daniel whispered back.
“I-I tried to, but you wouldn’t listen. You’ve been talking non-stop for the last five minutes,”.
“Well, how could I not when he practically dragged me by the collar and threw me into the car?!” Daniel shot back, his tone defensive.
My eyes snapped open, and both Daniel and Sebastian flinched. Daniel quickly moved away, sensing the shift in the air. I tilted my head, narrowing my gaze at him, my glare sharp.
“Daniel,” I said, stopping the movement of my fingers as I straightened in my seat, my voice low and dangerous. “One more word, and you’ll soon become one of your patients. Do not test me.”
“Understood,” Daniel said, making a zipping motion across his lips as he nodded obediently.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay composed, before turning to Aiden.
“Drive faster. I want to be there in the next five minutes,” I ordered.
“Yes, boss,” Aiden replied with a quick bow before accelerating down the road. The rest of cars followed closely behind, engines roaring in unison.
“Alexander,” Daniel called out, drawing my attention back to him. This time, his usual playful smile was absent, replaced by an expression of seriousness that mirrored my own. “Don’t worry. I’m sure they’re fine. Felix has sneaked out before, and we always found him. We’ll find them.”
I didn’t respond, my gaze fixed ahead, but deep down, I could only hope he was right-that Felix was safe.
Exactly five minutes later, the cars screeched to a halt in front of the amusement park. Before anyone could step forward to open the door for me, I had already pushed it open and stepped out. My hand instinctively moved to check the gun securely tucked at my back before I turned to Aiden to issue my orders.
“No one moves or takes any action unless I give the signal,” I commanded, my voice cold and firm.
“Understood, boss,” Aiden replied with a curt bow before heading over to relay the order to the men behind us.
“Alright, let’s do this! I’m so ready!” Daniel declared as he stepped out of the car. “Sebastian, stay right behind me. Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.”
“P-protect me? Wow, Dr. Daniel…” Sebastian began, but before they could continue their pointless love talk, I strode toward the gates of the amusement park. Eyes immediately turned to me, whispers and murmurs rippling through the crowd, but I barely acknowledged them, my focus fixed on the path ahead.
“Which direction?” I asked. Sebastian, now walking beside me, quickly glanced down at the tablet in his hand, scrolling through the information with practiced speed.
“It says the young master is to the right… hmm… that direction,” he replied, pointing. Without hesitation, I started walking in the indicated direction, the sound of my men’s footsteps echoing behind me. Their stances were alert, ready for anything.
This could very well be an ambush. It wouldn’t be the first time that bastard Nico had tried to play mind games with me. The sick man seemed to thrive on breaking me. After countless failed attempts on my life, he’d resorted to this twisted game of targeting those I cared about.
Emily was proof of that. He had killed her a year ago. Felix had been in the car when the accident happened. Emily used her body as a shield to protect him, but it was too late by the time anyone realized what had occurred. Emily had died, and Felix had been forced to stay beneath her lifeless body for hours until it grew cold.
It was enough to break anyone-not to mention a four-year-old child.
“Are we almost there yet?” Daniel asked, peeking nervously from behind Sebastian, his head just barely visible.
“Yes, it should be right-” Sebastian didn’t get the chance to finish. He bumped into my back, the sound of his glasses hitting the ground echoing faintly. I stood completely still, my eyes fixed on the scene before me, frozen in utter disbelief.
“Why did you stop, Alexander? Is everything-oh my God!” Daniel gasped. I could feel everyone behind me rooted in place, equally stunned.
Felix and Valentina weren’t kidnapped. They were perfectly fine. How did I know this?
Well…
“Let go of my hair, you crazy bitch!”
“No! Not until you let go of me! Ow-stop pulling so hard!”
“Get off me! How dare you slap mine?! My eyes! Mummy, he hit my eyes!”
My eye twitched as I took in the chaotic scene, my grip on the gun loosening with every second.
“Alexander,” Daniel whispered, leaning closer to my ear with a mix of disbelief and amusement. “I don’t think they’re the ones who need saving here.”
