Eve.
Soon, I was left alone in the room with Jason who was still very much unconscious.
The detective in charge of the case had come to see him but he wasn’t awake yet so she filled Mom and Max on the issue since I was in no position to listen to whatever she had to say.
My eyes were red and sunken but I was still not crying.
No tears had dropped from my eyes yet, I was determined to hold it back.
Is this how Jason felt when I was unconscious?
Helpless and heartbroken?
If this was how he felt when I barely sustained any injuries on my body, how could I possibly explain how I’m feeling especially with this much damage to his beautiful skin.
Oh my dearest Jason.
I got up from where I sat and was about to open the door to check on Max and Mom who were yet to come back into the ward.
Plus, I have no idea where Grandma Nini is either.
The police officer who was addressed as detective Dave was the one who was talking to Max.
I wasn’t planning to eavesdrop but they were right outside the door, how could I not listen to what they were saying.
“We suspect that Alice was the one who tried to kill Mr Coleman.”
“He sent me a recording of him and Alice talking, after listening to it, I called him back to ask a few questions but that’s when I heard that he was involved in this accident.” Detective Dave said to Max who nodded.
“So has Alice been caught?” Max asked and she shook her head.
“We’ll put out an APB and search all the places that are close to where they met, we’ll be sure to find her as soon as possible.” She said and I frowned.
I swear I wasn’t going to butt in but listening to her say all that bullshit was just pissing me off.
My husband was lying unconscious, injured and might probably be unable to walk again due to the incompetence of the police officers in the country and then what? They’ll try to find her?
They’re not supposed to TRY.
They’re supposed to find her.
“What the hell are you saying?” I yelled angrily.
“Eve.” Max said, shocked to see me especially since I’ve been sitting down like a robot since I heard the news and saw Jason in such a state.
“What do you mean you’ll try?” I snapped, ignoring Jason and facing the detective.
“My husband is lying unconscious due to your inability to do your job!” I yelled angrily.
“Why do we pay taxes if we have to do the work of the police by ourselves?”
“You already did a sloppy job in taking care of my own case with Sophie and instead of apprehending a criminal, you want to try?”
“Have you gone senile?” I yelled angrily.
She looked very embarrassed and was unsure of what to say to calm me down.
“Eve!” Max yelled, calling my attention to him.
“The baby.” He said and I sighed.
“Aren’t you listening to what she’s saying?”
“Jason’s unconscious and might not even be able to walk again and that murderer is still roaming around the whole city.”
“What if she has fled?”
“In movies, when criminals can’t run away by taking the plane, they always try to stow away on a ship, what if that’s what she’s doing right now?” I yelled at Max who sighed in response.
“Sorry for her behaviour, pregnancy hormones plus what is currently going on right now must be getting to her.” Max said and I frowned but kept quiet.
“Not at all.”
“She’s right, Mr Coleman is in that state because of the incompetence of the police department and so we’ll make sure to catch that murderer and put her behind bars where she belongs.” Detective Dave said and I smirked.
Better!
You better do your job right!
“If you’ll excuse me.” The detective said before disappearing out of my sight.
“What’s with you?” Max asked and I scoffed.
“Are you asking because you don’t know or what?” I said angrily before going back into the ward to sit by Jason’s bed.
I sighed heavily as I watched his chest heave up and down signifying that he was breathing.
“I told you something bad was going to happen but you didn’t listen to me.”
“Now look!”
“Look at what happened.”
“I almost lost you.”
“How can we not have a day of peace in our lives?”
“Just when everything seems to be getting better, one bad thing happens again and throws us off balance.” I said and the tears I’ve been trying to hold back were already dripping down my face.
“You won’t die.” I mumbled.
“I won’t let you.” I said crying harder now.
“I’m not going to let our unborn child grow up without a father.”
“I’m never going to let our baby experience what it’s like to not have a happy family like I did.”
“So wake up!”
“You have to wake up!”
“You must wake up, Jason.”
“I love you too much to lose you.”
I said as I sobbed very hard using my hands to cover my face.
“Eve.” I heard someone say my name and I raised up my head and removed my hands from my face.
My eyes widened the moment I saw Jason’s eyes were opened.
“Jason..” I called quietly and he managed a smile.
“You’re awake.” I said, giving him a hug amidst the bandages on his body.
“Ouch!” He winced in pain.
“Sorry.” I mumbled laughing.
I’m so glad he’s alive.
“If you laugh and cry at the same time, you’ll get a hairy butt.” He said and I scoffed.
” I don’t care, I’m glad you’re awake.” I said quietly and he smiled.
“I won’t die and I can’t die.”
“I’m superman.” He said and I laughed.
“And I’m supergirl.” I said and he chuckled slightly.
“I’m sorry I scared you.”
“I didn’t think Alice would do this.”
“I guess I trusted her too much.” He said and I sighed.
“Let’s forget about Alice and focus on you.”
“How are you feeling?” I asked and he smiled.
“Like crap.” He said wincing in pain and I chuckled.
Serves him right.
“Good to know.” I said.
“Should I call the doctor?” I asked and he shook his head.
“Wait, there’s something I want to tell you first.” He said and I raised my brows.
“What’s that?” I asked and he sighed.
“I really didn’t want to tell you this way but I really have no choice now.” He said and I got even more confused.
“What is it?” I asked again.
