Chapter 131

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason.
Three weeks had passed making Eve’s pregnancy seven months and two days old. I’m counting every day because I can’t wait to meet my child.
Max told me the gender of the baby a few days before his wedding and I was so glad. I mean every child is a blessing and the gender doesn’t matter but it still made me happy nevertheless.
Max and Ethan were currently in Paris for their honeymoon and I bet they’re enjoying every bit of it.
They left two days ago and they’ve not called apart from when they landed. They must be having the time of their lives.
It was Eve’s idea to send them to Paris anyways. Ethan’s idea of a honeymoon was to go to Maldives but Eve said it was too common and what is a better place to go than the land of lovers.
That’s where I was planning our honeymoon to be but since Ethan and Max beat me to it, we’ll have to go to a different place.
“Eve, do you have to go?” Mom asked Eve who was struggling to put on her flip flops because of her protruding belly.
“Yes, what’s more satisfying than seeing your enemy go to jail?” Eve huffed.
Mom looked at me as if she was asking me to say something but I wasn’t even gonna say anything because I know Eve wouldn’t listen to anything I have to say.
It’s like she’s been waiting for this day all along and so I’m not going to say anything so she doesn’t end up going hormonal on me. I really can’t deal with a cranky Eve today.
Mom and grandma Nini said they wouldn’t be going to the trial with us because they don’t want to waste their time on someone like Alice.
Detective Dave called me a few days ago to tell me that Alice’s family chose a lawyer for her. I wonder why they changed their mind?
Up until a few weeks ago, they wanted nothing to do with her or Mark and now they’re trying to get them out? Or let them go with a lower sentence?
What a load of crap.
As we got out of the house and went to the parking lot, Jade was already waiting by the car for us.
“Do you really have to go to trial?” Jade asked Eve the moment he saw her but the look she gave him shut him up immediately. He looked at me for help but I just shrugged in response.
Alice is going to be put behind bars finally, what could she possibly do when her hands are cuffed?
Soon, we were at court and we were seated in the courtroom waiting for the drama to unfold.
Normally, cases like this would take more than a few months to crack even if there’s enough evidence like Alice’s case and I was going to wait until Eve gave birth so everything won’t be packed and all but isn’t it best to just round it up and let her go to the hell she belongs to, instead of wasting more time.
After all, this trial was just plain courtesy, to give Alice the benefit of doubt, a chance to explain herself and for us to honour her pledge of innocence.
Apparently, the lawyer they got is trying to make her go with self defence. I wonder if he graduated from law school at all or he’s just trying to pull a prank because I’m yet to understand what part of self defence it is.
They even chose a jury trial instead of normal court because they’re trying to draw sympathy from the jury. In my opinion, they’re just drawing unnecessary attention to this case.
I mean she tried to kill Eve countless times to defend herself from what?
She pushed that fudge kid, I mean Sophie’s nineteen year old brother slamming his head on a glass table for self defence? When he didn’t even try to hurt her?
And most of all, she almost had me killed and also almost got my legs amputated due to the accident and it’s self defence?
Maybe when the trial starts, I’ll understand what exactly the self defence is here.
After all, all the evidence that was gathered have been presented to the judge and the jury already and I bet they already have a suitable verdict so all these right now was just a chance for her to defend herself from the claims.
Plus, I heard she’s been acting like a fairy since she was detained which is mostly the reason why the case was given a jury trial in the first place.
The courthouse was filled with people, reporters from different agencies. I mean why not?
This could even be a break for some people’s career.
I have been informed that I might be called up to the front to speak up and Eve also but I refused to let Eve testify because she’s pregnant and because I don’t want her to.
I would do the testifying but I highly doubt if that would be necessary because I already have what would end this trial in one blow.
I just hope it works.
The judge finally arrived after a long while and the trial started.
“All rise, Department one of the supreme court is now in session. Judge Andy Griffith presiding, please be seated…..” The Bailiff started and everybody followed.
The Judge then briefly viewed everyone before he said his piece signalling the official start of the trial.
He asked both sides if they were ready for the session before the Bailiff was asked to swear to the jury.
When all the formalities were done, the lawyer on the defendant side was called to hear his piece. Alice’s lawyer that is.
“Your honour, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, under the law, my client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. During this trial, you will come to know the truth: that Alice was just acting on self defence . Alice was threatened by her older brother Mark and the recording submitted cannot prove her crime after all, it was secretly recorded.”
“For the past months, my client has shown no signs of aggressive behaviour. As a woman as delicate as her, it was easy to be fooled by her older brother and she was easily blackmailed. She feared that if she didn’t do as he asked her to do, she would lose her chance to do something right for Mr Coleman whom she had a crush on for many years.”
“She had no ill intention and all the things she said was only because she was threatened, therefore, my client is not guilty of murder…. but of self defence.” The lawyer stated.
A gasp came from the crowd in the room and everyone was surprised including Mark who was also at the trial.
I’m sure he didn’t think that he would be made the prime suspect of all this judging from the look on his face.
Eve gripped my arms tightly and I could tell she was utterly pissed.
How did they manage to flip it all so easily?
