“Should I call the doctor to check on you?” I asked but he held me back.
“Wait, there’s something I want to tell you first.” He said and I raised my brows.
“What’s that?” I asked and he sighed.
“I really didn’t want to tell you this way.” He said and I got even more confused.
“What is it?” I asked again.
“I wanted to tell you this in the most beautiful way ever but it’s now or never.” He said and I sighed heavily.
“Just say what you have to say and stop beating about the bush.” I urged him and he chuckled quietly.
I helped him sit up on the bed by lifting the bed up which was done by pressing a simple button, specks of being a VIP.
“So what is it?” I asked and he smiled.
“I love you.” He said and I smiled.
“I love you.” I said and we both remained silent for a while as we both stared at each other with smiles on our faces until I broke the silence.
“Is that what you wanted to say?” I asked and he laughed.
“Whenever I see you, my heart goes ba dum..” he said, making me laugh.
Who the fuck says ba dum anymore?
“I’m serious.” He said laughing too.
“I know you are, it just sounds very ridiculous.” I said and he smiled.
“Just listen and don’t interrupt.” He said and I nodded in compliance.
“When I first met you, I thought you were too naive.” He began and I listened with rapt attention.
“You were vulnerable and you listened to whatever I told you to do without complaint, you even apologised at a point in time even when you weren’t wrong.”
“I thought you were simply naive but as I got to know you better, I understood that it wasn’t because you were naive but because you were desperate and when one is desperate, they can do anything.”
“But of course by saying you were desperate, I don’t mean in a bad way, what I mean is that you were willing to sacrifice your youth, your own life just to help your family.”
“And I respected that.”
“I don’t know when I started to fall for you but I did and hard.”
“I fell so hard for you but I didn’t realise it on time.”
“And I’m sorry about that.” He said and I smiled.
I didn’t realise tears had been dropping from my eyes this whole time.
“I don’t think I can ever love someone else the way I love you.”
“If I ever go back in time, I’m sure I’ll still fall in love with you.”
“You’re my first Love.”
“You’re my first love because this is my first time falling in love with someone as wonderful as you. And you’ll be my last love because I don’t think I can love anybody else as much as I love you, Eve.” He said and I was already a crying mess.
“Jason..” I whispered quietly but he wasn’t done.
At Least not yet.
“When we went for the first ultrasound and pregnancy check up, when I heard our baby’s heartbeat, I felt as if our baby was talking to me.” He said.
“It was as if our baby was saying, I’m here, I’m alive.” Jason said and smiled.
“And I replied in my heart, I hear you my baby, hi, I’m your dad.”
I wanted to smile but I couldn’t help but cry.
His words were making me so emotional plus pregnancy hormones.
“Eve..” he called my name softly.
“I promised that I’ll try to do well for you and our baby.” He said.
“I’ll be with you every step of the way and I won’t ever let you be lonely.”
“I might not know everything there is to know about being a dad so I’ll probably be flustered and get confused often when the baby is born. I might act like an idiot in many ways but still, it’s our baby and I’m going to do my best to raise it.” He said.
I was speechless and overjoyed, there’s no better way to describe how I feel and neither do I know how to express it.
“I wanted to do this at home but I guess there’s no better time than now.” He said bringing a little box out of his pocket.
“I was going to do some kind of grand proposal at the beach or after we start decorating our kids room but I already promised to propose to you as early as I can.”
“And I swear to never go back on any of my words towards you.” He said and I sniffed.
He opened it and a beautiful ring was lying there.
“Sorry I won’t be able to get down on one kneel.” He said and I smiled.
“It’s all thanks to you that I have a new dream, you changed me into who I am today, I could have wasted my life but you made me into a man and soon you’ll make me a dad, thank you for showing up so suddenly in my life.” Jason said.
“Will you marry me?” He asked with a smile on his face.
“Yes, I’ll marry you.” I said as I nodded and they shared a beautiful kiss together.
“I’ll marry you.” I mumbled after we disengaged from the kiss.
“Eve, I want you to know that you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me and I would never replace you for anything.”
“I’ll make sure that you and treasure never have to suffer for anything in life.” He said and I hugged him.
I was careful enough because of his wounds.
“Don’t ever scare me like this again.” I said and he nodded in response.
“I won’t.” He said and I smiled.
“Now I can brag to Max that I’m getting married too.”
“In your face Max!” I yelled loudly.
“You’re so dramatic,” Jason said laughing and I smiled.
This might not have been the best proposal according to Max.
Especially since we just received news that he might not be able to use his legs properly anymore.
But to me, this is the most amazing proposal ever because his sincere confession touched my heart faster than any grand confession.
I love him and I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with him.
